Am I the only one who doesn't want to see the issues surrounding Rachel dealt with much in TDKR? I'd really like to see a Bruce who has moved on and let go of Rachel to some extent. I don't mind if there's still some pain over her loss, but I really don't want to see him emotionally crippled because he's not Batman AND because she's gone.

I really, really don't want any silly forced "eight years later, Alfred revealed the contents of Rachel's letter" drama. The execution of the romantic elements in this franchise have been one of its worst points, and I'd just like to see it done better with Catwoman and Talia VS half a movie where Bruce dwells on Rachel's role in his life.

I really don't want Rachel being brought up at all. I want his parents to be brought up, though.

I friggin hate Rachel....

Tables will be flipped courtesy of Trav if Rachel's death was all over this movie and there's zero mention of the death of the Waynes. :hehe:

I'd like to see Bruce acknowledge that he doesn't deal with loss or grief at all. I don't see the harm in Rachel's death being focused on just to hammer that point home.

I'd also like to see him admit that for all his lofty intentions of freeing Gotham from corruption, the true reason he needs Batman is because he hasn't moved on from the moment his parents died. Much like The Harvey Dent Act, Bruce becoming Batman is a band aid on a gaping wound. He needs to face up to that and move on from his own pain.

I don't necessarily think he needs to retire from Batman to do that. It's all in the execution.

I think Bruce is frozen in time because being Batman was real purpose of his life more than mourning what he lost. Now Batman is no more needed, he lost his motivation to continue.

Also i seriously don't think they'll mentioned about letter. About Rachel maybe one or two words. Parents, probably some exchange with Alfred about Wayne legacy stuff.

I think it's a guarantee that the Waynes will be brought up. To what extent, is any guess.

With all the above being said.. What will be his moment of clarity? What will happen or what will be that one thing to snap him out of his own apathy? What dramatic example must he be shown to allow him to move on... finally?

If Bruce is frozen time as they called it 8 years later, then he's still hung up about Rachel's death. I also think Bale's comment about a lot of truths and secrets coming out will include Rachel's letter.

In regards to moving on from Rachel, I would think that his interactions with Miranda/Talia, let alone the moment where they passionately kiss would be a huge landmark in his journey towards finally moving on from Rachel since I doubt that Bruce would have kissed her (Miranda) if he was still plagued by Rachel’s death.

As for moving on towards being Batman, my guess is that he’s somewhat forced to come back as Batman when Bane arrives and gets Gordon injured and that it’s only after his beating from Bane that he comes back to being Batman and being Gotham’s protector for all of the right reasons.

Miranda, Alfred, and Lucius, "try to revive Bruce's spirits" (Entertainment Weekly, April 20th issue)

Christopher Nolan said:
[Miranda] represents the hope that Bruce can be brought back to life again.

It has to. I'm just wondering when, and how Alfred will do it. Maybe it's that scene we see in the trailer where beard Bruce turns away from the camera looking all upset. Like he just found something out.

I would imagine it'll be the "I swore to them I would protect you...and I haven't" scene.

That's what I thought, too. Bale made some comment about Bruce and Alfred not communicating properly by the end of TDK. Has to be the letter he was referring to.

It seems amost as though Bruce has never made love. We can assume he has right? Well if he doesn't care I don't....I have my own sex life to worry about.

I think it's a combination of things. It's Rachel, it's Harvey, it's that he basically lost it all at the end of TDK. Whether or not Rachel will be explicitly mentioned is somewhat irrelevant, but I think a line or two will probably be given. It's only appropriate considering Bruce now has new love interests.

As far as the Waynes being mentioned, they will be. They've been mentioned in the trailers.

Am I the only one who loved Batman having a Bruce moment when he explains Catwoman how the Batpod works in the new TV spot? That little nod he does is fantastically awkward!

I said the exact same thing when I saw it. The Bruce Wayne cracked through his Batman demeanor there. I loved it.

You are not the only one. It's cool to see Bale's Bat is different situations such as this. We're going to get a wide spread of scenes. Batman being stealthy and up front bashing goons. Getting thrashed himself. Sparring with Catwoman. Fighting back at the end and iconic imagery such as the cape leap and standing on the bridge.

And I don't think it was just for the sake of the joke. I really think there's something going on after Bruce comes back from that pit.

And you can tell they've given Bale plenty of material to work with. That "Ouch" doesn't look like much, but it goes a long way from TDK Bruce.

You're not alone, I got a kick out of that too. I think Catwoman is going to bring out some of Batman's humanity in this film, in a way previously unseen in this franchise. In small doses it can work great.

Bruce and Batman are now co-existing together.

I love how dryly he said it.

Yeah, it also helps that Selina isn't scared of Batman and is just walking and talking, even throwing stuff back at him. He's met somone who is very competitive and I think he'll get a kick out of it, ala the comics.

Oh, something more: Dat cape.

And dat chemistry.
