Here's a question: Do we have any idea roughly WHERE on the Potomac River the Triskelion is supposed to be (like how close to the White House, the Pentagon, etc...). I seem to recall them showing Long/Lat. coordinates when we first see it but a) can't remember what they are and b) that's assuming they used real coordinates and didn't just pull numbers out of thin air (which wouldn't surprise me) :oldrazz: :funny:

Well, you can see The Watergate through the glass walls of the elevator Steve is in right before the fight.

Found it.

Lat: 38N 53' 33.78"
Long: 77S 3' 38.91"

Notice they once again screwed up the longitude.

That would put it on Theodore Roosevelt Island just north of the bridge.
Awesome, thanks

This article from EW.com has tons of spoilers, so don't read if you haven't seen the movie, but it is beautifully written and well worth the read:

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' is the most political (and subversive) superhero movie ever made

Nice read

Especially struck by this point:

Redford tells Fury that they want the same thing: order. Redford argues that he is the hero, because he’s willing to flip that switch — because he’s willing to save seven billion people by killing a few million. (HYDRA in Winter Soldier is basically Ozymandias in Watchmen.) Redford asks Fury if he‘d be brave enough to flick that switch. Fury’s response, a great line in a third act filled with great lines: “I’m brave enough not to.”

This comes right around the moment when Captain America refuses to fight his best friend — poor, brainwashed Bucky, another long-way-around time traveler from the ’40s. If the 20th century left Peggy Carter as a worn-out old soldier, at least she’s better off than Bucky, an idealistic, all-American boy who became a murderous killing machine, a demonic mash-up of a PTSD-afflicted vet and a CIA superspy. In the comics, the Winter Soldier was explicitly working for the Soviets; on the big screen, he’s a HYDRA agent, which you could argue is a roundabout way of being an agent of SHIELD. Cap can’t kill Bucky, so he stops fighting, and lets Bucky pummel him. The macro- and micro-narratives of Winter Soldier both climax in the same place: A character refusing to take action, a fighter deciding not to fight.

Once Cap discharged his main duty of disabling the last helicarrier, he ceased fighting the Winter Solider. To save the world he fought; to save a friend he didn't.

One of the best dialogue exchange in the film has to be "I thought you were more than just a shield." To which Cap replies "Let's find out."

I thought there was a great metaphorical meaning to that. Lots of non-comic readers, particularly outside of the US, assume Captain America is all about American propaganda. That he stands for the government when he actually stands for the people. It's one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the character.

Going back to that line delivery, you can look at it in the literal sense, but also in the figurative sense with Cap being a SHIELD agent. The pirate may be referring to a literal shield, but the film is saying "I thought you were more than just a government dog." And since the film just started, Cap replies with "Let's find out".

In other words, "Watch this movie and you'll understand what Captain America is all about." Brilliant dialogue and execution, Russo's .

Interesting .... albeit I didn't see the scene as anything more than Batroc challenging him to fight like a man without the aid of his shield.

Yep, interesting interpretation there, Shikamaru. The dialogue really is natural and witty and can be read between the lines.

(This calls for more repeated viewings!)

I loved this movie so much. Even 4 days later, it's still on my mind :awesome:.

I believe Steve is, in fact, a Level 8 (meaning he increased 2 levels between the pilot episode of AoS and the events of CA:TWS). However, just because he's level 8 doesn't give him automatic access to all Level 8 files, he could still be individually restricted from some information (Coulson experienced this himself when he was trying to get information on his own recovery).

The "Level 6 targets" that Pierce uses I don't think is referring to what level the agents are within sSHIELD, I think it's more of a 'threat assessment' level (if that makes sense). So there could be a Level 4 Agent that's considered a Level 1 target because they're ridiculously easy to take out without even batting an eyelash (probably an exaggeration, but I hope it's a point that makes sense)

Fury is a Level 10

I agree, I believe Pierce was giving them a threat level, not a SHIELD security clearance. However, it kind of begs the question as to how Cap and BW would be considered equally dangerous?

A Level 4 for BW and a Level 6 for Cap seems more appropriate to me.

Probably what they were trying to accomplish was a level 6 threat. It also kinda fits. A level 6 can destroy SHIELD while a level 7 can destroy the planet (Loki).

Yeah I caught the double meaning of that line too. I'm sure it was intentional foreshadowing.

BTW if you haven't been watching AOS you should start with today's episode as it deals directly with the events of TWS.

I watch it. I haven't seen the new episode though (I'll see it later tonight).

A very impressive and enlightening point! Thanks for making what is already my favorite film of all time just a little more perfect.

Same here man. Saw it for the third time today and am not even beginning to feel fatigued. Even the Avengers became a bit stale by the third watch. I feel as though I can watch this movie over and over. The last time I felt about a movie like that was TDK.

Another excellent point. I was thinking purely in terms of physical threat, but like you said BW is equally dangerous when it comes to overall impact.

Agreed. It's arguably the best CBM since TDK, though I'll have to see it again and see how it holds up to The Avengers. It definitely has a better script and more depth in terms of social commentary, but Avengers still has that "wow" teamup element that fascinates me everytime.

Regardless, I think it perfectly embodies what Captain America is all about, and clears up the biggest misconception in the history of the character.

I just got out of the theater. This was a lot better than I was expecting. GREAT movie!

You telling me, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just ignited it up another notch in tonight's episode. I almost expect Baron Strucker to appear.

I think in the trailer for next week's episode, they show a glimpse of one of the [BLACKOUT]Insight Helicarriers crashing into the Triskelion from the film[/BLACKOUT] as seen on a viewscreen.
