Days of Future Past First Class Official Casting Thread

I'd love a scene between Scott and Jean where they're sitting outside the school and she asks him to take off his glasses. He does reluctantly and she is able to control the power in his eyes. It would be a very touching moment. Not only would it maintina trust between the two, but the two begin tounderstand eachother and fall in love.

There's a scene almost identical to that in X3.

and she literally says, "It's ok. I can control it now."

What she meant by "now" could have different interpretations, but it's possible that before she got all Phoenix'd, that she never had that kind of control of her power to pretty much de-energize Cyclops' beams.

ok noted...it was just a "what if" possibility if she wasn't seen depowering into a caucasion woman....calm down....

I'm calm, I promise.

I just think it's a bad idea to start considering this film on the basis of skin colour.

The film will be decided on the story they want to tell.

The X-Men are an allegory for minorities but we don't necessarily need to have such minorities actually present. Mutants stand for blacks, gays, Jews, etc, etc. Do we see gay groups demanding that some gay characters are included? No, we don't. Because the mutants are already symbolic of gay rights struggles (and civil rights for black people). So this black tokenism feels just as wrong.

It is possible, given that the early years of the X-Men in the comics doesn't have many black characters, that there won't be many black characters in the movie. But that doesn't make it wrong. Trying to force such characters into the film would make it contrived.

We don't even know if Storm is in this film. There have been no casting rumours for Storm and --- drops bombshell and runs --- one Tweet from Jonathan Ross (at the same time as he revealed his wife Jane Goldman was rewriting the script) indicated he believed she wouldn't be included in this first film. In a way, that sounds fine as Storm's African backstory etc needs more exploration than being chucked into the first movie. It could be a great end for the first film for Magneto to find news reports of unusual weather in Kenya and Xavier to try Cerebro out and discover a mutant of immense power there...

That line was fairly ambiguous, dare I say 'unclear.'

I interpreted it that she was now aware of all the 'new' power she had and thought it enough to totally hold back his blasts. But she was unaware that all that power co-existed with her Phoenix alter-ego which re-emerged with such ferocity that Cyke was vaporised and the lake's gravity and weather were warped.

I think you misread his tweet.

Someone asked him:

@Wossy One last question.. Whos YOUR favourite original Xmen character? Mine is Storm!

To which he replied:

@AngelaK8x erm, she's not an original I'm afraid. Always loved the Beast..
It wasn't anything to do with First Class, just the X-Men in general.

I'm just excited that Beast is getting a substantial role in an X-Film. Kelsey Grammar in X3 was probably the only bright spot.

Well, we agree then. :p

I didn't misread it, I just took it (wrongly or rightly) as a hint that perhaps Storm wouldn't be part of whatever 'original X-Men' was being referred to.

Yes, in the comics she was not original, she was part of the new team in 1975's X-Men relaunch. It just made me wonder if, given that his wife was working on a script about the original team, he was talking more broadly about Storm not being there in the beginning.

I thought he was just correcting someone who thought Storm was an original member, but I suppose if you over analyze stuff you could come up with anything.

What does his preference for Beast hint at I wonder? :D

Well, this is the home of X-Men over-analysis. Welcome to our world.:hehe:

If i were to over-analyse his Beast comment, it does seem remarkable that one of the first characters cast has been none other than Hank McCoy. :woot:

Several reasons as to why we have not heard any casting news for Storm could be that the audition process for her character has; A) not began B) they're probably having a hard time w/casting or C) they are narrowing their options

We already knew from the get go it was going to be tough to find someone who will match, not look like, Halle Berry so for this one we have to be very patient, but I think we will learn of Jean/Scott very soon

LOL...if they can't find a suitable actress they could pull a Transformers 3 and hire a Victoria Secrets model...Chanel Iman or Sessilee Lopez, both are tall, light skin, and exotic looking...LOL...LOL...(joking) but if they have the acting chops Hell why not? Rebecca R.(former VS model) did good as Mystique!!!

I would prefer an actress first, and a random model second.

I feel so bad for Storm. They just can't seem to get it right.

The dogfight sequence in X2 was amazing, but besides that, I can't believe that they can't nail her flying--especially after all of that they were supposed to do to make her fly in X3. All she did was mostly "levitate" straight up and down...The whirlwind attack made sense in X3, but I think Halle and the fans wanted a bit more.

