Snapping someone's neck is a lot more violent and jarring than pushing someone into basically limbo.

The neck snap was an desperate act with no other options. The push was when the kryptonians posed absolutely no threat and Superman could have easily taken them off the a jail. As well as doing it with a smirk on his face. If anything, thats psychopathic behaviour.

Funny thing is, Batfleck by all impressions so far seems like the far more likely guy to snap someone's neck. Especially with what's being said about him "crusty old Batman", "very very very rough".

Maybe they'll play up the dichotomy of the shining, heroic symbol of hope who crossed the line and the cynical, angry, violent vigilante who won't.

That would be reasonable. Especially given they're launching into a series of films featuring Batfleck.
