Dat fathers day bump.
Such a good bump, I guess all the Dad's wanted to go watch this or Edge of Tomorrow yesterday. This keeps hopes of $225M alive.
Fault of Our Stars drop was absolutely horrible but not surprising considering it's the type of film fans/young women rush out to see. It didn't matter how good it's reception was.
Days of Future Past will pass The Dark World today.
So it's Thor2 now, X2 unadjusted soon, and what's after that? Domestically not getting near Cap2. X3 unadjusted is a little too far, but I guess that's the next "target".
The fact that Thor 3 is coming after Captain America 3 speaks volumes. I think Marvel will try and do better. I do not think that these studios just ignore complaints about films with mixed receptions, they can't afford to.Good, because I didn't think Thor Dark World was anything special. I do hope Marvel does a better job for Thor 3.

Well I disagree with you.
This is the first time in 8 years that a X-Men film outgrossed its predecessors in the United States. From $134 million to $205 million and counting is a great increase. DOFP also had competition from Godzilla, TASM2 and Malificent. If we had more low-key films this May and films that don't gross over 50 million every weekend, DOFP's gross would be so much higher. X3 didn't have much competition in 2006 and its opening weekend was the 2nd highest grossing opening weekend of 2006. While DOFP is only 4th and I'm sure its placement will go down later this year.
And there's just no way DOFP would earn $300 million especially given the last 3 X-Men movies didn't even cross $200 million.

Sadly, looking to drop over a 1045 theaters this week..
PS. anyone using the phrase 'a lock' in this thread needs to be shot.
I just used that word for your information.A lot of the movies are under performing in North America this summer. DOFP is one of them.
The box office of these movies are being "saved" by their OS gross. (I don't know why this is so hard to comprehend?)
Try and refute that.
And if it doesn't the X-Men franchise isn't going strong?
CAP2 was well received and was financially successful. It'd be great to top it but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't.

Yeah, I can see how all that talk about box office results in my post might have seemed out of place in the box office thread.Nearly everything about this post suggests that the box office thread probably isn't the best place for you.

DOFP wouldn't "underperform" in the U.S. if it had a big lead in movie for the past 3 years, and guess what, we had a $146 million grossing X-film in 2011 and a $134 million grossing X-film in 2013. What did you expect after that? $300 million in U.S. alone?
You just don't drop a big film and expect huge numbers when the last few films didn't even perform that great in the first place.
The important thing here is there's an increase in the United States and Fox should be smart on how they are gonna keep that momentum in the next X-Men films.
With a budget that's on par with its current domestic haul, I'm sure Fox executives are NOT jumping up and down. They expected more return from their investment especially since they get a lot more percentage back from domestic.
What's in contention here is that from marvelrobbins' initial post, ONLY Spidey 2's "butt" is being saved by Overseas numbers. That's simply untrue. DOFP is being saved too.
