Apocalypse X-Men Apocalypse News and Discussion - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 44

I'm not talking about just defeating Apocalypse. The movie was centered around Xavier's optimistic change according to Singer. It's the reason why Moria is there, so he can release his control over her. Jean was there to show how he is not holding her powers back like in the original timeline and instead believing her eventually controlling her powers.
I wouldn't say Jean was replaceable in the movie, but you're pretty much arguing she was only there to give Xavier more development, which is something also problematic.

Based on interviews she was there was multiple reasons: show Xavier's development, show how her and Scott got together, and set-up a Phoenix film.

I just realized this...Mystique was basically taking Magneto's role in the comics when he reformed and started running the school. They even gave her a Malcom X moment.

Charles: "You sound just like Erik."

^oh, well either way he's still in his 90's even if he only said "90" doesn't necessarily mean he meant exactly 90... he was more just speaking relatively... him saying "I am... 97" vs "90" would be kinda redundant, as he's just trying to make the point that he's ****** old

another case of people taking things too literally

Fans can be excused of taking things literally when the director explains something literally and his maths is wrong.

It's not a big deal. Just another careless mistake to point to.

Jean's entire story in the franchise has either been forshadowing The Dark Phoenix Saga or ruining it.

I would just like movie Jean to be characterised outside of "Love interest" and "scared of her evergrowing powers".

In OT she's the doctor in the school which is a cool addition, but she never talks about that does she?

In Apocalypse they had her practicing archery but if you blink you miss it. Missed opportunity to not have at least a scene where she explains the origin of her powers. Clearly they had something in mind going by her audition monologue. She embraced being an outcast which is something I guess.

Doctor?
I honestly thought she was the other mutant diplomat.

The budget for the first movie didn't allow them to have Beast so they made Jean the team doctor.

Dr. doesn't necessarily refer to medicine... Jean often followed in Xaviers footsteps so she could have easily had her doctorate in the mutant genome and dabbled as the school nurse ;)

they never said what she was a doctor of.

It's a nice touch in X1, but I'm not sure it's even mentioned beyond the first film. It appears in hindsight that making her a doctor was more about filling a Beast-shaped hole than it was fleshing her out. Nice touch though. I hope Jean continues to head in that direction, I want her to have as much convential brain-power as she does mutant abilities.

X1 would have been bigger if Beast was in the movie! I feel like in 2000, that would be such an eye candy to the masses. the fight scenes would have been so different with Beast there. I also wish Rogue and Iceman were already grown ups at that time especially now that we might no longer see more of Iceman and Rogue in the present days as full time X-Men.

I hate how Fox limited the first two films and yet they were so successful unlike films like First Class/Apocalypse who were given 100% freedom (story wise) and yet those two underperformed.

fair enough
but fans also say if it wasn't said or explained in the movie itself it doesn't count as continues, so what the director said shouldn't mean anything

kinda reminds me of back when Singer was promoting superman returns and slipped up as Comic-Con on Kal-El names

I would've bought it if Mystique knowingly tried to be deceitful. After all this is why fans love to hate Mystique. She's not a goody two shoes. She might do good things but ultimately it benefits number 1: Mystique.

Missed opportunity.
I understand that. But just because she ultimately chose the right path all those years ago doesn't mean she should be nice to everyone.
I don't really see it as her being nice to them, if anything I found it a little condescending... being nice is a form of manipulation (you catch more fly's with honey... an all that) like I said telling them the truth and being mean an abrupt about it, wouldn't motivate them to be able to be any help too her, and to your other point, motivating them to help save the world would benefit her just as much as anyone else (being part of the world and all lol)

The doctor role in X1 was obviously to have someone examine Wolverine and tell the audience he was experimented on and that his bones are covered in "some kind of metal."

Like I said the budget didn't allow for the Beast make up (cue faux outrage from GuestStar) so they made Jean the Doc. I think it fit her tbh and resulted in a great rapport between Jean and Logan.

In X2 Iceman also refers to her as Doctor Grey btw.

your right.also notice though with exception of nightcrawler called jean dr grey In X2 they have laregly dropped that.

jean as doctor came about solely because with 75 million budget they couldn't afford beast makeup.in script that got leaked since online when beast was in it.
he never left mansion but was the doctor/scientist.at one point both blob and pyro were among brotherhood too.

fact first X-men turned out as well as it did is a testerment to everyone involved.

Calculated the dialogue of all the major players from a transcript. Looks like even Hank had more to say than Erik.

Charles: 1333

Apocalypse: 714

Raven: 632

Hank: 504

Scott: 436

Erik: 417

Jean: 404

And the point of that is.... More words means more value to the story of the film when we know Magneto had a more important role than Beast in the movie? So let's not.

I swear Apocalypse had to happen for this video. Including all the Angel and Nightcrawler ships. Can't looks at the movie the same way again. :woot: This part in particular is really well done though.

Yeah like people will go back to the previous pages to get why you posted that word tally. Again it doesn't matter since Beast still got an unsubstantial role in the film.

Beast was essential to Mystique's arc though.
