BvS All Things Superman and Batman: An Open Discussion - Part 99

There has been lots of negative reports about BvS; everything from Affleck (which still exists), to Gadot's casting/Eisenberg's casting. Even Snyder directing. Most people I see talking about BvS pin their hopes on Terrio scripting, one of the positives. As for the interview with Roven, it sounds like its much more a Batman-centric story in BvS; I noticed he didnt talk much about Cavill as Superman, except to reference him against Affleck's Batman. It makes me ponder whether its true, that being a younger more inexperienced Superman, they are going to kill Superman in BvS against Metallo/or Doomsday.

He didn't talk about Superman because he wasn't asked about Superman. The question he was asked by the interviewer was "How is the Batman here different from the Batman in Nolan's trilogy" and the follow up questions were about Affleck's casting and the wider DC universe, it was a 3-4 question thing. It wasn't Roven talking about the movie as much as it was him answering the questions he was asked. Maybe next time try to get more context before trying to stir up stuff here?

Basically everything bolded in your comment is your rampant speculation run wild without understanding the context Roven was talking in. Here, it is a short video, enjoy

Anyone who's against Wonder Woman's new origin hasn't read all of Brian's amazing run.

I've read some of the beginning but waiting for it to completely finish so I can buy the GNs to it.

Was interested to read the latest reports about Batman v Superman. Surprised that Nolan is still involved, since the press releases from Warner Bros didnt mention him. Not too happy with the New 52 Wonder Woman origin; makes me wonder if DC Comics are really going to revert back to Pre-New history next year in the comic books? As for Ben Affleck, seems Charles Roven is trying to stare down some of the earlier reports (perhaps a way to try and reverse the negative publicity?)

The negative publicity passed quite some time ago about Ben in the role Captain Zeo. Keep up.

What I feel after the interview?

1. Superfans, please don't freak out about a tiny height difference or the other things Roven said. All of it was perfectly reasonable, and remember, these people make decisions as adults working in the film industry not through the prism of fanboys and fan girls. Batman is "older" but it's not the difference of a 22 yr old and a 55 yr old. Superman is going to be 35 in the film's timeline. Youthful but a full grown assed man people. Batman will have some years and some experience... This is cause for panic? 6'1" vs 6'3"? Oh! The sky is falling!

2. The Zeus origin for WW? I really dislike it. You know what else I really dislike? Bruce Wayne being trained by Ra's al Ghul. I think the classic origin works far better, is more unique and is thematically in line with the what the character represents. Also, Hippolyta should be the focus of WW's parental issues. More daddy stuff? We've seen it (and even if you never see Zeus in a solo film his presence is kind of over shadowing) many times. All that said, just like the Batman trained by Ra's stuff, I'll get over it if it's done well or doesn't detract from the over all story or quality of a solo WW film. I am also not going to CONTINUALLY whine about how I didn't get what I wanted now that an official word has been given. Much like Gadot being cast, it's a done deal. Supporters of other actresses kept on harping (still do) but whys? It's done. Diana is a Demi-goddess in the DCCU. Not what I want... Also not the end of the world.

3. I like the idea of a very strong dichotomy being presented between Bruce and Batman. Taking inspiration from aspects of TDKReturns is not the same as doing that story or aping it moment for moment. Ben seems a perfect fit now, granted, sight mostly unseen, because his public persona, especially in interviews, is of a gregarious and often publicly minded guy. Perfect for a widely known business man and philanthropist. And I think he can also be intense and brooding and a person of sharp intellect and cunning as we've seen him in other things too.

I can't see how this interview means the sky is falling in the least.

I disagree. Just because somebody doesnt like the New 52 origin doesnt mean they havent read it. I prefer the classic origin to the new origin.

I would've loved to see the clay origin. That's what I consider her "True origins".

Another hyperbolic paragraph laced with anxiety, eh?

Honestly we are still aways away from a solo film where here complete origin is a tale that has to be told in detail. Unless BvS is specific about it, there's still wiggle room for a lot of stuff to make it in somehow, someway. I want the more classic origin to but cest la vie my funky U.K. Brotherman.

