I hope Jurassic World makes Marvel rethink their opening weekend strategy. I always hated how international gets it before North America. Their movies should all open on the same date.

Of course it could be worse..
We could be Japan....Yikes!!!!
But I agree they should open WW the same day when possible...

I read when the Sunday totals are finalized JW may actually overtake A1's OW record.

I had no idea the movie would open this big didn't seem that good really. Also it didn't have the multi-year multi-film lead up that the first Avengers had.

It seems people are still into the Jurassic Series, I watched it yesterday and the theater was packed. Also the movie wasn't too bad it was your typical fun blockbuster movie. Avengers still did really good.

Creatively they do, Business wise Marvel don't need to rethink a damned thing, there isn't a single waft of failure in AOU numbers other than failing to meet the near impossible order of beating the biggest opening of all time. Sure it's a little surprising that what some people were predicting to be the star wars episode 7 beater is likely to get outgrossed by two non-star wars flicks this summer but anyone who thinks that 1.3 million intake at the box office is going to get Marvel to "rethink" needs to reset their standards of failure a little bit when talking about Disney/Marvel.

I have a feeling Avengers will be this decade's Harry Potter, as the franchise many kids will grow up with, will also keep making a lead of money and be one of the most popular and iconic franchises around, but just like films such as Return of the king, spider-man and avatar kept defeating Harry potter and not letting it be number one in various years, the same might happen with Avengers, as it had many chances to be number one but keeps competing with surprise giants.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron added $2m from 41 for $1.362bn after eight weekends. China generated $235.5m by the end of its run.

I guess AOU is analogous to TDKR in terms of its box office legacy. Both were predicted to be the clear top grossers of their respective years. But AOU, like TDKR before it, may even end up at number three.

If AoU makes under $1.4bn then 86% of the votes on this poll over-estimated their box office prediction.

One thing the JW team need to be proud of is their marketing campaign for this movie. Did anyone see the Raptor display at Waterloo station in London? Nice! The posters for JW were also better than AoU's (imo). The Ant Man marketing campaign looks good though so maybe Marvel were a bit to relaxed about AoU and took its success for granted?

I found AoU's marketing campaign awful, those posters were probably the worst ones of any MCU movie.

Not the best comparison.

Mockinjay pt. 1 was preceded by the peak of the franchise.

Infinity War pt. 1 will be preceded by a weak entry. There will be room for growth.

I think it will beat them both.

It's doing extremely well in the US and China and had one of the biggest global OW ever.
