Yes they've finally added some females after 16 years.

Finally?

X1 had 4
X2 had 5
X3 had 7 (8 if you count the Dr Lady)
FC had 4
DOFP had 4 (5 if you count Rogue)

Fact is X-Men has had the most female character representation than any other CBM franchise.

They may not all be depicted the way you like but they're there

The ones in FC all had to strip

True but I don't think I'd count Mystique as stripping, sure she's nude but that's so she can morph

X-men could certainly do better in representing its female characters. Mystique has been a refreshing shake up to the male characters that dominate the story and promotion. But it's certainly not enough when they have had Jean, Storm, Psylocke, Rogue, etc in their arsenal. I get that these characters have been more or less central at times, but they really are the periphery in comparison to Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto, and the various male villains (Shaw, Stryker).

That's a good point. The central storylines typically revolve around the men; Mystique being the exception, although she does get stuck between Xavier and Magneto, philosophically speaking. Jean had some nice screen time but mostly as a romantic point in a triangle. Rogue was the damsel in distress, but she was still important to the plot.

I think FC was the worst for the females--they were more like Bond girls, and as someone who's not a big fan of Bond (like Vaughn is), that got a little over-the-top after awhile.

That being said, X-men has always been better representing female characters than most other comic book movies. And while Mystique has become the only female to really keep up with the male counterparts for central plot lines, it's still nice to see more than one woman per every four men in a comic book movie, and to see different types of females as well.

So...X-men actually does an above average job, IMO. But there's always room to grow.

I liked it that Caleb was dorky and not another Hollywood pretty boy. Yes, it's great to have hunks and hotties in these films, but a bit more variety would be good too. At the moment, they are putting in less 'pretty' characters but they are all blue... We have four blue people in Apocalypse... First Class at least had a red one with Azazel...

I thought Caleb was cute personally. It is a lot of blue though but one of favs are here again so I'm happy.

Just think... he could have been given his green/yellow costume now if still around... :'(

So apparently Jean had nothing to do with one of the the central stories in X3 or Rogue in the first xmen film.

Its only a matter of time before people start complaining about too much Jean and Storm. They are already doing that with Mystique.

I dont think thats a thing... considering thats what people expect... they're 2 of the leading x-women. Sure should they share time with psylocke, rogue, kitty and emma (if the fates ever allowed us to see them on screen together) if the series continues with them... but mystique (and magneto for that matter) are not characters that "SHOULD" be in every film... unlike jean and storm

Excluding Wolverine.. the Women are more popular then the men, are in abundance and more powerful. The X-Men comics are a goldmine for female characters. Most will not choose a roster of Nightcrawler, Gambit, Cyclops, Beast, Havok, Angel, Colossus and Iceman over Storm, Magik, Polaris, Rogue, X-23, Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, Psylocke, Rachel Summers, Jubilee and Jean Grey. Even with X-Force and New Mutants there's an abundance of excellent female characters.

Women in the next 5 years are gonna start standing out much more in comic films. Which is why it's important for X-Men to develop them more, not kill off or leave them just as VFX. As soon as we know it Wonder Woman and MS Marvel will be out. Wasp is now in the title of an IP and when DC gets its **** together hopefully an all female team ala Birds Of Prey.

Fox had wanted Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost films. So I wouldn't be shocked if there were a few female IP's in development over there. Especially given everyone else is making them now.

But still would probably act like a secondary character and the only reason they did that was because they felt sorry for pushing back Captain Marvel...................again.

I'm not getting into that. Maybe, maybe not. I'll call bs there when I see it. But those films are happening.

Point being X-Men has the advantage as Joss Whedon pointed out. Don't waste it, or wait for the other studio.

This what I was trying to say the X-Women > X-Men (Especially now that Wolverine is done).

FoX should take advantage of it. I mean Storm isn't even called Ororo in the movies it's ridiculous

Fair enough, but people have already complained about too much Wolverine (original trilogy) and Xavier (First Class films). The same will happen with Scott, Jean and Storm. Its going to be a never ending cycle of complaining.

Agreed.

To be fair she's rarely called Ororo in the X-books either. Also she's called Ororo in the first X-men film when she's introduced to Logan. Ororo just does not fall off the tongue as good as Storm.

Right now I feel the only woman they would give a solo film to is Mystique. I'm thinking with Apocalypse this is a new direction for them and there shaking somethings up so I'm excited. If it's a good reaction to the stars in the upcoming film I can see them branching out some female XMen as solo films. It's just a chance I'm not sure they are willing to take.

^concpiracy theory much?

They pushed back Captain Marvel FOR ant-man and the wasp...

Which they felt they needed to get out before infinity war part 2... which in all honesty... they did need to do.

I would be all for that if it means she takes a sabbatical from the films. I seriously thought she would go her own way at the end of this movie :csad:

The same will happen for any character whose constantly in the focus while others take the back seat... wolverine is another bad example because of the fact he was made the main character in nearly all the films, including treatment as if he was the team leader....

Thats why people complain. . You have to balance, flesh out characters, and not let people lead who shouldnt..
