Fantastic Four reborn! - Part 3

I'm not really clear on the Negative Zone giving them their powers. Does it give everyone powers who goes there? I thought the explanation in the Ultimate comics was pretty laughable. That said, an accidental Negative Zone opening/vacuum effect easily explains how Sue and Johnny are there.

I mean, obviously Dr. Doom doesn't tie into the origin. I think Mole Man, having his clay/experiment turned into living stuff, or Wizard (with his latest mental breakdown) could make for great villains who are part of the operation... and then aren't.

It's very interesting to see this discussion as it rolls out. It looks like we all kind of have our pet ideas.

I think that some sort of energy storm in the Negative Zone can give powers the same way an energy storm in space would.

I was suggesting the Negative Zone as a plot device to explain away Reed's genius, the FF's origin, and the villain's origin all in one shot without having to send them to space.

Johnny and Sue would have to be modified somewhat for the two to plausibly go to space.

Plus, it's a way to distance themselves from the previous franchise.

It is, and it's a good plot device. I just don't like it because it's different. :)

I can see it now. (I can actually see two ways to work it.)
They could get their powers from a burst of "cosmic ray" energy from the device that they think didn't work in opening the portal.
Or they get their powers from a "Cosmic Ray" energy storm when they walk through the portal (like in Stargate) and into the Negative Zone.
I see Annihilus and his army being fought in both the Negative Zone and in regular Earth reality. And I could see it working with the Negative Zone battle coming first or the Earth battle coming first. I could see it come down to Reed versus Annihilus and Thing versus Blastaar.
I wouldn't object to the movie using the Ultimate FF origin for the movie origin.
Maybe the experiment funding was cut so Reed has to sneak onto base to finish it, or maybe its funded and Reed and the others do it with government help.

the reason for their powers in the ult comics wasn't the N zone it was the having their bodies ripped apart and then put back together again. Only they weren't put back the way they were before.

Oh, I had to drop it for financial reasons, so I never finished it. But in the movie it could mix the two. The cosmic rays could give them powers like in the comic, but come from or be caused by the Negative Zone. And I guess if they wanted to get more technical they could also mention the ripping their bodies apart and putting it back together thing too. (because thats pretty cool.)

An option: steal from Planetary, and say that passing through the N-Zone Portal prototype dissolved their bodies at the quantum level, and only Reed's incredible genius was able to allow them to reassemble their bodies from cosmic chaos into something basically human.

I prefer cosmic rays. Short, succinct, to the point. Reed and co. could be the first private space astronauts to go deep into the solar system. Or something.

So much potential in an FF series. Especially if Marvel Studios can obtain the rights.

The Fantastic Four by J.J. Abrams

Cast
Reed Richards=Jon Hamm(I know he's used a lot in these things but I can't think of anyone that could do a better Reed than him)'
Sue Storm-Richards=
Johnny Storm=Chris Pine
Ben Grimm=Jon Bernthal(Thanks to Brian2887 for this one

The costumes would have to be the classic ones.

Doom would be in the sequel but I think the Inhumans could make for an incredible story in the first one.

While I would LOVE to see the Inhumans in an FF movie, they may be too much for a first or reboot of the FF - especially if you are retelling the FF's origin and then having to introduce this other race of super beings - lot of ground to cover in one film. I would much rather follow the template set by Lee & Kirby, introduce Medusa with the Frightful Four and then the Inhumans in a sequel.

Yeah, but they would work in a sequel really well. The FF reboot should have about 4 movies. The first doesn't have to be an origin, but it does have to reintroduce the team and the concepts to the audience who only know of them from the previous movies (you have to assume). So while maybe no origin is shown, you have to refer to it and maybe show flashbacks and a quick origin in the credits, and sort of a synopsis of what happened to them and how they got to where they are now. That could be the entire first movie, or it could be all done in the opening credits-1st half of the movie.
The first movie should still be an amazingly fantastic adventure.
The second film could introduce the Inhumans, and I would like it to include the Kree (who are discovered to be behind the Inhumans' creation by way of experiments) and then its discovered the Celestials are behind the creation of the Kree. Movie could include Ronin the Accuser and the Supreme Intelligence. It seems like a lot but it could all be done in one grand scale movie, and have it star the FF who would be doing much more than just witnessing all this. But thats just my idea, I'd still say the Inhumans would work in a sequel no matter what the story.
Even if the story is nothing more than the FF crashing in Inhuman territory and are framed by Maximus for an assassination attempt on Blackbolt's life. Then the FF and the Inhumans fight, then team up to stop the usurper of the throne and his army of traitors. And the Inhumans would then spin off into their own movie leaving the FF to their own movies.
The other 2 films could be about anything, but should maybe have a continuing story arc like Spider-Man did with Harry. Maybe it could be how the FF are bringing mankind/Earth into a new stage of progression. Taking mankind into the stars and bringing aliens to Earth, maybe ending in the last movie FF 4, with the FF saving all of Earth and hinting at continuing adventures off camera.

