The Me Too Movement: The Sexual Harassment and Assault Thread

Finally! That article has been rumored about forever.

Open letter in support of James Gunn signed by Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Michael Rooker:

they waited 10 days to meet with lawyers and agents to make sure they can not get fired. ;) Plus maybe disney told them to realese this. Its in the studios interest that the actors look like the good guys here.

I think Disney needs to just admit they were too hasty and hire him back. Let Gunn finish the trilogy and move on on his own terms.

Kevin Feige should lend his voice too. Guess he’s too afraid of Disney.

For them to "admit" that they would actually have to feel that way. We have no indication that is the case.

A well known Senator was beginning to take this up, asking for Gunn to be criminally investigated. There is no way Disney is going to risk their deal by bringing back Gunn.

Gunn has a lot of enemies within the conservative party. They're not gonna let it just die down.

Yeah, Ted frikkin Cruz, the one Republican even Republicans hate. I think Disney will be fine.

Also, the deal be done.

Disney don't want no smoke.

:funny: The GOP just tried to get a pedophile and a rapist elected. Their hypocrisy is astounding.

What deal does Disney have with the GOP that Gunn could put at risk?

Id laugh my ass off if they ever find child porn on James Gunn's computer.

Even if evidence is found later it wont make them wrong or foolish for defending him now. As of now there is zero evidence pointing to any sort of crime. Cant blame them for defending Gunn when there is zero evidence of any sort of crime.

Last Week Tonight did a rather fantastic segement on the subject in general this week. I can't post it because of language, but its called Workplace Sexual Harassment and is available on YT. A great comparison to what happened in the 90s and Anita Hill. How we have had this "revolution" before, and even still look where we find ourselves. It takes a good look at how men see this situation (what feels like on the whole mainly concern for themselves), the same attacks of women coming forward (the use of a woman scorned, a gold digger, doing it to become famous, why do they let it keep happening, etc.) still being used, how women are conditioned to not come forward, to not be one of those women, because they branded as such a woman. One those spoils things. Another part about the concept of intent and if that means it didn't happen.

The whole thing is pretty great, but I think this sums up the general reaction from men and why progress is so slow.

Oliver: We have seen a lot of men saying they're absolutely terrified to be alone with a woman now. Should they be scared?

Hill: Not if they're not harassers.

Oliver: Right. It's literally that simple.

Hill: Yeah, if you are a harasser you should be terrified and you should stop, not do that. You know the whole idea of false claims is something it is another one of those roadblocks that people throw out, well that really hasn't manifested itself. That doesn't mean that it never happens but they're so rare and it seems to me that we don't need to make rules around the things that rarely happen until we've finished up making the rules around the things that are happening regularly.

Oh if only it was that simple. Its like saying, "If you've done nothing wrong you shouldnt mind the government spying on your phone calls and texts and watching you."

It ignores the reality that innocent people are wrongfully accused and abused by the law. It ignores the reality that women do falsely accuse men of rape and assault. I'm sure it happens in homosexual relationships as well. I've decided one night stands arent worth it. Why risk some girl turning out to be a petty ***** or some crazy person that accuses me of hurting her or forcing myself on her?

Why did you have to write it like that? I mean don't do one night stands, cool. But a petty whatever you wrote. Why?

How is there to be any movement against sexual harassment and sexual assault in any real way, if we do nothing to change how we handle in a substantial way? Is the answer that women just need to live with it and if so, what does that say about society? Women are lesser? They lie with regularity? They are too sensitive?

How do you stop this, if culture feeds into this:
[YT]RmdTKYhgjn4[/YT]

That is what happens with far more regularity. But society seems to speak of women as petty... well what you said. Why?

If a woman or man falsely accuses someone of rape, then yes they are a petty *****/bastard. They're actually quite a bit worse than those tiny curse words.

The issue becomes when women in general are seen like that, as the becomes the first instinct. To assume they are lying whatever. Its a general treatment of women that has led is to this.

And as we already know, false accusations are rare. But real accusations are not. A woman in Paris got slapped by a man that she told to shut up because he was harassing her. Let's deal with that **** first.

I don't buy this fear of sleeping with or being alone with women in case you get accused. What exactly is the solution to that problem?
