Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - Part 8

Many of you do sound just like the people who stay spamming anything DC makes and the two other spiderman franchises. Studio bias isn't just fox fans.

This ALL day! I'm not even a "Fox fan" but a common sense fan and it would make sense for Disney Marvel to have to change and somewhat convolute many things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but everyone is soo up in arms at the slightest change they make for this movie. It is sad how rose colored everyone's eyesight is.

Not taking away from Disney and there success but most do that to Fox because they feel that's in vogue now.

Well X-Men, X2, Days of Future Past and First Class got good reviews and most of the users here don't call them bad films. I don't know if you are just new here or you haven't done your research yet. Apocalypse got bad reviews FYI.

And if Dark Phoenix turns out to be good, then good for everyone including me. But if turns out to be ****, don't forget me to say "I told you so".

And you don't know my post history for you to say that I Blindy accept mcu's every decision. I for one don't like their TV shows and I've already said multiple times that Homecoming is overrated and didn't need to feature Tony Stark. And if they make drastic changes in their X-Men like turning a guy character into a female, or a race swap or not staying true to the look of the character or something drastic like their Aunt May - I'd be the first complain.

You just won't see me complaining about MCU in their threads that much as I only read X-Men / Inhumans comics and aside from the Inhumans, they have yet to adapt the X-Men, so I am not that passionate to talk about their projects for Captain America, Avengers, Spider-Man, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Daredevil, Ant-Man, Jessica Jones, Punisher, Black Panther, Hulk, Iron Fist, Runaways, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Luke Cage and Shield everyday.
I've heard many call all X-Men films garbage on the internet including this site. You might not be in the same vein but to put all your chickens in the basket that they will be these perfect X-Men movies because Fiege is attached to run the show is verrry naive! You are entitled to your naivety but naive it is none the less.

If it turns out great great for all X-Men fans but if it doesn't make your every wish come true don't say I didn't tell you so either.

What's the fan reaction to the Phoenix/X-men Red roster reveals?
Seems like most fans are pretty excited for Phoenix Resurrection and the first issue got everyone interested.

Some fans are annoyed that Jean's X-men Red team doesnt include characters who are meaningful to her (Storm, Emma, Rachel, etc) while others are happy that the book is going in a new direction (with a great writer + artist). I fall into the latter group.

Yea I'm not a fan of that roster nor the art tbh. I liked the variant covers though, especially JSC's and Charest's!

This post wasn't addressed to me but I'm pretty sure naive is hiring the same guy that's botched other X-men films and thinking he'll do better this time because he's said he's sorry. Now that's "verrry naive!"

Is this addressed to MCU fans or Kinberg fans? Things that make you go "Hmmm..."

Lol are we in a MCU movie thread that is constantly spammed by "Kinberg fans"? The reality appears to be that this is an X-Men thread that is constantly spammed by Mean Girl-esque trend-followers posting hate incessantly about something none of us have seen because the movie isn't by the company that is meme-popular. But I could be confused about what thread I'm in. Wouldn't be the first time lol.

I'm in the middle camp. Hyped about Tom Taylor, less hyped about the artist, but he's ok for the most part. And while I did want to see at least Storm on the team, I am happy that Jean is getting to develop some new relationships.

^Exactly anyone with a positive thing to say gets a sarcasm and venom thrown their way. No one even discusses the film just mistakes from past films.

Thanks for being someone's cosigner. I'm sure they can speak/write for themselves. Also
Nobody knows how it will turn out as he's never had so much creative control. Same can be said either way Disney or Kinberg. We have no idea.

Yes and what's more, we're told (by noobs, no less) that we shouldn't post here coz we don't like the movies.

Its unbelievable. But whatever.

Don't group me into that group. I had X-Men films in my top ten MCU/Dceu/Foxverse films. You don't even know me.

Considering the so-called "brain" behind those mistakes is the one helming this new iteration, it's very much relevant to the discussion.

X-Men is about a team of mutants. It was literally designed to be an ensemble. What the hell are you talking about?

Cosigned/cosigner.

Exactly lol who cares what other people have written? Boo freaking hoo someone wrote he hates the X-films. I'm responsible for my lone opinion.

That's convenient for Kinberg. Everybody uses people's previous works to form expectations and opinions. Before BvS came out you could already sense what you were getting if you knew Snyder's films.

I don't really care for the directions the MCU and X-men franchises seem to be going in, so for me at least, this merger probably won't make a difference. I'm more worried about how the solo films will pan out.

Really bugs me how these movies skip a decade in the future without anyone ageing at all though.

Its an error that they choose to ignore, just like how they ignore the blatant continuity errors, how they ignore that Jlaw/Fassbender aren't bring enough people to watch these films and they still put them in a pedestal, how they ignore that the X-Men are stuck in the past and how they ignore that Simon Kinberg isn't a very talented person to be handling such a huge franchise.

I read up on Cassandra Nova’s bio *if that’s who Chastain actually turns out to be. If the twist is that she is Nova it’ll make the most sense as to why she wants to “hurt” Charles by using/manipulating his prize pupil Jean, if Mystique does die I think Nova would play a part in it(through Jean) to kill her out of jealousy that the life Raven (had with Charles) was meant for her. In the Comics Nova played a part in Genosha’s genocide, so maybe she uses Jean to destroy the island and countless mutants. Nova’s whole mission is to ruin Xavier, tarnish the X-Mens reputation while having another agenda that involves using Dark Phoenix.

Charles is known for keeping secrets so I can see him locking Cassandra away on the astral plane because of her violent psyonic energy/thoughts, as teens (wiping his mother’s mind free of her existence and replaced them with memories of Raven) thus destroying her body in the process but her consciousness survived after the battle with Apocalypse she escaped and spent he last 9 years rebuilding her mind and body and studying her new powers.

