Chapter 41 - “Eris Quod Sum” – Discussion Thread 10/27/08

Gugh. I just wish they could hit a big reset button. This season IMO is making season 2 look like genius storytelling.

You're joking right? I liked Season Two, but this season is no contest better then that.

if they hit a reset button you end up doing what every comic fan hates....retcons

I think its acceptable as this season has hit on the one thing comic fans hate even more...

THE CLONE SAGA! :wow:

shes not a clone though we could call it splitting hairs sure but they said she was a triplet not a clone.

::Hulks Out::

:bh:

SHE'S NOT A CLONE!!

lol

whichever writer it was that left the show after season 1:o
That would be Bryan Fuller. And I'd love to get him back on Heroes too, but he did go off and create a show that displays more creativity in 5 minutes than Heroes has had in its entire run, so it's hard to hold it against him. That said, Pushing Daisies' ratings are doing even worse than Heroes' right now, so you may get your wish soon.

This episode was...ok. The best part for me was Maya's departure.

I did enjoy the Elle/Claire subplot, though, and I was actually sad when Elle went running into Pinehurst in the end. I don't think she'll go through with getting rid of her powers. Hopefully Mohinder will help her out since he, ya know, owes her his life, as I recall him saying at the end of last season.

The next episode should hopefully be really good, though. I love flashback eps. Most of the time, at least. FAR more interesting than future eps, at least.

Yea of course Hiro saves the day since it is mostly his fault.

He basically gave Pinehearst the formula and Arthur Petrelli at full force.

So this is it;

Hiro makes mistake nearly destroying the world.
Hiro sees the out come of his crap and gets to redeem himself out of this.
Hiro decides not to time travle any more or he fails at life.

I don't think sylar is full baddy yet.... I think he's is trying to get in with pinehurst and get more intel on them. I think he's its a good guy, pljs come on he saved peter.

Also Sylar is the Master manipulater,I am sure he knows when he is getting played.

I liked the fire/ice aspect of Tracy and Meredith's stare down.

If Elle goes to the company and Sylar takes her power, I will be pissed :cmad:

I missed tonight's episode, can someone fill me in on what happened?

Not a bad episode tonight, but once again, it seemed we got sudden shifts in characterization in order to advance the plot.

For one thing, MohinDUH! was going all Brundlefly supposedly because he was trying to help Maya out of love, and of course she doesn't take it well considering how he wrapped her and others in a cocoon to experiment on. And of course, he's still in mad scientist mode, but now it's more because he wants to keep his powers without mutating. Whatever, he's just rationalizing and making stupid decisions like always. At least Maya, now powerless, has taken a walk off the show (FINALLY!)

Then of course, there's Sylar, who not we now learn is a legitamate Petrelli--and was almost drowned by Angela cause she saw what a psycho he'd grow up to be. And his loyalty shifts again to siding with dad. Plus, he and Peter are now no longer enemies apparently, and it seemed quite sudden that Peter now trusts Sylar, even though he knows what he did to Claire and after being thrown out a window by him (although he did prevent his fall).

Likewise, we see the drastic shifts in Elle as well, with her first acting as her "*****y" self before being "cooled off" (Lyle throwing water at her was pretty sweet) then becoming a pouting victim over being unable to control her powers, then having a bonding moment with Claire as they almost crash, then becoming the backstabbing friend as she apologizes to her by staying at Pinehurst.

But in other areas, there was some pretty good scenes. For one thing, Matt's father makes once last stand to protect his son and then is killed by Arthur, and in some ways becomes redeemed. The scene with Matt tricking Knox was also good as well, and I'm generally digging the whole Matt/Daphne story overall as we see that she's torn between a genuine like for him and wanting to save herself.

Another great moment was when Nathan and Tracy run into both HRG and Meredeth, and the total sense of awkwardness Nathan felt combined with hints of jealousy between Tracy and Meredeth.

Claire is really stepping up as somebody with some confidence (although, that scene with her treating Peter's wounds and considering how in real life the two actors are dating, made for a pretty weird vibe).

And the idea of a powerless Peter is becoming rather interesting, and it's rather in character of him to want to still fight his dad and the rest of the bad guys even without his powers. (I'm convinced that he'll probably regain them once the rumored second eclipse comes and goes later this season, in that it acts as like a "reset button" for people with abilities, at least that's what I'm thinking anyway).

Finally, I do find it strange that the African painter guy can apparently give anybody "vision quests" with his paste. Difference with Hiro, of course, is that he'll look into the past rather than the future.

I'm getting tired of Angela and Arthur throwing their sons back and forth like they're a bunch of ping pong balls. You're my favourite, no you're MY favourite, he's HER favourite. Seriously, if I was Nathan, Peter and Sylar I'd say: "f**k this drama, we're taking over the world ourselves".

I thought this episode was great.

Arthur is a friggin stud. One smack and killed Maury dead. Not to mention huge TK ability and control. I thought the way he was just holding Sylar in the air was cool.

Speaking of Sylar, those complaining about Mohinder knocking him out continue to just come off as cry babies. Suresh now has superhuman strength and agility. Sylar didn't know this. So after tossing him Im sure Sylar didn't expect the guy to jump him and use his super strength to smash his head into the concrete floor. Oh, and the fact that he is so powerful that the company's "sedatives" don't work on him is awesome. I want to see him unleash the beast on all of Pinehearst.

I was a bit annoyed by Elle and Claire. I know they seem to be fan favs, but to me they just annoy me and waste show time that could be given to others. Especially Claire. We get it ok. You heal. And you are still young enough to illicit a jailbait vibe so the cheerleader thing plays well with the male audience. Great. Now how about a better story instead of just being a sexual object.

Parkman is developing well I think. I am enjoying his side of the storyline. Still not sold on Daphne though.

Holy crap maury...oh crap peter..wow. I dont trust daphne..i wish i could:(

I just hope Elles powers go back to normal so she can go back to her "normal". It would be great if she were up against someone getting beat, her powers go back to normal and she frys them to death.

Watch it turn out to be something where those who were "given" their powers are starting to see them go on the fritz. So maybe Elle, Claire, Nathan, Tracy and such will all start to see their powers start really messing up and it will be attributed to their parents and such giving them an imperfect formula.

So the new and improved formula will be somewhat of a bittersweet thing. It would heal those with failing powers, but also end up leading to the deadly future Peter saw hen the general populace gets ahold of the powers.

Or maybe I am way off. Who knows.

I have a question. Who is the Oldest? Nathan or Gabriel? If you read War Buddies, it shows one son, not two. But, if I remember correctly, that son would have been old enough to remember a brother. I could be wrong though.

I think Nathan is easily the oldest.

Nathan, Sylar, Peter. Makes sense. They were looking for the perfect power monger. :) Nathan they gave an artificial power and raised him to get into politics. Sylar had the ability to understand powers and to take them away from people and Peter just took them instinctively. I mean Peter really is the most powerful of them all if they reactivate his powers. His father at least needs to touch his victims (although puttinh Angela in a coma may imply that he also has some form of mental control)

That makes sense. I can remember some things from when I was 3. So, I just would think that who ever was the oldest might remember having a brother. I can imagine there is at least a 3-5 year difference between Nathan and Peter. Which, if that was true, then Sylar, falling in the Middle, would be 1.5 to 2.5 years younger than Nathan.

I also wonder, if the only reason Arthur and Angela were together were for a Breeding Program. To see how far they can take it. That would make sense to me, that they think of their children as more of Science Experiments than Offspring.
