BvS All Things Superman and Batman: An Open Discussion - - - - Part 56

Most of the negative reactions I've seen are directed at the first part, not Dawn of Justice.

The "lawsuit" joke being the most repeated.
That was my problem with it but strangely the subtitle makes it work better for me. Maybe as it stops it just being a Vs title. Plus my long term ambitions are all about the JL film so I'm just really glad they are going all out on that front with Dawn of Justice.

All this nitpicking over just the title, I can only imagine what's to come.
Meanwhile I saw Dawn of Justice as the #1 trending thing on twitter a few moments ago.
Pretty much how things have been going.

The crazy thing is just how many films have these sorts of titles only now it's the mother of all talking points. From avengers to the apes to the TF and star trek movies..As with all things, the buck really does stop with WB/DC.

Many movie titles take some words from other titles.

The Dark Knight

Star Trek Into the Darkness

Thor: the Dark World.

Transformers: Age of Extinction

Avengers Age of Ultron

300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Dark Knight Rises

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice.

Why fans are suddenly objecting to the title for being generic is puzzling.

I hope the Injustice sequel is somehow linked in with these films. The Arkham Knight gameplay trailer debuted today alongside the BVS DoJ title so maybe they have a wider plan.

Also I never saw any high level Injustice tournament play. Could be interesting.
A lot of foot diving. :funny:

The "VS" will now remind me of this:

Now be fair. You know as well as I that Superman could have explored other options, like sending Zod to his room without supper, or giving him a firm scolding and making him stand in the corner. :o
:lmao:

Age of Ultron sounds menacing. Dawn of Justice sounds like a Justice League commercial. Marvel's had their version of that, some people like to call it Iron Man 2.

Double standards and such.
It is no way a double standard. One is a sequel to the original Marvel's the Avengers. The other isn't a sequel to Batman v Superman. Come on now. :woot:

Many movie titles take some words from other titles.

Many movies have massive destruction and several other things:cwink:

Been a good few weeks for DC's market awareness.
Comic Con should be fun

Batman v Superman and Superman v. Batman aren't the same to me.

Batman v. Superman sounds like Batman is going to confront Superman. Batman is the challenger. So I would think that Superman fans would want the title in this order.

Superman v. Batman makes it seem like Superman is challenging Batman where Superman is the antagonist.

That's how I'm reading this too. Superman's not going to be the one picking a fight with Batman without good cause (presumably). Whereas BvS is a follow-up to MoS, Batman/Luthor should have ample ammo to be wary or even hostile towards Superman already.

My initial reaction was that the title's a bit cheesy, but the more it sits, the more I'm liking it.

I didn't see that people shouldn't express their feelings but plenty of comicbook films have had bad titles but of course you have people pretending this is the first one.
Is anyone pretending that? This happens every time new news comes out. Do some people complain just to complain? Yep. But that doesn't mean everyone that isn't thrilled about the news is acting like this,

More importantly, it is always the same reaction. Lumping everyone together, complaining that everyone is whining.

It is a double standard and Age of Ultron is a dopey title as well.

Age of Ultron sounds menacing. Dawn of Justice sounds like a Justice League commercial. Marvel's had their version of that, some people like to call it Iron Man 2.

So, if a title needs to be menacing to be acceptable ?

Like, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones ?

:oldrazz:

What if we thought we were getting a Superman trilogy when we were really getting a Justice League Trilogy?

Age of Ultron doesn't sound menacing at all because people don't know what an Ultron is anyway.

Age of Apocalypse is a better version of that title format.

All of Marvel's preceding movies were Avengers commercials.

The title is okay. I get why they felt they had to include the whole BvS thing, it's a marketing no brainer. Dawn of Justice also sounds okay but no one is going to be saying it. The movie will be called 'B v S' by everyone, which I guess makes sense as that's the reason the GA will be going to see it.

Also disagree with the people freaking out that because Batman's name is first he will have top billing or will be the main protagonist. It's the title, Batman is the challenger, plus it's what everyone's been calling it for ages so what's the point of just swapping the order round?

Cavill got a clear first mention ahead of Affleck in today's press release, I 100% believe he'll have top billing in BvS, no question.

I wish it was "The Age of Ultron", but I don't find it dopey. Dawn of Justice sounds a bit like an infomercial. And it is no double standard.

Batman v Superman: Age of Luthor coming next summer

This, plus I think it flows off the tongue a little easier.

Mostly though Superman fans are really uptight and defensive.

What if we thought we were getting a Superman trilogy when we were really getting a Justice League Trilogy?

It'll be cool if it's a Superman-driven story throughout: MoS was Superman's origin, BvS Superman meets the the rest of trinity, JL Superman leads the league.

Seems pretty obvious at this point.

And once again people will jump to any conclusion just to take a shot at this movie. Not too long ago, people were crying about WB dragging its feet. Now WB plans to set the Justice League table with this movie, and now it's just a shallow commercial for that film.

If you feel that way, save yourself $15 and a trip to the cinema. Simple solution to your problem.

Was Empire Strikes back just a prequel to Return of the Jedi?
Was Two Towers just a prequel to Return of the King?
Was The Half-Blood Prince just a prequel to The Deathly Hallows?

This is nothing new to cinema, folks. It's called a saga. One chapter leads into another, while also serving as its own contained story. If BvS can succeed at both, then this is a complete and total non-issue.

But hey, let's just jump ahead two years and assume the worst, without seeing a single frame from the movie. I'm glad this fanbase stays true to form year-in and year-out.

That sounds menacing. :wow:

I must admit when I first heard of that title, I thought the transformers had done a cross over with marvel. :woot:
