C. Nolan's Interstellar - Part 1

Christopher Nolan on the Internet??? That alone could be the plot for Interstellar and I'd watch it.

I just imagine it would look like this

He doesn't need a phone to use Twitter. A laptop, pc or Mac will suffice...

Nolan doesn't own a computer. Any work is done on a typewriter. :p

That's how much of a hipster Nolan is he uses a typewriter to write on the internet.

Hell, it's done mentally. All he does is think and it appears on the parchment.

That's right, modern day paper just doesn't have that same feel as papyrus.

He uses parchment? I thought he chiseled everything in stone.

I thought that whenever Nolan mentioned his Brother he was referring to his typewriter whom he named Jonathan.

Nolan should cameo as a bloke who's out of touch with the current technology of the film's universe.

You know, not a bad idea at all. Go Tarantino on us Nolan!
Let me also say that Anne has the best taste in fashion of any actress currently in the scene by far.
Full agreement. She's at it again with her visit to the Lincoln Centre wearing this pink polka dot number.

Here's the pics:

I love this pic especially with her laugh.

Papyrus? Nolan is God, you foo'. He doesn't write his words on some lowly man-made concoction; they are inscribed on stone tablets that are then delivered by his chosen messengers to those he favored from the lost tribes of the Screen Actors Guild so that they may be saved from the persecution of filmmaking mediocrity at the hands of the Hollywood Pharaohs.

:o

They need to turn her into a rock chick for Song One. But I personally think the blonde look will go better and be more memorable as a sci-fi babe. Not everyone's going to see Song One.

Newly-minted Lotus Entertainment is handling international sales. CAA has domestic.
Whatcha think? :oldrazz:

IMAX president Greg Foster says Interstellar will be the last 70mm IMAX release.
With only 10 screens remaining by the time Interstellar is released.

"When Greg Foster, president of Imax, gave me that number less than 25 "theaters" in the world, I asked him when was the last release in that format and he answered Interstellar.

Between now and that time would be about 7 or 8 releases in 70mm Imax, but among them was Jurassic Park 4 which is now is now discontinued, so you need to subtract one."

Went to check on IMAX's call transcript for Q1 2013 and found this.

Richard Gelfond - Chief Executive Officer

Moving on to our technology differentiation, we were making good progress in R&D with our laser initiative and we're on track to have a demo available at the end of this year, and production rollout starting in the second half of 2014. We're currently developing our next-generation laser projection system from the ground up, benefiting from IMAX's own intellectual property, an image quality, barcodes laser innovations, and the Laser IP we licensed from Kodak. This state-of-the-art solution will incorporate dual 4K laser technology and we expect it to deliver increased brightness and a greatest contrast in the industry, even surpassing that of IMAX films.
I hope that's what they're replacing the 15/70mm Cameras with

EDIT- More information from Rich Gelfond at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in February:

Rich Gelfond - CEO

Sure, so I've been with the company about 18 to 19 years something like that. When I got to the company all of our technology was film projectors and it was largely film projectors for very, very large screens and it was a phenomenal experience as I said mostly in the institutional niche but the problem with it was the film projectors were extremely expensive.

The size of rooms you needed was extremely expensive. So the addressable market in the world was very limited. So we really spent the good part of almost two decades, engineering down the cost of being in the IMAX business. So we figured out ways to go from film to digital, we figured out ways to go from extremely large theaters to retrofit theaters within multiplexes and those are largely the reasons for the network growth.

So the next evolution for us and I will give one tip which is quite interesting is so IMAX films was this big platters and for one copy of one 3D film, it cost $40,000 per theater. So if someone wanted to see a 3D film at the Metreon, one print was $40,000. Now it's $150. So that partly explains why the network has grown so rapidly because we sucked out a lot of cost.
So the next place we're going is using laser projection. So right now, our digital projectors used Xenon light bulbs which are terrific if you've been to an IMAX theater. You know, you would see how great the image looks but if you go to a screen like here at the Metreon, it's so large that we can’t generate the amount of light output that you need to.

So Kodak had been working on this proprietary patent for a very long time. We acquired them about 18 months ago and we've been working with Texas Instruments and Barco to design a proprietary system that can light screens up to 120 feet, maybe more than that. That also has kind of the contrast and the resolution, the quality of an IMAX film projector.

So that should be available to show people at the end of 2013 and to rollout kind of the second half of 2014. It really is going to be a game changer for these very large theatres because again they are still spending $20,000 to $40,000 per print and that’s going to go to $150. So that will drive their cost way down enable them to play more movies, enable us to get more revenues on both the film side and the studio side because there will be more revenues coming into the theatre.

Overtime, I am sure at some point we will engineer down that very large experience into a smaller experience replacing our existing digital network. But what that does is it gives us a much larger debt differentiator that exists today. So people know IMAX is really special today. But in the next five to 10 years let’s see we can be more special than it is.

IMAX tells me: "15 perf 65mm IMAX® cameras will continue to be available to our valued filmmaker partners and..."

"...Interstellar will not be the last movie to be projected in IMAX 70mm film."

Exciting... Song One sounds like a great indie project.
It does. Anne as an archaeologist who abandons her dig in Morocco. Really something different. I'm seeing it anyway but I've really got to see this.
I'm interested in what tone the movie strikes.
Anne might've been blonde for Song One and not Interstellar (assuming that the blond hair was for work which might not even be the case). Song One starts shooting May 29.
Yes, we will know soon enough.
