You all would have pissed your pants the second that white walker looked at you so lets cut sam some slack. He was also in a blizzard away from the Fist at the time of the attack.

Sort of a random thought but since HBO never renews shows past 1 season at a time (technically GOT has not been renewed for a 4th season yet) i'm assuming that means they can't lock down cast members long-term?

I wonder what would happen if anyone in the cast let's say for better opportunities in film or something decided they didn't wan't to come back for another season down the road?

Just because they take it one season at a time, doesn't mean they don't have deals in place with certain castmembers. I think that's the way it is with most shows.

Yeah i'm kinda interested to see what kind of deals some of the stars of the show have? I'm assuming since most of the cast were unknowns when they were hired they probably had minimal deals in place but since the show sort of exploded i wonder how that works now?

If this was a network show we'd probably hear more of the behind the scene deets.

It's just my suspicion that at least one or two in the cast are going to have a chance to break out into film soon.

No ones leaving the show. Not of the main cast anyways. They could easily navigate a film schedule arpund HBOs schedule. And any ways the main cast has multi season deals in the event the show is renewed. Networks do the same thing. Supernatural is renewed on a season by season basis but Jared and Jansen have contracts extending through season 10 in the event that the show continues.

Ah ok yeah that would make sense. HBO also isn't really that stubborn a network i could actually see them moving around premier dates even if it came to that.

Solid episode, I love seeing the dragons grow, the giant was kinda cool, and holy sh** there must be a meme of that guy's nipple getting ripped out.

Yes with it saying: Pepperoni anyone?

Selmy is a good guy and more trustworthy than Mormont. Unlike Mormont he is there because of duty and devotion. Mormont is there cause he loves Khalisee in a not so professional way. Its going to cause tension from Mormont towards Selmy.

In the books you get to hear his thoughts and the guy is on the level.

I know. I've read them. ;)

I still think from a resume standpoint Selmy has some 'splaining to do. Something he has mostly avoided even in the books.

It's Roose Bolton that takes over Harrenhal, Ramsay never leaves the North.

Qyburn is indeed with The Brave Companions/The Bloody Mummers but what you talk about that can still sort of play out. It's actually that company that takes Harrenhal for Roose in the second book but I suspect that Roose will just have his own men, not any sellsword companies, in the show.

I get the Boltons mixed up. So, who was the guy with the leaches in the book? That was Roose? Later in the books [blackout]where is it that Reek is kept? I thought it was Harenhal, but now that I think about it, they don't go there until Ramsay's wedding.[/blackout]

The change that did annoy me was how badly they delivered on the cliffhanger from last season by not showing the battle. I know they can't have a Blackwater every season, much less for a first scene, but in terms of narrative storytelling, it is such an annoying thing that they should have not shown an entire Walker army if the aftermath is all off-screen.

I don't mind that one. I'd much rather they save their budget for the more important battles to come involving main characters. I feel bad that Sam didn't send any ravens. In the books doesn't he at least get off one jumbled note and the rest of the ravens take off noteless?

Also, the Tywin and Tyrion scene was great, even if it is so ridiculous that he'd treat a cupbearer better than his own son. My thoughts.
Well, that cupbearer wasn't involved in the death of the one thing Tywin ever really loved.

Also, I wonder [blackout]how they'll handle Theon's storyline. I have to think they won't go the entire season without him popping up, but you never know. That's another thing similar to the Selmy situation, too. Even if they totally mess Alfie Allen up (which I doubt they'll go all out and knock his teeth out), he's still going to be instantly recognizable.[/blackout]

Next episode could have some significant action, depending on how they decide to draw things out. We could see [blackout]the Jaime/Brienne fight and Dany's sack of Astapor in the same episode.[/blackout] Though I suspect they'll hold off for an episode or two on at least one of those bits.

The show Theon's [blackout]torture this season unlike in the books. In the trailers he is the one mounted on the X shaped rack with the drill bits being cranked into him.[/blackout]

As for tywin, he can stop acting like a ****. His son did not consciously kill his mother. I kniw the stigma towards dwarfs in Westeros but if tyrion was my brother I would knock that old bag of bones down a flight of stairs for treating him like that. That whole scene was brutal and I just wanted to deck tywin.

I assume it's more because he killed his wife than him being a dwarf.

I don't know if Tywin's views are even the "norm" in Westeros. No one seemed to have a problem with him being the Hand (besides Cersei). So, maybe it's just Tywin being a dick, and no one else really cares that he has a disability.

I was excited to see a giant and sexay Dany again after a whole year.

You know it's funny people were asking me why Tywin was acting like such a **** towards Tyrion in that scene whereas up until then he seemed reasonable. This is much more in line with how he is in the books.

I still find that scene with Stannis to be jarring, he was never as passive as he was in that scene and it made him seem like too much of a puppet.

I figured that would become an issue. They made Tywin too likable, now his treatment of Tyrion seems out of character.

Its a westeros thing. They think dwarves are crooked and devious. A curse from the gods. In season two you get a glimpse of it when bronn and tyrion hear the common folk say Joffrey is being controlled by a demon monkey man. As bronn pointed out they are talking about tyrion. In the books more is said about the treatment of dwarfes. Most dwarves are killed.

Tywin resents tyrion for the death of his wife and for his dwarfism. Two things Tyrion can't help.

I remember an interview with Stephen Moyer (True Blood) where he said you have to sign a seven year contract for any American tv show.

But it's clear why he was behaving almost reasonably. Needless to say, his intentions aren't pure, but neither are her's I suppose.
Joffrey may not be kinder or smarter, but I got the sense that the experience at Blackwater humbled him somewhat. He now seems more willing to stay in his high-chair and be quiet while the adults do the work.

Well after seeing the first episode my conclusion is that it's......good enough, as GOT episodes go. I remember liking the 2nd season opener much more last year but then I hadn't read any of the books at that time and now I've read all that have been released so far. Kinda changes things when you already have a picture in your mind of what a certain scene is going to be like and then what you get isn't as grandiose.
