I really don't want to derail this thread but since when is Singer the only one good at that? Of recent, CW and Ragnarok both had multiple stories going on at once and the audience was certainly not lost. And while jury's still out on it, Infinity War is taking it to a whole other level with a plethora of characters and storylines. You've got multiple things going on at once, but Singer does such a good job juggling the different storylines that the audience is never lost. That is good filmmaking imo. It's sad that the comic book movie era that I grew up with is being exchanged for an inferior one.
I feel dread about this Dark Phoenix movie.
To be blunt, when it comes to juggling an ensemble cast the Avengers and Guardians movies smoke even the best X-Men movies.
it was about Jubilee. a previous user asked about her and I replied that she was "dropped" from the sequel, meaning Kinberg didnt even bother including her in an expanded role, when the character already knows Jean, Scott and Kurt, and shared time together and lives on that same mansion. But this is Kinberg who we're talking about.
They jump to the 90s, the iconic and most famous period where Jubilee became popular and when she could have had a bigger role, but Kinberg decided to not use her, when the demand/interest was clearly there. Congratulations Fox, thats the route
X:A is entertaining to watch but it took a big dump over the classic mythos.
Storm, Psylocke, Jubilee, Angel, Mystique and Apocalypse were not well portrayed. For instance, Storm worshipped Mystique and was shown to be perfectly okay with the destruction of Cairo (and all the orphans she hung out with). Mystique became leader of the X-Men and even recalled how they had earlier called themselves by that name, when that is blatantly untrue in the previous films.
It's notable that three ethnic minority characters (Storm, Jubilee and Psylocke) were crapped on.
This mishandling of characters is the reason many of us are so apprehensive about Dark Phoenix.
It's clear that Kinberg and the execs are obsessed only with the characters played by Jennifer Lawrence, Fassbender and McAvoy and couldn't give two hoots about anyone else.
For Dark Phoenix, at least Sophie Turner's Jean will get character development and time to shine. But it's still possible she will be a product of a plot driven by the other three main characters and Chastain's mysterious role. I very much doubt Jean will be driving the story, more likely reacting to it.
Inferior comic era? What are people watching?
In the past 10 years we have had
The Dark Knight
Hellboy 2
Iron Man
Kick-Ass
Scott Pilgrim
X-Men First Class
Dredd
The Avengers
GOTG
Snowpiercer
DOFP
Kingsmen
Deadpool
Civil War
Wonder Woman
Logan
Plus plenty more.
If that ain't quality or variety for ya then something else is going on. This has been a golden era for comic films of every type.
Because the X-men movies aren't ensemble movies. Not any more than, say, Star Wars.
You know, you could just...stop thinking about it. Dread can't possibly be a pleasant emotion to feel. Why torment yourself so much?

And yet if you watched any of the DVDs produced from 2000-2005, there are interviews from Singer, Shuler-Donner, Ottman, DeSanto, Lee (Stan), Berry, McKellen, Stewart, Jackman, Paquin, Marsden, Janssen and Romijn-Stamos calling those movies exactly that: Ensemble movies.
Just because the new movies found the need to push certain actors to the forefront does not negate the original intent of the movies to deliver (with varying successes) on not just Xavier, Magneto and Mystique, but also X-men members as the stars of the franchise.
The X-men. You know...the people the movies are named after.
It's like...let's say someone bought some instructions and ingredients to make a pizza, and they're given all the ingredients to make a pizza. But then the person decides to change the instructions and ingrediants until they end up making a kind of taco instead. Then all his friends who wanted a pizza get mad, because they wanted a pizza. But then some other people show up, who really love tacos, and they're like "Mmm, this is a tasty taco that I can't get anywhere else".
Is the taco any less tasty because its not a pizza? Of course not. But the pizza lovers are all like "no tacos for you, only pizza!" even though there's a guy in the downstairs kitchen who'll be making a huge batch of pizzas all night while the taco maker is about to go to bed.
I'm sure they may have originally intended to make ensemble movies, but the fact remains that they didn't make ensemble movies.

ah yes, the old taco/pizza analogy.
Dont care about any negativity, Im looking forward to Dark Phoneix more than any other comic film next year, including Infinity War. Just really want to see a trailer.

I don't see anything inferior about those previously mentioned movies. They are some of the highest rated CBMs along with DOFP and Logan and rightfully so.

I think it's not fair delete someone else's posts with not giving a reason at all...
It's not the first time that this happened in this forum.