I want to see some badass flying around this time...They can do something like the Quidditch match sequences from the Harry Potter movies, but with mutants..

It makes you wonder what they would have done with Storm if Halle didn't win an Oscar. I think the Storm/Nightcrawler Cerebro scene may have been their way of giving her something to do. "Here, save the day".

I accept that Storm/Cyclops/Jean/Beast will be supporting characters to Xavier and Magneto but I hope they give them all a purpose and issues to be dealing with. While Storm won't be having an romance storyline like Cyclops and Jean they could use her to get across the prejudice issue. Being a black mutant girl with white hair in a different country can't be all that easy to deal with. Especially in the 60's/70's.

I remember clearly fighting people constantly on the Oscar thing. I mean, what we got, still--nothing overwhelming, yet people just would not and could not stand Storm getting more screentime, as if she deserved to be pushed into the background with nothing to do. They loved jumping on the whining/Oscar bandwagon and I'm glad that it ended up not moving that needle the way people thought it would.

I'm wondering are they casting actual teenage actors for the X-Men or are they casting 20 year olds and playing it like there late teens.

I'm reading the First Class comics and it is established that they are college level (but Xavier is teaching them), so possibly the ages could range from 18-24 w/Hank being the oldest...and Scott, Jean, & Storm inbetween

This could coincide w/XMO:W because we saw Scott in h.s. so far all we know he could have been a junior or senior...I have a feeling their going to ignore Jean's origin in TLS and come up w/something better to (re)introduce her, hopefully they mention Annie's passing and that's the reason her power manifested

It's probably easier to cast early-mid 20 actors to portray teens.

thats what I thought. But I was just thinking that it would look weird with a Prof X who looks like he can play the same age as the students

clearly that's not what I'm saying...if you read what I posted I was saying that it is frustrating to (SOME/NOT ALL) people who are minorities not to have mainstream colored hero's, BUT IT DOES NOT BOTHER ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RACE DOES NOT DEFINE US!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND HAVE SOME OF YOU FORGOTTEN HOW DIVERSE X3 WAS AND MANY OF YOU (NOT ALL) ***** BECAUSE VAUGHN OR RATNER CHANGED SOME OF THE NATIONALITIES OF CERTAIN CHARACTERS, FOR EX...CALLISTO WAS PLAYED BY LATINA ACTRESS OR COLOSSUS DIDN'T HAVE A RUSSIAN ACCENT, QUILL WAS ASIAN, ETC...

I'M NOT SAYING CERTAIN CHARACTERS HAVE TO BE PUT INTO A FILM TO SERVE A "QOUTA" AS YOU PUT IT, BUT WHAT PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SAY IS THAT X-MEN, NOT ANY OTHER FILM, IS ABOUT PREDJUDICE AND DIVERSITY PERIOD!!! SO THESE ARE OTHER THEMES TO EXPLORED WITH MUTANTS OF COLOR...FOR ex. I'M NOT SAYING ADD BISHOP BECAUSE HE'S BLACK, BUT IF THEIR IS A STORY TO BE TOLD W/HIS CHARACTER AND ITS DONE TASTEFUL THEN USE HIS CHARACTER...NOT ADD MINORITIES FOR THE HELL OF IT...BUT THE X-MEN UNIVERSE IF DIVERSE, SO...EITHER YOU'RE GOING TO LIKE IT OR HATE IT....

I meant to quote the comment after you and hit post prematurely, I suppose. Now please, step away from the Caps Lock

The movie will be set in the late 80's/early 90's if anything, at least anything that would have to do with Storm joining the team.

I'd love the Annie incident to get a mention, i'd like it to tie in to film continuity as the first thing that made young Jean lose control and lash out. Imagine: Annie gets knocked over by a car, Jean freaks out and hears her dying thoughts, her power surges, the car and the driver and everything else nearby get annihilated in a massive Phoenix blast.

IKR!?! We were so robbed in TLS!!! But hopefully Singer/Vaughn have the chance to retcon orgins, plot holes from X1, X2, & maybe X3...

Well, do you mean plot holes or continuity?

The only plot hole that I remember from X1 was how Mystique just happened to be at the mansion just in time after Rogue nearly kills Wolverine and uses that to get her to leave.

I just thought that was a little weird..

Well, everyone wanted to see it in X3, but it didn't happen...
