Maybe it's just me but so far out of all the confirmed and rumored cast members we've got i don't see any racial diversity.It's not a big concern and i know it will probably change but it's just something i noticed.

That could possibly be because the characters that have been cast/rumoured so far are white. t:

It's far too early to be concerned about that. We hardly know any confirmed cast at all.

Thankyou for bringing this up Retro because I've noticed that to. I hope Storm is in this because they really need some diveristy in this group; it's looking a little too white. I was hoping that Beast could be changed to be bi-racial or black because I think that would've been a nice revamp to the character. Oh well.

No way, I would hate Hank McCoy to be changed to black. What are you smoking? That's one of the worst ideas i have ever read on here.

There are plenty of characters that could feature in order to add diversity, but i wouldn't want to see diversity forced into the story for the sake of it.

Well, most of the popular X-Men are White...That's just how it is.

Seriously, the X-Men are made up of so many different nationalities and races that there's no reason to change any of them.

actually when you think about their next 2 none mainstream Black superhero's...besides Black Panther and he is more B list...Storm is very popular, but I don't if its because of the movies, or cartoons....Blade has faded...Luke Cage can't seem to go into production, so...as a Black man myself it is kind of frustrating not having any maintstream characters be black...hero or villain, but I guess it doesn't bother me...

The X-men is all about diversity

The whole point of Giant-Sized #1 was to diversify the nationalities and races of the x-men.

There are plenty of minority characters who can be added without having to change the race of an established character.

So instead of getting a good character in general, you'd rather just have token characters whose only roles are to appease some quota? I mean, I'm all for mixing up the character's race IF it makes sense and is better than some of the alternatives (Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin was perfect, and Sam Jackson as Nick Fury works out, if you know Mark Millar's rationale behind the Ultimate-izing of Fury), but to do it just so you have a character of a certain race to show in the movie, then that's a practice of redundancy. A character should be able to stand on their own two feet, without their race or nationality being called into question.

I'm sure you all know of Hunger at this stage, but I'd also recommend Fish Tank for those of you who want to see what Fassbender is all about. Great stuff all together, and it's a genuinely disturbing performance too.

If they're going to have a love interest for xavier, than I would rather wish rosamund pike to play moira than emma.

moira makes more sense and sounds more logical as xavier's love interest.

I don't mind having emma in first class, but not as xavier's love interest.


I don't even think emma was in any way romatically involved with xavier in the comics or cartoon series.

If anything, emma was romantically involved with cyclops but not with xavier.

Emma was one of Xavier's past lovers in the Ultimate comics (as was Mystique), but I think the natural route for the movie to take would be for Emma to be a wedge in Scott and Jean's relationship. Meanwhile, Moira being in the movie would be a great way to cement her appearance in The Last Stand and give her more than just a cameo appearance.

We need Storm on the cast. She'll probably be the only minority, but...that's better than nothing.

She doesn't contribute anything to the plot or narration of the movie.

And frankly speaking,Storm is one of those mutants that doesn't have any interesting
storylines.


If I can recall,the only thing I can remember about Storm is she is claustophobic, her battle with Calisto to be leader of Morlocks and that one time, she was under Sauron's spell and she totally went nuts and crazy during an episode of "Savage Island" from the 90s cartoon series.

Other than that, I don't think there's anything remotely interesting about Storm,oh yeah..... her brief affair with Forge but I don't think Forge is even going to be in First Class so that cancels it out completedly.

Bottomline: Storm is cool cause she has awesome powers, and if anything,the reason to have her in First Class is just a lame excuse to see special effects such as lightning/thunder and cool battle/fight scenes in the movie.


But other than that, she don't really bring much to the table in terms of driving the plot/narration of the movie.

I'm not arguing that. Everyone knows that. However Storm, like the majority of X-Men related characters, has a rich history with many great story archs. Because the last three films failed to give her any significance has nothing to do with her actual character.

And saying that 5 female supporting roles is one too many, in a film where the two lead characters are male, is pretty damn sexist.

That's an interesting idea but i wouldn't want them to change the ethnicity of one of X-Men's core members.

Like others have said, there are lots of other characters they could add to make things more diverse without resorting to that.

You're right, it is early days. But i don't think expressing a little concern is unjust.

Wanting not just cultural but also racial diversity is something i think the filmmakers should take into consideration (especially) with a property like X-Men where one of the main themes is oppression.

But me let just be clear; i'm not going to boycot the film if the main and supporting cast happens to be white.

And if it comes down between Emma or Storm for First Class, I would rather see Emma in first classs.Cause Storm has already appeared in all three x movies, why not give other character(emma) a chance to be featured in an X movie??

We don't know if Emma will actually be in First Class. Rosamund Pike was apparently up for the role but recent reports have suggested it will be Moira. The only female characters that have been confirmed are Mystique, Jean and possibly Moira. There is a chance Emma could appear but given that the movies place Storm as an original member she might be included also.

And just because you find Emma 'hot' is no reason for her to be in the film.

Having 5 female characters isn't too much. It is likely there will be 5 or more male characters (Xavier, Magneto, Beast, Cyclops, villain). If Vaughn makes a 2 hour+ movie each character can have their moment. X3 failed in that respect as despite more characters and a more complex storyline it was the same length as the first film.

Xavier and Magneto will be the new 'Wolverine's' whereby the story revolves around them and all the other characters have to fit around that. Cyclops, Jean, Mystique will all be supporting characters but they will still be important to the story. I suppose it'll all be down to the script and how they juggle all the characters.
