Based on what was reported way earlier, I think the world, as presented in MOS, will be at war or in some major political turmoil.... akin to 24.

It is possible there will be dystopian elements in play.

Maybe not as extreme as Watchmen, but enough to warrant the need for a Superman.

Well obviously Metropolis isn't going to be all songs and dancing It's a big city with as many problems as any other. I just meant it's not as 'dark' as Gotham or Watchmen... I suppose mostly on a colour scheme level I want that to be clear. It helps a lot that Superman isn't a hero who works mostly at night. With Batman and Watchmen there was a natural 'darkness' to the films because the majority of what was going on was at night.

Though I'm curious what early reports you're referring to that said Metropolis would be at war or in major political turmoil... I mean it's totally plausible, but I must have missed those articles.

Well obviously Metropolis isn't going to be all songs and dancing It's a big city with as many problems as any other. I just meant it's not as 'dark' as Gotham or Watchmen... I remember seeing set photos of Cavill in Chicago for when he was filming that scene of Clark riding a bicycle in Metropolis and in one of the photos, you can see some protesters holding signs up in the background.

I don't think the world will be all that different than the real world, aside from the aliens and super-beings of course. It'll be our world and will only diverge from ours once the Kryptonians arrive. There's plenty of war and turmoil in the real world without having to make it up.

I'm leaning towards this take on Superman being inspired by the original version of the character based on the quote fron Nolan from 2010 and with this supposed "edge" the film will have.

I'm getting the impression that just like with TDK, Nolan is going to present the world in a very 'gray' light. Which is true with what the above poster said, it is incredibly realistic.

Like all the Nolan films, I think there will be a big intellectual component to this film with lots of fun pretentious dialogue to provoke thinking.

Jonah Nolan likes to put political themes in his script which is evident in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. So it could be expected if he did do the first rewrite.

Like all the Nolan films, I think there will be a big intellectual component to this film with lots of fun pretentious dialogue to provoke thinking.

Something I am definitely glad of is that they write in big drawn out over the top poetic monologues. Over the top character deserve the over the top dialogue. But I do enjoy that Goyer can add levity and a bit of cheese.

Superman wont be a street based character like batman. Thats another story. What they mean by edgy is that you will see something far more involving, suspenseful, intense and modern. This is a good and original formula to follow.

MOS is just doing what EVERYONE's doing. MOS is a trend follower.

That’s not a bad comparison. Both directors, I think, had “art film” pretensions; and both thought they had supplied the requisite genre elements to meet fan expectations. As much as they may have succeeded on the first point, they arguably failed at the second. Nolan (especially with TDK) got the balance.
