Battlefield 3 - Part 1

It's an arcade shooter, not a tactical or military simulator.
Those genres are almost dead.

CoD is more of an Arcade Shooter, BF3 is somewhere between that and a tactical game that tries to blend in some realism.

With that in mind the Shotguns should have a little more range. i dont expect to snipe people with them but if someone is 10-15 feet it should be an instant kill or at least heavy damage instead of taking 3-4 shots to kill someone.

Battlefield is not really realistic outside of the asthetic. As I said before, this seems to be at least, more focused on you just running around shooting people and unlocking stuff than tactics. Or strategy. Given the amount of money shoved into the game, it's understanable. The fact, which I hate but is true none the less, is that most people playing FPS, are playing Call Of Duty.

Honestly son, for all the "next generation game now". Barring the graphics (which really only look great on the pc, lets be honest) whats next generation about it? Were are the amazing creative idea's? People (myself including) whine about Call Of Duty being the same game with very little changing. Same thing is happening here. We are perpetuating and promoting stagnation pretty much.

Here's an idea...

Take Total Wars turn based map, and instead of jumping into a real time battle with thousands of units, we jump into multiplayer maps to fight over that territory. What we decide to attack and defend if based on players votes in a lobby that operates as a map simile to the total war game.

Total War Shogun 2 Campaign map trailer - YouTube

Total war isn't just called "total war" because it's real time and turn based, religion, sex, slavery, money, police states, family A trees are all used as weapons in war. Likewise with todays wars, it's not all just bang bang. Using agents like Total War would also be neat, with a single commander to operates them. Strategy is an inherent component of team games, so this implementing seems like a logical evolution to me.

But no, game doesn't even have commander mode. Run round, shoot people, unlocke stuff. Thats fun but the game could be alot more if it wanted too. It's kinda just a hybrid of Bad Company 2 and Medal Of Honor. And the "amazing pc features" are what should be pretty standard stuff. And indeed were in decade old games. This is going to sell boat loads and be hyped to dam gell but does it really deserve it? Really? If gaming is just going to be Call Of Duty or Battlefield for FPS, that's a pretty bloody sad state.

Chromehounds had all of that and more. It was ****ing awesome, but no one played it. :[

Yeah, I don't see this as a team game really either. The only way I can imagine this being a "team" is if I roll with a group of people I actually know and who are willing to work together. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of spaz soldiers running around lol.

I think the full game will play much more team-oriented like past BF games.

...yeah i dont care what you think about the game style and the state of modern FPS games, i just feel the shotgun needs more range, thats all i said.

If they opened it up for mod support gamers would probably do wonderful things without taking into account the masses at large. Battlefield 2 itself was influenced by Desert Combat, a mod for 1942. Indeed the original team were the ones who worked on Battlefield 2.

So any idea if they'll put out one more map to showcase the vehicles or is this it?

Last time a game developer agreed with that statement, we got the insane shotguns in Modern Warfare 2.

Yea shotguns deff do not need more range, they had too much in the last game. Rather them have too little range than too much.

On the other hand, that very range issue is the reason I never use shotguns in FPS games online. They're fun looking, but most of the time they're pretty damn useless.

BF3 isn't much different.

Interesting. I tend to use shotguns a lot in FPS.

Well...I guess my decision on to buy or not to buy BF3 has been decided for me. I read it won't have any LAN support...that's an instant no sale for me.

If this was 1999 when we were all on 56k I would be upset too.
But now internet speed is so fast it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I find it more fun to play with a group in the same room rather than online. LAN parties are a blast. It was the biggest reason I wanted to get the game.

Who the hell does LAN parties now? I remember doing that back for HALO, but not once have i ever wanted to go back to that.

Thats like saying you want to manually crank your car as tho it was a model T.

Are you kidding? LAN parties are freaking awesome. A bunch of people getting together IN PERSON chatting it up and playing some good PC games, no annoying online people...just the people you know in the room.

I see what you mean. I enjoyed playing in the same room alot more than over the internet. You probably can still play in the same room but it will have to use the internet. At least I think that's what Starcraft II does. All this stuff about connectivity and keeping track of stats doesn't mean much to me. I'm bummed about the lack of modding. The engine was built without it in mind. Look Counterstrike and Dota, they have extended the games magnatude well beyond the retail. Dota is basically it's own genre now.

You can do that without having to lug your crap to another persons house. Sure, its always better to be there with your friends, but its much easier just using the net. LAN parties were the s**t when we had no online, now they're just unnecessary.

No they did not, when I can make long range shots without any difficulty (especially with 1887s), there is a problem.

define long range because the only SG i know that had decent range on it was the SPAS 12. Technically the 1887 is supposed to be a rifle...

anyway Shotguns have decent range on them. i think MW2 did it well enough. I couldnt hit a guy 100 ft away and kill him but anything within 20= massive damage or dead, the way it should be.

I gotta agree with GhostPoet, Lan Parties are still the ****. There's nothing greater than being able to look your best friend in the eye as you teabag his lifeless corpse.

That's good creepypasta material right there.
