Because GOG and Deadpool are new characters, but in X-men are new teen versions.
The people are tired,versions,prequels,reboots..,the people wants new things or original versions. This is the answer.

The general audience doesn't give a damn about the original cast coming back other than Hugh Jackman. These are iconic characters that can be played by any actor and the audience will go see it as long as the writing, acting and characterizations are on point.

It's time to move on - let the newer, young cast breath some much needed life into this franchise from here instead of moving backwards. Move on, drop Singer and get a new creative team for the next movie.

I'd welcome the original cast back... but if Jackman is determined to leave, then it's game over for all of them.

Had X3 just been a bigger better sequel not doing anything controversial it would have left the way open for a huge X4.
I doubt there was ever a thought about an X4 anyway

In a very loose sense, I do suspect they wanted a story about a political debate in regard to registration, er excuse me, the "accords," which is a big part of the plot of the first X-Men movie. I suspect they saw how Singer always broke it down to a personal conflict between Charles and Erik.

With that said, I do not think they actually emulated his style or approach at all with Civil War. They were more obviously copying the Jason Bourne movies for some of the action scenes and were kind of riffing on doing their own version of the Seven ending with "what's on the tape?" instead of "what's on the box?" and Tony going the full Brad Pitt in that moment.

Anyway, this is all ironic since Singer made a much more Marvel Studios like X-Men movie the same year. Something I think that Fox should reconsider doing, especially if Singer is directing.

Still, I do think the small stakes and intimacy of Civil War does, ironically, resemble the third act of Singer movies like Days of Future Past, so intentional or not, it is closer to that.

It is sort of funny how the two franchises almost switched MO this year.

But if CW was anything like an X-men movie, then fans would be calling it terrible because Spider-Man wasn't the focus, She Hulk and Clone Thor weren't in it. No thunderbolts and it wasn't a two part movie that lead to the death of Captain America - you know, why can't the Russo brothers respect the source material?

I'm pretty sure the original plan (with Singer attached) was to do X3 AND X4 at the same time.

I'm not sure if the cure storyline was apart of this.
Still would've mostly been prequels. OT cast was too expensive and Fox wasn't feeling so good about that even before box office results.

Looks like China had a decent hold on Tue, adding another $6 mil. The real test is how bad Warcraft hurts it.

If the holds stay decent, you think they would take screens from other movies for Warcraft and leave X-Men's alone?

This is not the year of disappointing sequels guys. Remember 2007? You had Shrek 3, Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

#XMenApocalypse earned an estimated ¥43M ($5.67M) on Tuesday
Total: $71.6M in 5 days

if singer would have stayed we likely would have gotten a 2 part phoenix storyline film.the cure was added after he left under rothman's micromanaging.

It sounds like it will lose about half its screens. If it can hold steady and avoid BvS's drops (77% from first to second weekend), I think we will be okay to clear $100 mil. Warcraft is just sounding massive though, I've seen comparisons to Furious 7 and The Mermaid thrown around.

All of those movies still made $800+ at the worldwide box office though. (Shrek 3 is right on the line at $799). Apocalypse and most of the other sequels this year other than Civil War aren't even going to do that.

Looks like the first one did a total of $62 mil there. Not sure when or if the second will be released there.

So Apocalypse will be out of theaters by then.

As in they expected to stop after X3 or always intended to go into the past? It was all just rumours of course but at the time there was a recurring one about X3 and X4 being filmed concurrently. Which of course didn't happen at all but that kind of ambition (in whatever form) is what the franchise needed at that key time capitalising on a great reception to X2. Instead I think a chunk of the GA just gave up on the series after X3 and missed out on the likes of Fassbender and McAvoy even if they would have liked them.

So for China, XM:A biggest issue that we can see right now is WoW.

X-Men 3 was a huge success at the box office until today. If you look to the box office for x-men universe movies.

Domestic box office X3 rank at number 2 losing only to Deadpool.
Worldwide box office X3 rank at number 3 losing to Deadpool in 1 and DOFP in 2.

Shed a tear for what X4 could have been.

The young, at the time, cast would have taken over.
The old ones would be mentoring. Storm in charge of the school with Beast popping in from time to time.
Wolverine would obviously be mia.
The "cure" is apparently temporary. Maybe throw in a plot point in which it somehow enhanced them.

Just because it was a hit at the box office doesn't mean it didn't hurt the franchise overall. It was a massive step down in quality from the previous film and the audience reception after that showed it. That coupled with the absolutely awful Origins, which was also a success at the BO, completely turned people off and the franchise was stuck for years. This isn't a franchise like Transformers or Pirates where it'll do big numbers no matter the quality of the film. These films need to continually produce good storytelling and characterizations in order to be successful.

The progression from First Class >> DOFP >> and now Apocalypse is proof of that. A bad movie in this franchise can completely ruin any momentum they've built up. Thankfully, they aren't in as dire straits as they were back during the X3/Origins days since they have Deadpool and other potential spinoffs planned.

They'd somehow reveal that Cyclops didn't die case we never saw his body in X3.

Jean would become the White Phoenix and return.

Xavier was already revealed to be alive by the end of X3.

We saw what happened to Wolverine after the events of X3 in his movie The Wolverine.
