Don't Hate The Hater, Hate The Hate! - - - - Part 16

I hate this trend of giving kids who aren't even in middle school yet cell phones. If they take buses and stuff to school or whatever, sure. But I am baffled when parents give 10 or 11 year olds cell phones. For example, my brother's friend downstairs has a brand new Samsung Galaxy S4. And he's in Grade 4. Just....no.

Same here. My niece and nephew are 8 and 11 respectively (soon to be 9 and 12) and they both have their own ipods, my niece has a kindle, and my nephew using both an iPad and iPad mini that belongs to my brother, and it pisses me off so much. It's okay to give your kids nice stuff, but at this point, I feel like the rate of escalation is too high. Bad enough they both get at least 10 gifts each for Christmas, but I feel like that kind of behavior hurts children because it teaches them that mommy and daddy will get them whatever they want no matter how they behave or what the price is. Like I just got my first iphone and I'm trying to be really careful with it, but they take their dad's phone and mess around with it and they don't seem to understand how to take care of expensive things.

I say if the parents don't go broke giving them out, I don't see the problem with giving kids iPods and Kindles. The whole purpose of an eReader is to condense a bunch of books down into a single device, and anyone who's ever had a Walkman has no room to talk about kids owning iPods.

I agree about the cell phone bit for kids. I got my first cell phone in the 10th grade and it was that Nokia brick. I had to work for it and buy it myself. Now kids just get iphones and all this super fancy tech just by stomping their feet. My neices and nephews are spoiled rotten with all that. Drives me crazy.

The thing is, its one thing to use a device like that for a child to help them learn things easier, and another to give it to them to keep them quiet. Like my niece uses her kindle to watch shows like The Vampire Diaries on the go, as opposed to going outside and getting some exercise or having fun in a park. I mean, I feel like the downside of technology is that its already tried to simplify our lives to the extent that we no longer have to do anything for ourselves, because everything is the touch of a button away. So to see that kids are being taught to live that way at an early age is just not a good idea because its re-enforcing bad habits sooner so that they seem normal.

That's what I mean. Its like the value of hard work has lost its worth and there are no signs that things will get better anytime soon. It also makes me wonder how I want to raise kids when I have some of my own, and how I want them to grow and develop.

I always enjoyed and cared for things I bought myself more than stuff that was just handed to me. My sister and I are just two years apart (she being younger) and somehow she has no interest in earning anything. She wanted an iphone so she threw a tantrum until somebody bought her an iphone. She wanted a new car so she got pissy until my Dad signed on a new car for her. That car now needs repairs so instead of saving up the money to get the car fixed, she went and tried to trade it in and buy a new one. It boggles my mind. I hate that I'm living a very low-key life trying to save and build a better life while my sister and so many like her throw tantrums until they get the life they want handed to them.

You know, I've never really believed the arguments that electronics are keeping kids from going outside and playing. If a kid is going to watch shows on their device, they'd probably just sit in front of the actual TV if you took it away. I didn't have a cellphone, a Kindle, an iPod Touch, or a PC in my home back when I was a kid during the 90's. I didn't spend all my spare time outside. I watched every movie we had on VHS and a lot of first-run syndicated TV shows.

Yeah, like I'm looking at 4-6 months from now when the PS4 comes out, and I'm realizing that I need to get a job if I want to get it. This is the first time I am not relying on my mom or my brother to buy me a console, but its kind of hard since I never had a job growing up, which I regret. But its like they say, you appreciate the things that you work hard for more because you see the effort that goes into getting it.

I guess what I meant to say is not necessarily going out and doing things, but rather trying to do something else productive, whether it be reading, writing or something else constructive with your time. I'm in no way saying technology is evil or something, but I do think it acts as a distraction, especially now that we have so many handheld stuff to take with us anywhere. I feel like parents use these things now to do that, to distract their kids so that they don't bother them while they do their own things, and I see this all the time with my brother's kids. Their kids don't really have any hobbies other than staying glued to whatever device is in their hands, and it just makes me wonder if we've reached a point where there's just too much out there to the point where we can't help but be held back a bit by technology.

I hate jump scares in horror movies. A film can be scary without making the speakers on my TV explode. It's stupid.

That's one of the reasons I hate most horror movies. Most of them are terrible, and a lot of them rely too much fake jump scares by amping up the volume than actual horrific images.

Exactly. There's no spooky atmosphere or actual feelings of dread or fear, it's just quick loud noises. It makes me say the "F" word.

That's one of the reasons why Romero's movies are amazing. Even though they're old they don't rely on jump scares at all. It's all about tension and dread with some moments of pure horror added in.

I hate when people get upset at comic book movies for not following the comics 100% and claim that a writer/director butchered a character just because they didn't do what they'd expect them to do.

I hate that the closest theater that's getting much ado about nothing is out in the middle of bumblef*** where the latest screening is 8.

pretty much any film based on something ie book, comic, etc

I hate how long it's taking my college to review my financial aid forms. My entire ****ing future is in limbo because of this ****. If they deny my financial aid, I don't get to go to school. I don't think they will deny it, but it's a small school and it shouldn't take a month for some pencil pusher to just look over some ****ing papers. It's also annoying to me that the school doesn't believe that I'm as poor as I am. They want me to prove that I can, in fact, exist on what little money I have. They insist that someone else is paying all my bills for me (which couldn't be further from the truth). Bureaucracy is a cancer.

If it's a small school, can you go over to the financial aid office in person and bug them yourself?

My school was so small, we registered in person. :funny: I had friends who dealt with the financial aid office themselves.

I hate how my arms are still so breakable-looking. :argh: Can I get a wrist transplant or something?

Tell me about it. I've been waiting 11 months for Canadian Immigration to approve my permanent residency. "Limbo" is the exact term I use, I cannot work, study, etc. I'm confident I'll receive approval, but after nearly a full year of waiting I'm practically climbing the walls.

I really really hate dogs
One barked at me in anger when I shivered as I saw it suddenly standing by me
The good thing about that dog is one strict "Shut Up" was enough to keep it's @## shut

I like cats, not very much as pets

I hate that I have to go back to work tomorrow.

And mainly because they have a bunch of incompetent and lazy punks doing my work while I was gone, which means that I have make up for anything they may have messed up.

It's a small school, but it's also about 200 miles away. I'm supposed to move up there to attend that school, but that is all up in the air because I don't know that I'll have the financial aid to go. It's infuriating.

Keep bugging them about it.

If you just sit and wait, they'll just let it slide because there's always something 'more important' for them to deal with.

You have to keep harassing people to make sure they get things done.
