Chapter 44 - "The Eclipse, Part 1" - Discussion Thread 11/17/2008

my DVR didn't record the preview for next week, is it up anywhere yet?

Arggg this show bores me to pieces. I know everyone's already said it, but WHAT THE HELL with the eclipse? First of, and eclipse giving people powers is a bit illogical but I can let that slide. Plus I'm pretty sure eclipses come years appart. But going by this thing taking away powers, why didn't the people with powers before the season one eclipse lose their powers?? Damn I can't wait for the crappy explaination. And please stop this Hiro is ten BS. Every story revolving around Hiro has pretty much sucked after season one. I used to like his character. Hell I used to like everyone's character...except Micah...f**k Micah.

Another thing, I'm pretty sure eclipses don't show everywhere in the world, but hey it's tv right. >: (

I feel like they are doing the eclipse to save some money since they must be saving loads of money having to do no special effects.

Can't wait for the "Stop complaining, it hurts my feelings" crowd to arrive in this thread :whatever:

yo apparently my dvr missed like the last five minutes of the show....what happened after elle fixedd sylars arm

TO BE CONTINUED!

Next episode's first minute:Something happens to stop him.:whatever:

Nope. HE MISSES.

That's what I think. Hits Elle though... and Sylar continues to be the be all end all of the show... and characters still get ruined to appease his awesomeness...

sigh...

Had a few good twists in there but this was a rather slow episode. Next week better have some damn action.

But it won't have what it really needs... some dead Sylar.

I think HRG will get a phone call from his wife about Claire before he shoots one of them.

I figured all of you angry mobers would be happy that Sylar is back to a bad boy again?

Haterades? Angry mobers?

Make up your mind when attacking people that you know... actually think this show will get better.

And if you checked back, it actually made me happy that Elle was back in character... but Sylar being bad again is just more crappy writing.

or the girl, she did shot at his daughter

Sylar cut Claire's head open and stole her power. He might want to kill him first, especially because he can take down Elle whenever he wants.

Am I the only one who was bothered by how dark the episode became after the eclipse hit?

tonight was one of the better episodes of the season . i think matt is starting turning into a creep though , it's good he lost his power when he did.

I thought tonight's episode was pretty lame myself , which makes it three weeks in a row imo. However , i'm just gonna ride it out since I'm a fan of the series. Next week I'll just record it and watch it the next day so I can skip through the filler I don't like. At least Kristen Bell is cute:oldrazz:.

Claire isn't looking good in the preview for next week. Looks like she needs to make a visit to...

We need a Heroes/House episode.:oldrazz:

***** yeah we do. Mohinder needs it too. Maybe he has cancr or something and he was able to make recede but not dissapear entirely. House we need you. Lol.

Oh and I've got a question, if people keep looking at the eclipse, why aren't they goin blind. I thought that's what happened when you looked at one of those, or am I completely mistaken.

Here's to Elle and Sylar, they had some dam fine character development but next Ep will off Elle in some way. :csad:

I also liked Peter and Nathan actually getting to talk for once. Most of them time they aren't anywhere near each other, and it was refreshing to see them togethor for once.

Daphne seems to be one of the few "real" characters on the show and I love her for that. The reason she didn't want to lose her powers was pure and not just because of a sensless need for them. It gave her a chance to be normal and excel past that. Go Daphne, you're my new favorite Hero. I almost thought that instead of losing her
leg usage
That her age would be hyper-accelerated for some reason and that like half of her would be old or something. That would have been interesting, but I like where they went with it.

Thanks buddy, glad you agree. I text my friend throughout the show and he was sending stuff like "yawn" "Oh wow, boring" SO as much as I love this show it just let me down for an episode.

Man, this was a pretty dull episode. Maybe it's because we know that the loss of powers is only temporary, but it just seemed like for should be a startling moment for those with abilities not much really happened.

There were a few things that I thought were kind of good:

One was seeing that Daphne has damaged legs and is forced to use crutches when she has no powers. Which means that all the time we've seen her move around normally, she was still using her superspeed in order to walk, which I though was pretty neat twist.

Another moment which was pure geeky was when Hiro and Ando show up in another comic shop and have the two comic book guys (one of them Seth Green) see them on the cover of the Nth Wonders just as one of them is about to buy a 9th Wonders issue. So of course you know that next week there's going to be the comic book guys helping out their comic book heroes.

And we get both Peter and Nathan have the start of a real conversation regarding how they see the other--Nathan feels he's always has to be the one to help Peter because he feels he can't take care of himself, while Peter believes Nathan can be so much more than just somebody's puppet. Shows both the love and frustration they have for each other as brothers quite well.

And of course, we get "father-daughter" moment between Claire and HRG in which the later finally teaches her how to fight, or at least swing a piece of wood, and how she is always angry that her adoptive father always leaves. HRG hard-knocks character has been sorely lacking this season and at least it's somewhat brought back in this episode.

Of course, there were way too many moments that I thought were very groan worthy. I don't know about some, but the whole Sylar and Elle pairing being essentially a super-powered "Bonnie and Cylde" seemed a bit much, what with Elle clearly manipulating Sylar into "doing whatever he wanted" without having to listen to anybody just another example of how the show's once badass villian is being made into a patsy. Whatever happened to the Sylar who could manipulate others from the past two seasons? Then there's Hiro with the ten-year old mind teaching Matt about being a hero by throwing corn at him. Why are all of the sudden Matt and Hiro listening to him since he literally has the mind of child now? At least MohinDUH! has stopped turning into Brundlefly (and I bet the ladies were squelling when they saw him pop out of his web cocoon all naked) but what did he really ad to the episode? Oh, he tells us that the powers are being affected by the eclipse, which anybody watching the show could already figure out, but does he explain why? Of course not. And this guy's supposed to be a brilliant scientist? Uh huh.

Hopefully, part 2 will pick up the pace a bit, although it once again it seems like the whole "Heroes have become powerless" plot will prove to be filler and a chance for more character exploration. Not that I mind character exploration but make it interesting at least.