Another villain the FF could find, not necessarily fight, could be the High Evolutionary.
They can travel into the Negative Zone and fight Annihilus and Blastaar.
They can travel into space and fight the Skrulls and the Super Skrull.
They can stay on Earth travel to Monster Island and fight the Mole Man and his creatures.
They can fight super scientists who might take mankind into darkness with their research/experiments/technology like the Red Ghost, Wizard, the Mad Thinker, and Diablo.
They could time travel back in time and fight Rama Tut who is revealed to be a time traveler named Scarlet Centurion.

There are so many places they can go and so many adventures to go on.
But I can see them all being grand scale and fantastic.

Of course there are many possibilities for future FF movies - even more IF they are back at Marvel and not at Fox.

IF we are talking the Fox reboot, then a few of the characters you have mentioned, like High Evolutionary and Scarlet Centurion are off the table, as they are Thor and Avengers villains first and for most, and clearly the property of Marvel Studios. Likewise, the Celestials are off limits, and probably the Kree as a race [Fox may be able to use Ronin - depends upon the deal with Marvel]; and sadly even the Inhumans may not be available [and I hope this is not the case].

Fox should be able to use characters and concepts at least introduced in the FF, so the Inhumans and the Skrulls should be at Fox's disposal.

Of course, the best thing for all is that the FF goes back to Marvel [like I understand will happen at the end of 2012] and then ALL the concepts from the FF can be used as Marvel sees fit.

I think you could easily do the origin in the credits. Everyone knows what it is anyway.

I think you could get away with Reed or someone saying something to the effect of "ever since that accident in space that gave us our fantastic powers" and leave it at that - do we really need to know any more if we do not know the full story already? Again, the first four Bat Man movies did little more than this, and that worked fine.

^Why do people keep saying that? The general public doesn't already know, and the ones that do, they think it sucks. Ask some random people at work how the FF got their powers and see what you come up with.

Anyway, Marvel is prepping Inhumans, so they are not with Fox. They way I'd set up the Quadrilogy
Movie 1 - Alien Life Forms, Wizard on crash planet and Mole Man on Earth.
Movie 2 - Alien Life Forms, Super Skrull on Skrullos and Dr. Doom on Earth
Movie 3 - Time Travel/Alt Realities, Namor in the Past and Annihilus in the Negative Zone
Movie 4 - Cosmic Entities, Silver Surfer and Galactus on Earth

Hmm... four movies isn't really enough time to get everything in.

Marvel owns Namor, so he can not be in a Fox FF movie, either!

Not sure what you mean by "Wizard on crash planet" - please explain...

I guess there's still next to no news regarding Fox's planned reboot for the FF movie, just endless speculation.

People remember the basics. The space origin is really not essential to understand the core concept of "family of super heroes."

If you don't want an origin story, you just stick it in there as an organic part of the story. Like the dream I've showed Johnny having several times...

Or Sue having an interview.

Jesus Christ, that artwork is scaring the **** out of me. I wouldn't wanna wake up and see either one of those two women staring me in the face. I know who drew it, and he always gets respect, but still...yeesh.

I would imagine that whether or not to do an origin film in the reboot would be heavily researched by studio guys. Looking at money and demographics and such. So I don't know what would be best for the reboot... which is what they will probably have to do. I doubt any of the stars will return... but I can see the film doing a quick recap in the opening credits, or having a bad guy retell it in a short story (like Red Ghost explaining how he is recreating the experiment that created the FF, by taking a rocket to Mars or whatever.) For me, personally, retelling the origin would be going over old ground. It would be like retelling the Spider-Man origin. Looks like a good movie, Spider-man, but I could do without the retelling him getting bitten again.
But the general non comic reading public may be different. Will they need to see the origin in detail? Will it matter? Should they show the origin to show how different it was from the last movie?

Recently my parents saw the Green Lantern movie, I had several problems and ideas how to make it better at script level, but when I asked them what they thought they said that they thought it was a fine movie. Not bad. So maybe us comic fans are way to critical, maybe the general audience does need another retelling because they don't know as much about the FF as we might think. Or maybe they don't need a retelling because it essentially isn't important. The Incredibles was about the same topic, superhero family, and they didn't even have origins for their characters. We never needed how Bob Parr got his powers, or Helen, or Frozone, etc.

For the longest time I've wanted Matthew Vaughn to direct the F4, he'd be perfect imo.
