The Dark Knight Rises You Have My Permission To Lounge - Part 8

Hah, yeah obviously Conroy's inflections there were a bit off considering it was just a cold read, but pretty cool nonetheless. I think it just goes to show that it's a beautifully written scene that could work in various Batman contexts.

I enjoyed it. Not trying to tear down Conroy, but he's seen TDK. So it's not like it's a completely cold reading. He shouldn't be confused, he's seen the film and is a big fan of Nolan's Batman movies. Like i said, "cold" reading or not, i doubt he would have done anything different. Especially these days, where he's been on autopilot a bit.

Fans can forget a few lines of their favorite movies.

That was cool. Bale was still better, I like how Bale slowly drops his voice into somewhat of a whisper. Conroy always stays the same with that stern tone. Bale brings more of a dynamic.

lol, he even stumbles on some of the dialogue.

But that was still cool.

Well if he had time with it of course it would flow better, but that stern delivery is what we should expect from him. It's awesome. But Bale is just right for that scene. My point is not to compare but to give Bale some credit even over the "master". Bale really doesn't get enough credit for how he delivers that scene. I understand if people complain about how he starts the line off, since it might seem too growly but he brings more emotion to it as his speech evolves. I imagine if TDK was an animated film instead, that scene would not have had as much impact with a Conroy style voice and delivery.

Agreed, Shauner.

I actually think Bale's voice was very much on point during that speech. No post-processing distorting his delivery. Plus it's all in Bale's eyes during that scene. There is so much conviction when he starts the "You'll hunt me..." part.

I still like Bale more.

Don't pretend that Conroy would have delivered something drastically different. And cold reading? That dialogue has been around and said over and over since 2008. It's not like he's reading it for the first time.

This. Conroy is indeed the OG Batman cartoon voice, but let's not pretend he can be Batman in every instance.

At the moment, Bruce Greenwood took that crown and I look forward to hearing him again in YJ.

The voice is perfect there. The power of "I killed those people" with the music kicking in gets me every time.

So I got to play Batman: Arkham VR yesterday.

Guys...holy sh**, it was incredible. It really is the closest you can get to actually feeling like you're Batman. Peering over the ledge of a skyscraper, incredible. Even just simple things like riding the elevator down to the Batcave and suiting up are ridiculously immersive. And I can't tell you how cool it is to have to actually look down to your utility belt and grab your grapple gun. This is seriously the stuff we dreamed of as kids.

I was able to play it at this place in a mall near me that's sort of like a VR arcade. But holy crap, I'm almost ready to run out and buy a PS4 and VR just so I can play that whole game. It's something you really have to at least experience if you're a Batman fan.

Sounds very cool. I'm certainly keen to try some VR stuff-- Star Wars in particular.

I love this part before the speech:

Harvey: Then why was it me who was the only one who lost everything?
Batman: It wasn't.

The way Bale pauses with tears welling up in his eyes. That whole ending has not been topped yet in any CBM.

I know people kept saying he was overshadowed by Ledger, Eckhart and Oldman in The Dark Knight, but honestly, he gave an incredibly nuanced performance that grounds the entire movie.

His performance has only got more impressive as the years go by.

Amen. He's very underrated as Batman. He has a great paternal/caring yet firm voice that suits the character perfectly. It makes me wonder why he isn't the go-to voice actor for Batman in general while Jason O'Mara keeps being invited back. He's lousy.

I thought Greenwood was outstanding in Under the Red Hood, but utterly bland and flat throughout Young Justice.

Greenwood is OK, never been impressed by any of the voice actors except for Conroy in his earlier days.

I really like Bruce Greenwood in Young Justice. I like Roger Craig Smith as the voice, but he's better suited for Captain America.
I honestly think Rino Romano is underrated as a Batman voice actor, I really like how he delivers his lines, and his voice for Bruce Wayne.

Not only does he pull off Batman, but the relationship between Alfred and Bruce is front and center in the movie. I could watch those two interact for ten hours and not get bored. The movie has a little, and sometimes a lot, of everything.

His performance in UtRH was spectacular, I thought. His monologue to Jason about not crossing 'that line' was moving.

I'd have to agree with Shauner that Conroy's take has gotten a bit bland in recent years, just in the sense that it seemed more nuanced in his early days doing it on BTAS. He just seems a bit on autopilot nowadays, which tbh I don't really blame him for. A lot of fans seem to go bonkers as soon as they hear his trademark stern take on the character.

Have to agree that Greenwood is second in terms of Batman VA - thought he was solid on YJ and great in Under the Red Hood, just had that pretty balanced mix of stern and nuanced in the voice.

I also can't help but agree with people's take on Bale's performance in TDK flying under the radar - just what he does with his eyes and some of the inflections in his voice is excellent. An aspect of Bale's performance as Bruce/Batman that's underrated imo is the fact that he sold the hell out of the vulnerable/human side of the character that was so essential to Nolan's vision. I honestly don't think any other actor could've pulled it off the way he did.

Then, concurrently, he sells the **** out of pure Batman moments like this.

Damn. Did not know young Nolan had so much swagger.

:yay: Happy to hear that.

lmao, that's hilarious. I'm definitely saving that.

I just love how Bruce doesn't break stride while taking out the goon. Totally an underrated moment from the film.

If I'm honest, we could have used a scene like that in TDKR. Just Bruce being a bad ass outside the costume.

Imagine when Bruce made it back through the tunnels or whatever, in Rises, and took out a mercenary like that. That would have been awesome.
