From the streets of Walford to Hollywood star; Ben Hardy has joined X-Men: Apocalypse as conflicted billionaire playboy Angel – and in Attitude’s Summer issue (available to download now and in shops this Wednesday) the 25-year-old tells us what’s in store for the character in the eagerly-anticipated superhero blockbuster.
“In terms of my character, Angel is quite angry and I put that down to him being an outsider” Ben says. “People who don’t get looked after enough can end up being very angry and I feel like this is where Angel’s anger comes from and maybe that gives him the potential to transform and become one of the villains.”
Asked whether Angel’s physical appearance plays into his feeling of alienation, Ben continues: “Yeah he can’t hide [his mutation]. I think that’s definitely a part of it. But I mean I can’t really say too much without giving away parts of the storyline, which is annoying, but I think that’s definitely part of it.
“When we first see him in the film, without saying too much, he’s in a position and a place where he’s kind of being used for his mutant powers.”
He adds: “I don’t think he necessarily starts off as a villain, but I don’t necessarily start off as good. He’s kind of neutral, I would say. I think the audience are really gonna like the transformation.”
