We're just tossing ideas around. That's all we can really do since none of us are in a position to know what's actually going on.

Careful saying that. I said that once and got completely lambasted. It's amazing how as a nerd community, we can all speculate all of the obvious options until we're blue in the face, but the minute you try to think of something slightly out of the box, people jump down your throat.

Speculation is for fun, period. None of us have any way of actually knowing. And if we all came in here and said "He's a Kree, conversation over," this place would be VERY boring.

This might be left field... But the first thing I thought when I saw the alien was its a Eternal! Might not be a popular view but Marvel are ambitious, and considering the regenerative qualities of the serums and the fact that the Eternals are near Immortal are think there is a case.

And I think Skye is an Eternal as well or atleast half Eternal, Half Human. we clearly see Coulson distressed and weary by this entire revelation about the Alien, but also by the fact that for some reason Skye's reaction to the serum wasn't the same to his own.

Maybe someone can help me out, but I remember there's one story of some kid that was born human although he was half Eternal, and only once he was killed and brought back to life by a Celestial he became a Eternal.

If we take that into consideration (well if I'm right about the Eternal thing anyway it's been a few years since I read an eternal comic,) then I'd bet that's why Skye's abilities haven't manifested as yet.

And maybe Skye is actually Abigail Brand... Since Brand is Half Human and Alien herself. And her adventures with SHIELD, will lead to her founding SWORD possibly with Coulson or Coulson establishes SWORD to protect Earth and Skye works her way up to become the director of SWORD.

I never thought about the Eternals... Cool stuff. The Brand theory has been floating around for a while. Also, the fact that Whedon created the character or co-created is also a big heads up.

Eternal or Inhuman... it's not a frost giant that's for sure.

He's a Kree, conversation over. He has the exact same markings on the same side of the chest as Ronin. And with the GH splattered all over he almost has to be Mar Vel or they are throwing us a huge head fake as to his identity. Skye could be a hybrid "pink" Kree. Possibly Human-Kree mix.

God I hope that isn't mar vell. But Kree does seem likely to me.

I see what you did there. But just for fun, let's let everyone else keep speculating. You don't have to participate.

On a side note, I'm watching the episode again, Paxton's little slide across the table to kill that guard was awful. Very unbelievably effective. That's one inept guard.

Also, as others have mentioned, something about 'Tripp' seems off. How much he's connecting to Simmons, how he deflected the question of "What are you doing here?" I wouldn't be surprised if he and Garrett both are undercover HYDRA. Maybe they flipped, took the money or something.

That new agent Triplett will become Triathlon....See what I did there.

the whole thing could have been orchestrated to get Skye that serum. This Clairvoyant guy if he's as good as advertised might have pulled all the right strings to make what happened happen. He might have wanted to destroy that base and all that tech and research. Next he might make a play to kidnap Skye. Personally I think that SHIELD has been infiltrated. Some of the top people have been compromised. And some of the higher ups know it. So there are things that are secretly being done to find out who is who and what side they are on and etc. I think this will be a big part of what is going on in CA:TWS

that is what i think they might have skye kidnapped and brainwashed. hey they might have her working w/ deathlock

I know Tripplett is giving a suspicious vibe but I think it's strategically done to fool the viewer and Garrett will actually be working for Hydra. Some misdirection so to speak

I'm gonna watch this at home again tonight it was so awesome

Did anyone else feel like Coulson was saying "don't let me die please" when they went from the shot of him to the flashback of the machine working on his brain? Almost like he was remembering more clearly and wasn't saying let me die?

I've re watched it a few times now and I keep hearing "let me die!" Screamed while the camera is on coulson in the present, then "don't let me die please" during the flashback (which sounds much clearer and close) and then "let me die" when it goes back to the shot of him in the present...

Do any of you think that Garret is the clearvoyent or works for him/her? Because he randomly showed up. Also at the end Coulson said see you later and Garret replys " Maybe sooner then you think". And last but not least when he was talking to Ian he probley set it up so it looked like he wasnt working with him because he knew S.H.I.E.L.D. could see and hear them in that room. :jedi

And also he could see the bunker and spy on them. So Ian could have also have shot Skye to set all that up.

I seriously hope Garret isnt bad. Id like to see him appear more often

I noticed some reviewers were complaining about the magic shield records box and that wouldn't exist or put on loan to agents. I thought it was fairly obvious that it was a favor but also that they were probably using Coulson's security code, as a very high ranking agent, he'd have access to a lot of that stuff and even so, there were still missing files and redacted information.

I don't trust Garrett either.

I didn't think about it bring that complex. If they can pull it off without losing the GA, I'm game.

I do agree on thinking that these events will play a big role in TWS.

I'm pretty sure the facility is one of Fury's secret labs he keeps outside of SHIELD's watchful eyes.

LOL... just looked at the poll, and I can't believe I'm the lone dissenter. :)

Posted my reasoning on the main thread...
--------------------------------------------------
Yes, it might not be a SHIELD facility on the books, but at the very least, it's a facility that SHIELD oversees/uses for it's more "experimental" medical procedures. Killing the two guards was absurd. If I was Fury and heard about this fiasco, I'm shooting the Bus right out of the sky. Even if they later explain that it was the base of some nefarious/evil organization so that Coulson and team's actions will retroactively seem less sociopathic or insane, doesn't make it less so in the moment, since based on the information at hand, the obvious assumption is that the base is aligned with SHIELD. Attacking it is basically a declaration of war against his own organization. Just frustratingly poor writing on this front.

Especially frustrating because there was so much cool stuff in there... the (probably) Kree, Garrett, Trip (despite not having much to do), the midair docking sequence, the most advanced database querying system known to man, etc.
--------------------------------------------------
If those Galactus-sized logical chasms are somehow bridged in the upcoming episodes, this episode will go straight from "didn't like it" to "loved it" for me. However, I'm not too optimistic. The writers on this show continuously eschew what makes sense for the convenient out. :(

I don't feel bad for the guards protecting a facility doing some really dark and shady practices.

Coulson and his team repeatedly asked for medical help and stated that this was an emergency before those guards started shooting at them. And even then they were given the chance to stop firing before Garrett and Ward shot back.

The guards didn't even have shield insignia on their shoulders...and we know they like to put their logo on everything. I think it's a HYDRA lab
