Based on what was reported way earlier, I think the world, as presented in MOS, will be at war or in some major political turmoil.... akin to 24.

It is possible there will be dystopian elements in play.

Maybe not as extreme as Watchmen, but enough to warrant the need for a Superman.

Well obviously Metropolis isn't going to be all songs and dancing :p It's a big city with as many problems as any other. I just meant it's not as 'dark' as Gotham or Watchmen... I suppose mostly on a colour scheme level I want that to be clear. It helps a lot that Superman isn't a hero who works mostly at night. With Batman and Watchmen there was a natural 'darkness' to the films because the majority of what was going on was at night.

Though I'm curious what early reports you're referring to that said Metropolis would be at war or in major political turmoil... I mean it's totally plausible, but I must have missed those articles.

I remember seeing set photos of Cavill in Chicago for when he was filming that scene of Clark riding a bicycle in Metropolis and in one of the photos, you can see some protesters holding signs up in the background.

:funny: They could be protesting anything! People protest all the time :p

Wasn't that an actual protest going on at the same time? I remember reading that before.

I don't think the world will be all that different than the real world, aside from the aliens and super-beings of course. It'll be our world and will only diverge from ours once the Kryptonians arrive. There's plenty of war and turmoil in the real world without having to make it up.

So basically we're talking Metropolis as presented in Action Comics.

true; dang.lol

Well hopefully MOS will do a better job on showing a world already in turmoil than SR did with its one small scene where Clark was going through the news channels at the Kent farm.lol

I'm leaning towards this take on Superman being inspired by the original version of the character based on the quote fron Nolan from 2010 and with this supposed "edge" the film will have.

Don't forget his kind of patronising speech to Lois...

'I hear everything. You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior, but every day I hear people crying for one.'

It's not just Metropolis. I also remember the scripting called for Clark to be an early 20s freelance journalist in Africa during some major political coup that led to major fallout.

I'm getting the impression that just like with TDK, Nolan is going to present the world in a very 'gray' light. Which is true with what the above poster said, it is incredibly realistic.

Like all the Nolan films, I think there will be a big intellectual component to this film with lots of fun pretentious dialogue to provoke thinking.

Sounds just like the real world.

Jonah Nolan likes to put political themes in his script which is evident in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. So it could be expected if he did do the first rewrite.

Something I am definitely glad of is that they write in big drawn out over the top poetic monologues. Over the top character deserve the over the top dialogue. But I do enjoy that Goyer can add levity and a bit of cheese.

'I hear everything. You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior, but every day I hear people crying for one.'

I love this line.

¨You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior...but everyday I hear people crying for one¨

¨So, you were OK with leaving us to cry out and suffer? and leaving me to raise an infant with super powers, and not getting a goddamn goodbye, even though our intimate relationship together was completely wiped from my memory, so it shouldn't have mattered if I got a goodbye or not, because we were only friends from my recollection of events, even though I make it out as if we were more than friends?¨

¨Urghhh...¨

¨Shame on yooooouuuuu!!!!!¨

I totally was. I think you can do without a superhero to do everything for you. In fact when I told you I hear people crying for one, I meant that everyone whines as long as there's someone to listen to them. They got spoiled because there's a Superman to call when things get difficult. I hope you learnt to go by without me as I have things to care for too, like my roots.

and leaving me to raise an infant with super powers,

Didn't you see the movie, Lois? You didn't know he had super-powers until the end of it. Plus it's not like you did it by yourself.

and not getting a goddamn goodbye,

We talked about it in the movie.

Maybe you're too convinced all that happened in SII when it could have happened between SII and my trip to Krypton. That would explain it, don't you think? Anyways, everyone in the world, you and me included, knew you were in love with me so me going away without a good-bye was still an issue.

Superman wont be a street based character like batman. Thats another story. What they mean by edgy is that you will see something far more involving, suspenseful, intense and modern. This is a good and original formula to follow.

No...its not original.

MOS is just doing what EVERYONE's doing. MOS is a trend follower.

Brilliant :D

I believe that we will still be talking about Superman Returns even after MOS is released.

SR is a major spectacle. Filled with flaws and bitter disappointment...

It's why I love to watch it every know and then :hehe:

SR is like Ang Lee's HULK. :o

That’s not a bad comparison. Both directors, I think, had “art film” pretensions; and both thought they had supplied the requisite genre elements to meet fan expectations. As much as they may have succeeded on the first point, they arguably failed at the second. Nolan (especially with TDK) got the balance.
