To be honest, the Sentinels weren't done complete justice in Days of Future Past (we didn't even get Wolverine successfully taking one out!). Now, should they be the main threat of a film again? No. That would be too much of a re-tread. But really, Sentinels need to become a semi-frequent presence in the films as they are in the comics. It would be great if the program was reactivated on a limited basis so every once in a while, the X-Men end up having to deal with them. Keep them in the '70s DOFP style. No need to make them any bigger or deadlier than that. Although it would be nice to hear a "Halt, Mutant" in the TAS style every once in a while.

Madelyne Pryor only would have worked in a theoretical X-Men 4, coming in after Jean was dead, to play hell with the lives of Wolverine and Cyclops (though Cyc died). Doing her when Jean is alive and well doesn't work, and to be honest, it would play better if she just greatly resembled Jean instead of being a straight-up clone.

But I think "Inferno" works if it's another woman in the role. She can be attached to one of the other X-Men, doesn't necessarily have to be Scott, since Madelyne was not a mutant and only was important because she was Cyclops' wife (due to being a wannabe Jean). But it would work best to first establish Illyana and her experiences in dark magic first.

Though, as much as I'm sure the general audience would buy galactic X-Men if you played it right, I don't know about them accepting demonic X-Men. That just seems like a weird stretch for the GA to buy into.

Holy crap that's Sinister.
Angel Salvadore was an actual XMen during Morrisons run a rather vulgar character as well who got pregnant by Beak and had half bird children. In the comics she was disturbing to me.so I don't think this is true as a nod to the other Angel there two different characters.
Morrison created Angel and bunch of other characters to make the X-men weird and alternative again. Mutants are supposed to be unsettling and scary, yet the main X-men are basically supermodels, which makes it seem like only the pretty ones become X-men. First Class completely missed the point of the character (as it did with a number of things).

i honestly don't see it.. the only role i've liked wes in was in American Beauty... in both Ghostrider and American Horror story.. he over-acted imo... i can't take the guy seriously anymore.. and he's never felt "threatening" i just don't think he has the right gravitas to pull off sinister. Honestly I'd love Hiddleston. But Id be surprised if he was available to do Loki and Sinister.
Really?

I agree, I know it's not liked by many fans but I dug that run. Though I don't think audiences would have been ready for the Angel Salvador and Beak romance.

They delved in with that kind of relationship and themes with Mystique and Beast a bit though and I did like that Havok gave Hank a difficult time. The student interaction was never really diverse or dealing with the way people looked before in the films.

That's exactly why I love them :oldrazz: Great run.

Doesn't Fox own the rights to Kang the Conquerer? I think James Gunn said they did. I wonder if Fox could use him in an X-Men film. He could be the one that Cable travels in time for rather than Apocalypse. Would be an interesting way to create a crossover.

Wes Bentley does look good as Sinister now that you mention it. I always thought Clive Owen would be good.

Wes is working on FX which is under Fox so that's a good chance but Fox like to get really top notch actors for their villains. Either critical acclaim or very well known. Let's face it Ian McKellan, Brian Cox, Kevin Bacon, Peter Dinklage, Michael Fassbender and now Oscar Isaac. That's quite an impressive list of actors and I don't think Wes has the known factor that will draw people in.

Wow! It's really remarkable when you put all those names in a list like that.

I agree actually. Even though he looks the part, I have never been inspired by his acting. In ghost rider he didn't seem threatening at all.

Just give it to Pitt. He looks enough the part and is 10 times the actor. For those OK with Oscar playing Apocalypse, you should also be OK with Pitt. Pitt is an even better actor.

If apocalypse breaks records ... I'm sure Fox will have Singer (or replaced director) to work on the next movie ASAP. Also great choice for Sinister ( Wes Bently ) a movie with Sinister means the focus will go to Jean and Scott <3

I can only judge based on Bentley's performance in American Horror Story, but Bentley seems to be a little stiff. That could just be the nature of the role he's playing, but even when he gets to cut loose as a villain, he doesn't really convince.

I think whoever plays Mr. Sinister needs to strike the right balance between malevolence and gleeful camp and that is tricky to pull off.

Do you think Apocalypse will change his size a lot? Will we see him as a giant taking hits and shrugging everything off?

Re: Cranston as Sinister

I don't see why he'd be so great. Visually he does nothing for me in that role. I'd prefer someone with more of a haunting look about them and smaller features like Cillian Murphy or other actors more likely to be cast as a vampire like Jonathan Rhys Meyers or Luke Evans. I feel they have the weird yet strangely sexual overtones the character needs.

Cillian Murphy would be great.

I do think they should take some time before doing Sinister. Another villain with modulated voice and crazy make up. It would be too soon.

Hahahahaha I know right.
Btw I can tell by your av that you're a huge Katya fan. Are you watching the new season of drag race?

As for Bryan or his replacement I don't want to think about it right now. I feel like they have enough going for them in terms of the X-Men franchise with Deadpool, Gambit, X-Force and New Mutants that maybe they can take a break from X-Men until Singer is ready to do the next one. But if indeed he won't direct Bryan will still be heavily involved with story, production, casting etc so I know it's still in good hands. I'd love if Matthew came back or there are some really top notch directors out there who could be fantastic. Even Tim Miller would be great. But I'd like him to focus on Deadpool and X-Force. I just want Fox to think hard about the direction and keeping this universe interesting, unique, different but also cohesive.

Proteus can wait till Singer returns. Need to snap up Cranston for Sinister, though. (Thankfully, didn't end up as Lex)
Grandpa Sinister, no thx. Also he looks nothing like Essex.

Soemone in Fassy age for Sinister. Like Luke Evans, he has Essex look, closer than any examples in this thread:

Wes Bently got the look for Mr. Sinister but of course its not just all about the looks.

Felix Lariviere really stepped up his wig game in comparison to whatever the hell that mess was with DoFP.

James McAvoy. He may not be an Oscar nomine, but he's a three-time Olivier (UK theater) nomine.

I most certainly agree with you but the list of actors I wrote up have just been villains and the caliber of actors in villain roles in the franchise is incredible but don't worry we have some incredible actors on the good side too. I mean James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Nicholas Hoult, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming etc all amazing talents. We've been blessed with fantastic actors in this series.

I don't think he looks the part, but his star power alone would sell the film.

Are you kidding? Why was Mystique, Havok, Banshee or Darwin there? You act as if she was the only departure from the original X-Men team when virtually no one was there except for Beast and the Proffesor.

Mystique's the only real anomaly because they made her Xavier's 'sister.'

Havok is from the 60s X-Men (introduced in X-Men 54 in 1969), Darwin is from the secret team of X-Men (revealed in Deadly Genesis as having been sent to Krakoa after the original team vanished there and before the Second Genesis team were recruited). Banshee's also one of the earlier mutants (he was first introduced in X-Men 28 back in 1967).

And I'm not "acting as though" anything. I'm giving information that was stated - I can't remember where - by someone involved with the First Class production. I'm sure it was quoted and discussed on here at the time.

Apart from nodding towards the original male Angel of the early comics, Angel Salvadore was a bit out of place (although she did also provide an aerial adversary to Banshee - and the insect wings looked good. And, in the comics, she was in one version of the Brotherhood (formed by Xorn).

Vaughn had wanted a female Angel in X3, as well as Stacy X and several other things that were dropped when Ratner came on board.

The fact is, though, that there have now been three characters called Angel. Third time lucky we hope.
