All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - - Part 11

Honestly, I’m just thankful that we’re even getting another Superman movie. I remember that long dull period between 2007 till 2010 where it felt like the Superman franchise was going nowhere; from wondering if a sequel to SR would come out, to hearing that they were rebooting it and trying to find people to give them pitches.

This may be asking for much but given the level of people involved with this project, I’m kind of hoping that this film ends up being received as the best origin story for a superhero yet on the big screen
Those are mighty high expectations but if any superhero could do it, it would be big blue.

Indeed; in fact, if I remember correctly, the consistent issues that some had with Batman Begins were the lack of interesting female character/leads in the film, let alone on how dull the romance angle came off for some, along with how the action sequences (particularly the fight scenes) weren't shot so well.

But aside from those things, people loved nearly everything else about BB from what I've read.

If MOS can repeat the same success in the areas that BB succeeded in, and overcome the issues that BB had in the areas that I just mentioned, which it does have a chance on doing with characters like Lois Lane (played by Amy Adams) and Faora and how Snyder has a good visual eye for things and the possibilities regarding action scenes featuring superman, then it's possible that MOS may be able to claim the best "origin" film award.

I would also fault Nolan as not being the strongest when it comes to romance -- it's just not his bag.

I disagree. I thought he handled it will in Inception. I believed Cobb's feelings for her.

Based on spoilers, it sounds like he's handling it well in TDKR as well.

You know, I would have thought by now that we would have had a few more people with different perspectives/positions at Comic Con that would have been able to successfully record the trailer with a camera. Guess I was wrong.haha

Same here, although I'm pretty sure he's not in the story arc in the comics.

Yeah, I think I might have read it before, but I can't remember. I did read the whole new krypton saga. Which I think was around the same time. I might have to borrow my friend's comics again.

Anyways do you guys think it'll be better to read the comics before the movie or after?
I read all star superman after the movie but #775 before. I think reading it before seems to spoil the suspense. But then when you gotta wait like 1 whole year, you'll feel really impatient.

Yeah I myself re-read them before the films and it didn't really spoil them for me.

I know, right? It's hard to believe that out of a room THAT big, there wasn't one other camera recording. Oh well I guess we should be grateful for what we got, because I'm sure that security was pretty strict and whoever it was that recorded it, had it well hidden. Luckily I saved the video before it was taken down. :ninja:

Probably a slow-mo greenscreen music video like Sucker Punch.

I believe you're one of those nolanites, am i right? you seems really condescending every one especially Snyder. Dude, i love and admire Nolan's work, and until now, he have a good streak of films in his direction. But this condescending thing, it's going too far, as it looks like Snyder's effort is less and insignificant in shaping this movie.

Well, just want to remind everyone that doubting Snyder as a creative director: "If he is a mediocre and talentless like what Rockstar here said, why do Nolan choose him among the others? Because i guess Nolan sees something in him and that he is the right person for this project rather than Duncan Jones and whoever the others are. And even i believe Nolan knows that this type of character isn't his cup of tea, meaning the sci fi and fantastical aspect of the character aren't in his field."

and in one of the articles, Snyder said it himself that the way to approach a character like Superman is by doing the opposite, by grounding the style as much as possibly can since the character himself is a very larger than life one, saying that Supes himself can sell the fantasy and great visual without needing to stylized much like his other movie (except DotD) where their character is mere mortal but in a larger than life story and condition.

Since we're waiting for the teaser. Details of an action scene in MoS?

"I have been told details of one specific scene in particular, in which Superman
breaks apart a building and uses the building itself as a weapon in some kind of ‘super martial art’ fashion. “Girders as throwing stars” was the specific example I was given.

Thoughts?

Then why didn't they just say that instead of "throwing stars"? He's not a ninja.

I'm surprised more people aren't commenting on this... It's what we've been dreaming of. They must be at work, or doing something else constructive with their lives. Losers. :o

Off-topic, but, your avatar is rather disturbing, lol.

Not very considerate of Superman. Destroying and using one of the city's buildings as a weapon when I'm sure he could've used less destructive means. He must be desperate.

Who cares?! It's ****ing epic incarnate.

But seriously, I see your point.

Could be an empty building that's already beyond repair, could be one that's half built with exposed girders, who knows. Too early to start assuming Superman will either be desperate or careless.

I must say, if that scene is real, it sounds awesome. Finally getting a film where Superman is really going to let loose with his powers. Catching people from falling and lifting heavy things is all very well, but using girders as weapons? Brilliant!