I recently went back and read all the old articles about Batman 5, all the way up to around when Bale was cast. Pretty damn interesting.

That site is a time capsule. I'll always respect Jett for his work during that period of time.

I love that too, it's super thorough. It's amazing to check the rumors that were around back then, like rock bands contributing for the soundtrack (lol), the fake trailer descriptions, etc. It's a bummer he couldn't keep the archives from before 2003, that would have been fascinating. I wish there were more old sites like that around.

That's because you had a piss poor interviewer. but it's so unlike you to overreact man. What's up?

Nah I think that boat has sailed old man. They're going with the Zeus got laid angle.

Most likely. Still, like Martha Kent living and only Pa Kent dying, Ra's training Bats, Bucky being Steve's childhood friend, Thor not wearing a helmet ect. I'll live with it. No use whining over spilt milk we haven't even seen yet. The pattern the milk makes on the floor might actually be quit pleasing once we actually enter the kitchen and see it with our own eyes. ;)

When it comes to a solo WW film, I wonder whether WB is really committed to the idea. If they do end up releasing a WW solo film, I wonder what other superhero they will get to make the film work as I dont see Gadot being able to carry a solo film on her own in the role. As for the classic origin, I prefer it. But in some ways the New 52 has been beneficial too because a lot of money I spent on DC product I now save because much of the New 52 product (from costume designs, to the new versions of the characters) doesnt interest me. As for the Zeus origin, well its controversial. Many WW fans were unhappy with the changes when it was announced.

But if that milk is sour it will stink up the joint.

I want some Themyscira action. Some kind of rescue/action scene set in Themyscira is what I want. Make it happen Snyder!!

I just have a lot of thoughts about how much Superman will be the focus in BvS. Makes me wonder whether the plan is just to juxtapose Cavill's Superman against the older/wiser Batman and then kill him off in the movie? And to me that isnt very interesting since Cavill's Superman needs so much work to fully realize the character.

hmm who does that sound like I wonder? :shr:

and what he'll return for the Justice League film and kick butt. oh and the only way he dies is if it involves Doomsday.

Since the reports have suggested Diana has been active in Man's land for some time, maybe Paradise Island will be seen in a quick flashback? That's about as much as I expect since I dont think WW will have alot of scenes in BvS, I think its very much a try-out role for Gadot/and for WB to gauge how audiences respond to her/the character.

And you are taking that leap how exactly? Juxtapose against an older/wiser Batman = kill off Superman.

That makes so much sense I can't believe I didn't think of it. I mean obviously they are going to kill off Cavill's Superman in this movie judging by the fact that Charles Roven didn't talk about Superman when he was asked point blank by the interviewer about Batman.

Wouldn't that be the logical leap to make after all. I also like how you are stating amazing leaps you make as facts.

As to your question of how much Superman will be the focus in BvS, none of us will know till we watch the movie. For all we know, you could be right and Superman is only in it for 10 minutes as a guest actor. But until we watch it we won't know right? So why keep bringing up points which have no basis in fact or anything else over and over and over.

Personally as a Superman fanboy, Batman fan and Batgod hater, I really don't mind Superman having to look up to Batman at all.
In fact, I kinda like the idea that the bigger guy is faaaaaaaar from the 'superior physical specimen' height is often used to reinforce.

And I really like the idea of getting a 'rough' Batman!

It's what he does. It's all he does here on the Hype.

Whilst a Superman/Doomsday fight would provide the spectacle, it would be a horrible way to end a movie with Superman dead. But if they do it, I'd like it to be done as a mystery with the body missing at the end of the movie (perhaps they could use that intro as means for Supergirl in the following movie?)

And I really like the idea of getting a 'rough' Batman!

The idea of a really rough Batman (which Roven emphasized strongly) doesnt make much sense to me since he has been said to be older/wiser. If he is that, why would he be so rough? Wouldnt that showcase a more seasoned experienced crime-fighter? As for the comments of Bruce Wayne being a much more social animal, I have mixed thoughts about that too.

What is Z saying this time? Does this have to do with a supposed "negative" reaction towards Ben Affleck playing Batman even after Gone Girl has come out?
