Man just 3 more weeks. Luckily there's X-Men, Nice Guys, Money Monster and TMNT 2 to keep me excited. Just a shame both Neon Demon and Warcraft are coming the same weekend, I don't think my heart can take it.

Carter also kind of missed the bus - before I knew about the stories, I assumed Disney had ripped off Genosis and the Genosians. Surprised to say, it turns out Lucas mined those elements from ERB - the desert like setting, the gangly green aliens and made them his own.

Really looking forward to this now. I can forgive some questionable CGI if I'm invested in the characters & world.

Within the space of 5 days I have this & The Nice Guys.:woot: Good week ahead.

Also, someone on another forum pointed out how in the interviews Fimmel looks like a young Ron Swanson, and he f****** does! :funny: 29 seconds in that video.

OK, I linked to the video before actually watching it myself (:funny:), who's the woman supposed to be that's speaking at the 1:57-1:58 mark saying the "Trust in your friend..." line (she's shown briefly, wearing a hood/cloak)??

I think it's Khadgar's mother.

CGI looks absolutely incredible in those latest featurettes, even with the crappy Youtube quality.

Budget is only 100 M, this is going to make some serious bank overseas.
The budget is not only 100m.

I seriously doubt that the budget is only 100 million. Wouldn't surprise me if we find out that the budget is like 175 million.

All we know is that it is over 100m. But considering the amount of sfx, yeah I don't think it is any less then 150m. I really do get a Pacific Rim vibe from this in that regard.

And the marketing expenses.

I don't like to include marketing in budget. It is definitely a hefty expense, but no what we are talking about here. But yes, that is another cool 100m at least.

Does marketing costs not come out of the box office profits?

Depends on corporate sponsorship and such. Like a movie like Civil War or BvS has a lot of its marketing covered by those relationships. But I can't imagine Warcraft is making big bank off Hostess or Sears.

Reading people's opinions on the film. Doesn't look like critics will like it (not a big surprise here). Visuals and production - the most praised thing (surprisingly, since trailers don't really impress with visuals). Compared to the best examples of recent, like DotPotA. The story seems to be confusing for those unfamiliar with the games. And cliched at times. Action is brutal and well-staged (good stuff!). Orcs are praised. Garona is criticized (if you didn't like her in the trailers, you won't like her in the film either). As well as other human actors. Some cringy dialogs here and there, stupid romance subplot...

There's an embargo, and we're just speculating, but not forming actual opinions.

Unless you can link what tweets I've seen. The only 'review' Ive seen was from reddit and it wasn't negative. He gave it an 8 or a 9 though he had some issues with it.

It's some people from internet, who claim they saw the film and express their opinions. I'm not trying to stir anything. I haven't watched the film yet and I don't have an opinion. All I can say I will be watching it next Thursday.

What a tough to translate to film, IF the movie isn't well liked. I mean, there are dense movies and TV shows, like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, but I wonder if Warcraft was a book series in an alt universe, if it would've been easier to adapt? Because with a game series, it just...sprawls...endlessly..sometimes with no endgame. And with no real main leads, it's tough to condense.

I wonder if Warcraft would've worked better as a series (as expensive as it would be)..I wonder if Starcraft would be easier to adapt?

I don't really understand how a primitive thing like Warcraft can be confusing... Also, about main leads. WC 1-3 had main leads.

I think you can definitely put all important things from the WarCraft games into the film. This is about the beginning, the first time Orcs and Humans met and why. How does that differ from any other story?

Warcraft has had countless books, comics and whatnot that have enhanced the world and the story was pretty straightforward, good but simple in the first three games.

It's when it became a MMO that it started doing retcons and the rule of cool (that was always there) became the deciding factor over story and progression.

Looking at the tweets, here is what I am getting. It is primitive, in that it is super cliched. The problem of confusion probably comes with the crap ton of names and words for things that probably aren't explained indepth. And well if you don't care, you start zoning out and things get confusing. Batman v. Superman isn't confusing. But it is so boring that people just lose track of what is going on because they don't care.

Seems like the problem is that it doesn't differ from other stories.
