I don't really see how DOFP's success or failure would impact this film's production. If they were filming Apocalypse here or something sure, but I can't imagine an entirely different project would be effected.

Consider that it might not be purely rational. If Fox is waiting on DOFP, it might well be so they can point to DOFP to justify *whatever it is they planned to do anyway*. If they want to cancel it, a successful DOFP means "we should focus on the X-Men money", a failed DOFP means "the audience isn't there for an even less popular property." If they want to push it forward, the reverse is true. The fact that none of this is rational doesn't change that being able to point at something for evidence would help make the decision easier to advance.

Double wow......so, what do we have now; grounded, different, dark, no costumes, no 'rocky' thing, and low budget with a bad cast? People are just lining up for this one.....cause they'll just see it anyway.

Just.....why????

... I really loved Josh Trank's take on it, and I'm a fan of his last film, 'Chronicle,' which was like an anti-superhero movie -- really dark, which is what I like. I like things that are rooted in reality and that are dark and not what you expect. And I think that that's probably what 'Fantastic Four' will be.
No respect for the source material.

Mara's comments are left, Fantastic Four is right.

Yeah, you may very well be right. I still can't get confirmation from anyone at the studio that they've filmed a single frame.

Dr. Doom, the telepathic scientist-mystic???

I'm not saying he's never used telepathy of some sort. But it's definitely not a term I'd use if I had to describe him in three words.

I could see this being an entertaining film but not the best representation of the sorce material. Sort of like Batman Returns.

I don't know how anyone could possibly have a problem with this project with all the words spoken by those involved.

The amazing thing is nobody can manage to say anything right. You'd think just strings of random words would, coincidentally, hit a couple right ones along the way. But this almost seems a concerted effort to make this sound as bad as possible.:csad:

When did Mara do that interview? I noticed the line

And I think that that's probably what 'Fantastic Four' will be.
"Probably" as in she still doesn't know.

To be fair, she wont know until she sees the final version, when its all said and done; Mara knows what Trank's vision is and that the end product will 'probably' be like that vision. Key thing here for me is that she basically confirms that Tranks take is deviating massively from what the FF is all about.

I'd have thought she must have at least read the script by now, so if she still 'doesn't know' I don't know what to say about that.

Maybe they are being honest. It is quite possible that Mara isn't very familiar with the source material. And well, I'd rather Kinberg be honest with their intentions.

I think this is the case. When we just had one or two statements indicating this wouldn't be anything like FF, I held out hope that those particular interpretations could just be off. But I think we're getting overwhelming evidence now that the intention is to make a film that won't capture the spirit of the Fantastic Four.

Their intention is to make Chronicle 2...... but with F4 characters.

So apparently, Kate Mara is in New York.

Take from that what you will.

It probably wouldn't be unusual for an actress to pop up to New York for a day or two during production since many scenes won't include her.

What does seem extremely unusual is the complete lack of information on a project that, according to reports, began filming yesterday.

Compare to all the news we got around the April 15, 2013 start date for Fox's other Marvel franchise:

And those are just the stories that were specifically posted on SHH. There were a lot of other things going on and reported that didn't get reported as a main story here.

Could Ms. Mara and her cast mates time in Baton Rouge have been spent on script run throughs, CGI tests, costume fittings and the like? Actual filming of the much anticipated FFINO may still be months away.

That certainly sounds reasonable. Most productions would do that well in advance of actual production.

But that contradicts Kinberg's comment that filming would start this week plus the newspaper report that yesterday was the official start of production.

Kinberg's comment is what convinced me this was really happening. I think it's highly irrational to get my hopes up at this point, but now that the date has come . . . and things may be happening . . . but they don't seem to be in the active production he said would happen, I have to wonder if his statement was as meaningful as it seemed in my mind at the time.

If they did stealth postpone the actual filming (possibly doing CG scans and fittings rather than actually shooting a scene), it's possible that Fox really is waiting on X-Men to see if they really want to go through with this. I have to imagine they're a bit nervous about doing non MCU Marvel movies after the reception to TASM2. It may not be a bad idea to see how DoFP does, both critically and financially. Don't get your hopes up, though.

Thats what I think too, I think this is all preliminary photography and not principal. Just enough time to see how X-men does and make a final decision.
