You're not the only one. It's a central part of the new design which holds everything together nicely.

It works beautifully both in comic and live action form. That to me signals a great piece of work.

What's the meaning of piping?

It's a tailoring term. The raised line detailing over the suit's midsection and legs. Another example of piping would be the red edge detailing on the Star Trek: TNG uniforms.

This I need to disagree with. I think the piping works solely in live action. In illustrations I feel that it often appears clunky and over-designed. It doesn't quite have that crispness and bold simplicity that successful comicbook designs require when drawn in that style.

Yup.

I like it for the same reason I like the texture, despite some people harping on about it looking like a basketball (even though it's obviously a chain mail effect).

If you took away the texture and the piping, you'd get this kind of thing:

Mr--Fantastic-1-ioan-gruffudd-216193_500_750.jpg

Which I hate... :(

Will Lois find out Clark is Superman in this is my big question I wonder...

Am I the only one who actually really likes the piping? I think it'd look wrong without it.

Some of the piping is ok. But the wrist guards and stuff around his sides, on the upper midsection just doesn't work for me. It looks poorly designed, messy and it is just too much here.

The belt region is actually pretty classy, and the piping down his leg works for the most part. I'd probably like it a lot more if they got ride of the wrist guards and the section above the belt, on his sides.

Yes she will.

And I think the MOS suit is perfect and does Superman justice very well, I love all that I've seen of it, it ironically looks much more like Superman to me than the Superman Returns' suit, and blows the New ****** 52 suit out of the water every day out of the week, bar none. In fact, i like the suit so much that if they had to change it in the New 52 titles they should have just used that fior Superman's suit since the beginning. It's beautiful and majestic but most of all still Superman (re: NO armor and NEVER any collar).

What about Daily Planet Clark then I wonder....always been a fave aspect of the character for me. I hope (most) of it's kept in tact. :)

It'll be there. But probably toward the end of the movie I'd imagine.

Every time I read this, it feels like pure fanboy talk, overdoing it because it is the movie suit. It is so over the top. I like it, but there are clear things that I would change, and more importantly it is far from the definitive look for Superman. It is no coincidence that the most "Superman" shots in the trailers so far are from angles and distances where the suit isn't fully visible. I am not saying it is going to look terrible on screen, but it is far from definitive.

The best bits are the cape and the shield. The rest is hit or miss.

And the suit is armor by the way. :cwink:

Not my personal choice, but I think she does too, and I was wondering, what makes you specifically say that?

Everything we have learned is clearly leading to that imo. She is searching for a Super-being named Clark Kent who looks just like this Superman guy. Not hard to figure out imo.

Maybe to you, but all he really said was that it's better than the SR suit and the New 52 suit, and I think there would be plenty of people here who would agree with that. No need to dismiss it as "pure fanboy talk."

There are many who find it much better than "hit or miss," and not just "because it's the movie suit," but because it's pretty damn gorgeous to look at, imo, not just for fanboys but for people who appreciate movie costumes in general. All the Kryptonian costumes in this film, especially Jor-El's, are downright works of art, imo.

1. How condescending. I personaly love everything about the suit and literally the ONLY thing I would change is how the yellow looks in SOME shots (though in most I think it looks fine). That opinion comes from the suit fitting my tastes, not from me being too much of a fangirl.

Your negative view of the suit is ALSO taste. Nothing more.

2. The most 'Superman' images for me have been these two, where the suit is in full view:

3. No, the suit isn't armour. It is what Kryptonians wear UNDER their armour :o

Jor-El's armor is class. I like Zod's armor is class. Superman's is good, but far from classic. The piping in and of it self is striking in how un-Superman it is. And it all comes down to the same problem the New 52 has. They need something in the midsection area, but they don't want the classic look there. So we just start plopping stuff down there, and give it a reason for existing. Which is fine, but then it started to effect the other parts of the suit, like the side sections.

And I never get the complaints about the New 52 suit, while love for this one. I think both suits have flaws, and they aren't that different.

