That's not exactly strange, a lot of actors don't actually watch movies. Johnny Depp famously does not even watch his own movies, and Tyler Perry did not have any clue who David Fincher was until he signed on to Gone Girl.

A lot of actors spend so much time on the set of movies that going out to watch a movie almost feels like an extension of work for them, they would much rather stay home and spend time with family than go to the theater and watch movies. Another issue for famous actors is that they can't go to a movie theater and not be mobbed by fans, so they just stay away instead.