Just my thoughts.

I can see what you mean.

3 voice actors credited on imdb.

CGIed characters?

Charles got tired of the stock 'Welcome Professor' greeting at Cerebro, so he's hiring some talent to come in as potential replacements for the current voice.

I’d be surprised if cerebro (voice) isn’t connected to Mystique, somehow.

I don't think fans do want them to look the same.

They want the characters treated respectfully.

Fox has been unwilling, or unable, to service all the characters properly - many end up virtually mute. A studio cannot seriously think it can do that to characters with a big following/fanbase/history and that people will be okay with it.

People are worried that - aside from an obviously larger role for Jean Grey - we will get more of the same in Dark Phoenix.

Would it be okay for Loki to be shown as a founder member and leader of the Avengers, or for Voldemort to be the head of Hogwarts? No. At least not in the first films that established the mythology. And yet Fox thinks it's fine for Mystique to be a founder member and leader of the X-Men. Clearly that's not going to go down too well.

The way fans are urging all comic book properties to be made by Marvel Studios in their house style? The same way fans want the DC Universe to look pretty much like the MCU (which is one of the many mistakes that WB actually pursued to disaster in Justice League, but that is on the studio there)?

No, there is a genuine desire for a hegemony in fandom now. This is slightly unrelated, but I think it was partially the reason for the intense vocal minority of hatred for The Last Jedi, because unlike The Force Awakens, it tried not to look just like the original movies that fans have grown accustomed to as "traditional Star Wars."

And while I dread Kinberg as director, I have really enjoyed Deadpool, Logan, and the prospect of New Mutants and X-Force, and other risks that if we are being honest are impossible to make in a movie at MCU. That is why some of us are so lukewarm to all the cheerleading for the MCU X-Men around here. I get the MCU will make some characters more faithfully adapted, but I honestly do not think this is going to go the way some fans really want, and the result will be more superhero movies having the MCU sameness.

P.S. I do think the Mystique is overblown by fans at least partially because of the strong dislike for Jennifer Lawrence who did use her star power to at least negatively affect XMA (I actually think DOFP made perfect sense for the character). Yes, she is on the good side now but part of the fun of time travel stories is to change history. With her being introduced as Charles Xavier's adopted sister in XFC, that trilogy always was meant to aim her more toward being a sympathetic anti-hero than a true-blue (heh) villain.

Is she evil in the comics? Yes (although she has also been on X-Men from time to time). But you know who also was once evil in the comics? Emma Frost. Then they incorporated her in the X-Men and she eventually became team leader. Rogue was introduced as a villain. This kind of switching sides has history in the comics, but because it is one who hasn't done it to this extent on the page, and it was at least partially fueled by the actress' star appeal (although not all as the seeds were placed for it in XFC), fans over emphasize the "sacrilege" of it.

We are so full of proofs that Disney have less respect of proprieties than any other studios.
Proof in the past ( the classic films Disney)
Proof on the other brands (Star Wars)
and also proofs on Marvel films (Homecoming, Thor, Iron Man, Cap, Doc Strange, and i haven't read classic Guardians to know if the movies are faithfull).
But when Feige fabricates his adaptations, he is so clever to hide all like a true politics.

All characters, all stories in Disney are made to create merchandising.
Disney is evil and Fox is the heroes? No. I think that if Fox had the same merchandising power of Disney, we have had movies made like Disney ones.
Fortunately Fox's only 2 attempts to do a proto-Disney movies(with muties) was the first Wolverine (awful) and X3 (not so bad, but not good).

Take Shakespeare for a moment.
a Classic like Romeo and Juliet.

Do you think that is more faithfull to this classic to made a movie with the exaclty the time setting, the roles, the names and the descriptions, also the same psichological traits (but in shallow way) of Romeo and Juliet

or

Take the themes, changes colorous of hairs, change also the sex of Romeo, the time, made a RomeA and Juliet but captured the love, the dualitity, the power of fate?

I have just one very simple question to Fox defenders:

Do you want the X-Men to continue to be supporting characters (more one and done roles) or finally be the lead characters of their own movies?

It's troll baiting. The fans "genuinely want hegemony". I can easily make up facts too.

Also, Fox or Marvel should make a Fantastic Four movie with Medusa, Ant-Man, Luke Cage and Crystal. Or maybe Spider-Man, Black Panther, She-Hulk and Storm, instead of Sue, Reed, Johny and Ben. Because why not? Why do they need to understand the essense of the material and the core of it, which is the characters, if they can look some trivias at wikipedia and find out Namorita was part of FF? Like Raven was part of the X-Men?

The problem isn't Fox really (unless we are talking X3 and XMOW) and I think this has been an issue in the debates between this Disney vs Fox nonsense. The issue is the creatives stance with the main X-Men films and how they handle things.

Pretty much everyone here likes X2, DOFP, Logan and Deadpool. Obviously some more then others but I think it's about time people start realizing that. Why do people like these films if everyone is anti-fox? The issue once again as you have pointed out is that people are tired of X-Men characters not getting any respect. I don't like paying to see my favorite characters wasted or treated poorly, and neither do others. The characters are the main reason most of us show up.

These debates constantly get diverted no matter how many times fans on here tell the defenders "it's cause we are tired of seeing characters wasted, it's time for a new creative team".
For some fans it is. That or a morbid obsession with bringing the original cast back.
No, it's been a consistent complaint but never a big enough issue to keep people from enjoying movies such as X2 or Logan.

Once again, for the millionth time. The treatment of characters and the quality of XMA is responsible for the major backlash.