New 52 suit has elements I hate (the collar, the belt and the fact it looks like Batman/Iron Man style armour). The MOS suit doesn't.

Love. So easy to throw around.

It is not about taste. In which case Clark in a pair of cargo shorts could look definitively like Superman to any person as long as it fits their taste. I can understand liking it, even loving it. But the constant need to protect it, like it is fragile is overdoing it imo. And it isn't a new thing, it is what happens here. Condescending is what happens when someone brings up what they don't like about the suit. Just go look at the suit thread.

First, I said the trailers. The over the shoulder shot before the takeoff, the exiting of the Fortress, the over the shoulder shot of him above the soldiers, the shot of him flying all emotional. Cape and shield, cape and shield. Thought the silhouette of the exit from the Fortress is gorgeous, it is so iconic looking because it is hiding most of everything other then the cape.

And the first image is not all the suit, unless Superman loses his legs during the battle of Smallville.

3. No, the suit isn't armour. It is what Kryptonians wear UNDER their armour :o
So you mean armor? Base level armor. Like chain mail, the same texture they are going for with the suit. Y

This is armor. That is why it has the texture of chain mail and the necessary connection points for the heavy armor to be placed on over it. It is light armor, but it is still armor.

No condescending is what happens when one arrogant poster treats everyone with a positive opinion about something he dislikes as though they are stupid, blind or in denial. A poster like you.

And don't be ridiculous. Of course a man in cargo shorts wouldn't look like Superman. We're talking about a man in a Superman suit, that has a few changes you don't like... don't straw man me :whatever:

First, I said the trailers. The over the shoulder shot before the takeoff, the exiting of the Fortress, the over the shoulder shot of him above the soldiers, the shot of him flying all emotional.

And the second image is not all the suit, unless Superman loses his legs during the battle of Smallville.

I know you said the trailers. I am saying that I think those two images look more 'Superman' than anything seen in the trailers.

And if you're going to be ridiculously pedantic, you're just going to continue coming across... as you are...

So you mean armor? Base level armor. Like chain mail, the same texture they are going for with the suit. Y

No, I mean precisely what I said.

The new 52 suit looks like something someone would actually wear as armour for protection. Like Batman's suit in the TDK triology or Iron Man suit. The MOS suit is something that is worn under armour, but it is completely incapable of actually protecting a person without powers... it would be entirely pointless wearing it as armour if you were human... therefore it is not 'base level armor'... it's more like underwear for armour.

Just because it is texture in a chain mail effect, doesn't mean it IS chain mail...

And I never get the complaints about the New 52 suit, while love for this one. I think both suits have flaws, and they aren't that different.

First off, the new 52 sucks because it is armour and, thus, detracts from what the character is all about. The MOS suit is NOT armour. You know why? Because Zod and company are still wearing their undersuits while on trial and are manacled. You do not allow prisoners to wear body armour and that is a fact.

Second, the most distinctive part of the classic Superman suit, besides the S shield, is the collar/cape attachment. Other heroes have capes, boots and belts. Very few of them have the same cape/collar region. By giving Superman a generic Mandarin collar the uniqueness of his appearance decreases greatly. Mandarin collars are an overused staple of scifi fashion seen from Green Lantern to Star Trek to Star Wars to Neo in the Matrix trilogy.

Those are two pretty big differences. You may not agree with us about the effect of those differences, but you can't stay you don't understand our position anymore.

Devin supposedly hates "serious" Superhero films save for Watchmen. Which was the reason he gave FF a higher rating than Begins.
yeah maybe true.

''I do know this: Warner Bros loves this movie. They think they're winning 2013 with this film. Everybody who has seen it has come back beyond excited. I have heard nothing but great things about the movie, with the scope of the action being what really has everybody buzzing - this is the first film to ever truly bring us the godlike physical abilities of Superman. I guess I can take a change in Superman's themes in exchange for Superman finally really punching the **** out of stuff. ''
