I contend he was cast because he looks creepy, plotting, as if he's the Green Goblin personified.

Yeah, I really think he'll be the standout performance in this. And that's saying something because this is shaping up to be a film full of extraordinary performances.

Yeah stellar casts have let me down before due to a bad script. But I'm still holding out hope for TASM2 simply because a) I want it to be good and b) it's no fun being pessimistic. Hype is all about huge expectations that never get met!

I honestly don't care if Dehaan isn't as handsome as Franco. As long as the part is written and acted well and the overall story is satisfying to me then I'll be happy.

This. I don't care if he isn't exactly a "stud". He's an incredible actor and has the perfect potential to play a possible villain-in-the-making. Besides, is Harry supposed to be that good-looking? From the comics and the animated series, I recall him being more plain-looking than anything else.

He definitely looks like the comic version in that shot. The short hair, man.

The two of them definitely have physical similarities. The nose, mouth, cheekbones, forehead, eyes.

Just now I kind of definitely realized why the two of them were cast.

Dane looks fairly similar to the comic book version. In the comics he was never good looking, he had a round, odd looking face.
The James Franco version was actually more of a changed updated take on his character, but Dane looks more comic-appropriate.

Franco's Harry was pretty spot on character wise. Clueless best friend, dejected son trying to impress and live up to his father, etc...

Looks aside (Harry never had an emo skater's cut. lol), we know that this Harry Osborn will be a "womaizer" type. That right there sounds completely out of character for Harry. Strange no one complains about this, but will moan that Shailene Woodley isn't "hot" enough to be Mary Jane.

Franco's Harry was not much of a womaniser and in fact seemed to genuniely want to find a girl to love. Perhaps this Harry embraces the rich boy image and is under no disillusion that many women are interested in him for his money.

Perhaps he will be less of a downer than Franco's Harry was.

I think they just touched up on the Ultimate route and went in-depth with his wealth. If you look at the way he's portrayed in the Ultimates, he dresses as if he has money. He dresses unlike other high schoolers.

I guess the womanizer thing just goes with going in-depth with the wealth part. I don't have much of a problem with it. It kind of opposites Peter's character.
