Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

Perhaps. Hugh, Halle, Patrick and Ian are bonafide box office draws. Famke, James and Kelsey are beloved actors. They lost a LOT when they let that cast go.

But if they had cast actors of similar caliber as the above in the core roles of Xavier, Storm, Jean, Logan, Scott, etc.,. we probably wouldn't have some of these problems. It's a cast of unknowns. That factor, combined with the Singer/Kinberg mess is guaranteed to create a lukewarm response.

Truth is...very few of us even wanted First Class--or that line-up of mutants. So the whole thing was set off on the wrong foot in my opinion.
What money has Halle Berry Patrick Stewart or Sir Ian drawn in the last decade? Halle's show on television could barely stay afloat. Hugh is great, but the man has quite a few bombs attached to him, and his own X-Men franchise was beat by the guy who talks to ants that no one knew before that film. :funny:

Um, incorrect. Halle Berry alone still has more star power with general audiences than Sophie, Tye and Alexandra combined. And don't even get me started on the power of Patrick, Ian and Hugh. They outrank these new kids 10 to 1. Come on now. :whatever:
Sansa Stark got more play then them to the relevant demos. Or do you want to talk about Halle Berry and Extant? :funny:

I'm late to the game and admittedly have not been paying much attention...did this movie do poorly? Has Singer been fired? I thought he was planning to do Dark Phoenix next?

$65 Million opening Matt.

No word on Singer's status. But our resident FOX employee/insider marvelrobbins has posted that "he's gone from x-men films" like multiple times over the last 12 pages. :whatever:

Other than that, you've missed nothing. :oldrazz:

And what it that that they did away with?

They did away with the cast... Cyclops could have been resurrected in some outlandish way. Jackman was obviously willing to do more. They could have done X4 and X5 back in 2011. That could have been the "makeup" for TLS.

Weapons X and Wolverine's back story is lost. Now we are left to pontificate how it might have happened. Maybe they will explain some stuff in Wolverine 3 to give us a better handle of it.

They did away Magneto's fate as a broken, powerless man who may or may not have regained his powers. I thought his arc ended nicely in TLS. They did not have to redo it with an entirely new one.

They did away with OT Angel, who could have been expanded upon with a talented actor like Ben Foster in X-4. Now that character may never appear again.

Beast? No consistency with Hoult and Grammer. That's not Ratner's or Zack Penn's fault. Grammer's Beast was among the best adapted, second only to Stewart/Xavier.

We can't go back in time. FC as conceived in 2011, while a highly enjoyable film, took the franchise in the wrong direction.

Michael and James were not unknowns when First Class was released though. James alone was in commercial and critical acclaimed movies.

Fassbender certainly could be considered a pretty big A lister, alot of his films haven't done great but neither have alot of hugh jackmans, but fassbenders name is still good enough to sell a movie like assassins creed, or at least the studios have faith in that, and it seems like he is also the only actor to be coming back as a draw for the Prometheus sequel.

Halle carried two seasons of Extant as the headlining actress of the series with Steven Spielberg. And she's working on 3 new films as I type this. She's fine.

Not taking away anything from Sophie--I adore her and am excited to see more of her. And I hate Halle Berry's take on Storm. But I'm not stupid. If you put Sophie's name alongside Halle Berry's in front of general audiences it's a no-brainer as to who is the A-lister actress--and bigger box office star. Halle Berry wins hands down. That may not be saying much...but it's more than what Sophie, Tye or Alexandra can say at the moment.

The X-Men have to look like The X-Men from comics and have actual dialogue and use team work and establish relationships from the cannon a e give fans a reason to care. And have better fight choreography.

That doesn't mean MCU clone.

Get rid of Singer because the internet hates him
Get rid of Kinberg because the internet hates him
Get rid of Lawrence because the internet hates her
Get José to make the comic accurate costumes

Let's start building up good will

that what the internet wants MCU clones.

Fox didn't pull Kinberg back after FF bombed and they won't now.You will get your wish on singer.and they already made transion to more colorful costumes and that will continue.

Thanks for the update! 65 million? Damn. That is one of the lower X-Men movies, right? I just Googled it...half of what Deadpool opened to!? How is that even possible? 30 million less than DOFP. 10 million ahead of The Wolverine and First Class, but the franchise was pretty toxic at that point. Wow...considering how much hype Fox put into this one...no wonder why Singer is out.

Singer is not out. Not officially anyway.

Hey i watched extant... just no one else did... *cough*

Hey, I loved Extant. Halle Berry was great in it and it's great to see an actress over 40 getting that kind of work still--many actresses complain about a double standard when compared to male actors who hit 40 or 50 and get bigger roles as they age.

But I didn't like her as Storm. I DO like Alexandra as Storm however, so see--Bryan Singer did something right in casting her (even if everything else is so wrong).:whatever:

I take the entire Extant series over this

Singer isn't officially out, marvelrobbins just keeps firing him on this thread.

I'm not sure that this matters much with a 65 million weekend. Days of Future Past pulled in 120 million on Memorial Day weekend, only about 20 million of which was earned on the Monday. Same with X3 (in 2006). So lets assume this does pull in about 20 million tomorrow. That is still only about 85 million. Pretty weak opening for a huge franchise tentpole on a holiday weekend.

I will say again but the only new thing is Singer is maybe out to direct the next movie. Although, he wants a break so it could be the plan too. I don't think Lawrence want to comeback and you have colorful costumes. So thing are already in place. Kinberg will stay producer because he is in everything in the x men universe lol.

And what happened to that show? The one on CBS that was pulling in less then 5m viewers in its last season. Less then Game of Thrones, on HBO. AKA as the most pirated show of all time.

Halle Berry honestly hasn't been relevant in a long time. That is what Extant showed.

Halle Berry and Sophie Turner have about the same effect on box office. That is the entire point. You can say Halle Berry is a bigger "star" but it is irrelevant as it has no effect on the the box office. It is the same for Hugh, Sir Ian and Sir Patrick. Great actors, have little to zero drawing power. Few actors are draws on their own now. Leo and Scajo. And they have the films to prove it. Non-brand built successes over the last 5 years. Not even Chris Pratt and his recent success shows he is a draw, because he is tied to big brands.

Ah, I see. Well, it does admittedly seem likely with these numbers. But I digress...
