Fantastic Four reborn! - - - - - - - Part 16

Both F4 and Ant-Man are controversial projects with production issues and have both made changes from the source material. They're equal

One of the two is:

1) A reboot of a critically panned duology in which the sequel experienced a near 13% drop off from the first film.
2) Devoid of box office draws.
3) Low budget for a DC or Marvel release.
4) Not part of a wildly successful cinematic universe.
5) Not teased in the post credit scene of the summer box office champion.
6) Not promoted with tie in merchandise.

The two films are hardly equals.

Apparently it's been pushed back to August 2015

It has.

The weekend it's on is the same weekend that TMNT hit this year... if Fox wanted to ape the strategy Disney emulated for GOTG, it would've moved to July 31st instead. But then that's two weeks after Ant-Man...

I still don't know about this reboot. Most of the casting hasn't won me over, but maybe Fox has confidence in its playability (hence the move from a crowded June). So maybe it'll be a decent pic, but I doubt it with Teller and Jordan on board...

Shame about the move, I was all set to enjoy the massacre and finally getting this mess over with.

Well if the trailers turn out to be as cheap and floptastic as expected, it could still have a chance of flopping, though it won't be as easy now.

Wow.

Still think that's a bad date. Will people even care after AoU and Ant-Man?

They cared about Guardians after Cap and X-Men and Spider-Man

Given the output of CBMs recently 2015 is quite dry so with that in mind it should attract a few more to fill the void left by the lack of others

2014 had four Marvel/DCCU movies. And a bunch of others
2015 has three Marvel, not sure about others.
2016 has five Marvel/DC movies :D

Great release date. August next year is weak. It should dominate the month especially overseas. So I'm guessing no trailer until March next year.

I know right? Had my pop corn ready and everything. :o

Should onto that for a little while yet, lol :cwink:

The new slot is a lot better for them (going up against Pixar always seemed like suicide), but I aint sure even going against lesser competition is enough to bring this the money Fox would be hoping for.

I always suspected the June date was a ruse - designed to try to put more pressure on Marvel/Disney. I expected we would see a move, I just thought it would happen earlier - like a few months ago when it seemed clear Marvel wasn't going to offer anything.

I always had a feeling Fox would move! So yay! But :( for the longer wait!

Hmm. I don't know about that. I think its a genius move to scrape a couple mil from a unsuspecting GA for a low budget film. I want this train wreck over with so 2 additional months of negativity. Smh.

Oh lord, of course they will

You are completely right. Sadly bias will not allow some to admit it. I would argue ANT-Man has had more production issues.

Well, I would say Fantastic Four, is a sliiiiightly more important property than Ant Man. Hardly a comparison. And Ant-Man has gotten plenty of ridicule by the way. The only difference is the studio making it has sated the appetites of the productions followers with actual information/images.

Maybe this guys know something on the delay .

on FANTASTIC FOUR.. things I've heard include a lot of off-world stuff.. massive amount of special effects, more than past X-MEN films..

the average person doesn't understand how much Trank's reboot is going to be set in outer space...amount of green screen is dead give away

FANTASTIC FOUR's release move is due to three things..capitalizing on GOTG's August success, more post-production time and SDCC15

Massive amounts of special effects more than past the X-men films?:funny: I don't believe that.:whatever:

This movie has a much bigger budget than all the X-Men films put together. :o

It will make GOTG look like 80s computer graphics. :o

I don't know who is this guy but i just see Jeff Sneider film Reporter for TheWrap ( he seems to know a lot on F4 production) know him and retweet some of his tweet .
So who know .

The more I think about, the more I believe the edgy outer space, sci-fi thriller is their best bet. Capitalize on the likes of Gravity and Interstellar. How else do they expect to distinguish themselves from the MCU and Marvel movies? They need a sharp, contrasting tone to GotG. I could see Trank/Fox trying to make this the edgy, sci-fi thriller, similar to Apes but in space, eventually incorporating some cosmic elements. GotG is probably too over the top and terms of tone and family friendliness. That's not what Fox needs to go for. I think that is what lured Fox to Trank and that is ultimately what Trank and the producers are going to sell to the public. They are not making the formulaic CMB here. My only concern is will they distinguish themselves enough from Ant-Man? We know Ant-Man will have a lot of comedy, but it is also a grounded, dramatic, heist film. So I wonder how similar the two will be tonally, and how Fox plans to distinguish themselves from the MCU, even though the film may be branded similarly to an MCU movie as a marketing ploy.

I think they are just guessing tbh. The reason on why Fox have gone for the later release date has already been speculated here, and the green screen?

Well, we've only seen 3 bts shots. All green screen yes, but that's it. 3. Hardly a torrent of stuff to go by, so I wouldn't go leaping to an assumption much of this takes place in 'outer space' from that atm.

And from earlier accounts a few of the script rewrites were to cut the budget as Fox don't want to bet the farm on this thing?

Maybe they are spending big after all, but I woudln't count on it at the moment. Time will tell I guess.

Like i said, i find thoses quotes interesting because the guy seems to know Jeff Sneider film reporter for TheWrap. But, we know nothing more now .

I'd be surprised if it's set in outer space. Kinberg has been very careful to avoid using the word 'space' and a previous synopsis that mentioned space has since been replaced by this current official synopsis:

The Fantastic Four have captivated comic book readers since their 1961 debut in Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four #1, created by Marvel legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This contemporary update focuses on the characters as young men and women, idealistic adventurers who make a headstrong leap into the unknown, only to find the journey has altered their physical forms in shocking ways, leaving the collective course of their lives irrevocably upended.

Everything we've seen so far has been consistent with UFF, and the early UFF books featured Moleman's Subterranea. I suspect much of this film will be set in Subterranea and they'll use digital sets for that.

Are the FF going to be battling Mummy Doom and the Mole Man in space? I think that the heavy green screen means "we didn't want to invest in practical sets", not "thrilling outer space action".
