Question for those who've finished up to the end of the books so far:

Do you think they'll need two seasons to cover all of book 4 and 5?

I was reading an interview with EW and Benoff/Wiess and they were talking about the storytelling catching up with the books and the challenges of those two books. Since the two are along the same timeline but in different locations, would 2 seasons suffice or would they be able to do it in 1 to 1 1/2?

Stannis has become the only character I'm really interested in. He's my only hope and really the only person left that can kill the Lannisters and Freys and Roose Bolton. But I do wish they would potray him as being less dependent on melysandra. Having Mance disappear for the entire season after his great introduction was very weak. My hope for season 4 is having more Stannis, Stark revenge, Arya getting her training and returning, and Dany at least finally making the Damn voyage to westeros.

I think him being a bastard would mean that he would be last on the totem pole no? If so, than Bran would be the heir of House Stark and Winterfell.

No, he's in the Night's Watch and has left all family behind with his oath. As a bastard he would also only be eligible if all the kin of Eddard are gone, although Westerosi history has cases of bastards being legitimized by a king's decree.

The official heir is Sansa because all the Stark men are believed to be dead and she's the eldest daughter.

The real heir is Bran.

Well, I'm so apprehensive about holding out hope with everything that's happened. I'm with the Starks, so maybe I'm jaded? And yeah, the Starks could return someday. But, I don't think we'll ever see it happen. Not unless they do a crazy time jump, that is. Bran and Rickon are too young. Arya is too, and even if she wasn't Sansa is the older sister so she'd be the next in line anyway.

And I thought about Jon Snow...even though he is a bastard he could claim Winterfell and take on his father's name. But, he's man of the Nightswatch, so isn't he forbidden from that? Doesn't wearing the black keep him from claiming anything?

Despite them being too young (Robb was 14 in the books) Bran is really the more realistic hope in terms of the rules of the realm. He is a full Stark and the last of the male line. Jon cannot because he, like you said is a brother of the Night's Watch and most of all a bastard. Unless something huge happens like Bran dying (which I don't see happening, if any of the Starks will survive, it will be Bran and Arya; Arya most of all) then Jon has more of a shot. But right now Bran is really the last true male Stark.

I think given this finale where they contrast Dany's compassion with the other lords of Westeros with their it could give hope that Westeros can be rules by love. I mean it's been a common theme of the show and the books. Just how good can someone be in the face of overwhelmingly bad and if they can really succeed. Martin's great as playing with our expectations, but we'l have to wait and see which really wins.

Very good episode and season finale in my view. What I found fascinating about this episode is how it gave us a glimpse of humanity even in the most vile of characters from this show (for the exception of Joffrey, Ramsy, Frey, Bolton). Cersei reminiscing on the innocence of baby Joffrey and Lord Tywin telling Tyrion of how he decided to spare his life and still claim him as his son were all tender moments from characters you've learned to expect nothing but coldness from.

Also the reunion between Cersei and Jaimie. Despite us disliking these characters (more so Cersei) it was still a very nice moment between them. It's moments like these that make great writing. Despite these people being bad people, they're human first.

I quite liked the finale, I was just disappointed the ending didn't quite pack the punch of the first two. It's like, yes, we get it. Dany is wonderful and beautiful and has three dragons and shoots rainbows out of her ass and is the Mother Theresa of the realm but with better breasts, but come on... give me something to get me amped up over the ****ing 9-10 month hiatus that lies ahead.

Otherwise, I ****ing loved it. I loved that the small council scene was damn near everyone ganging up on Joffrey for being a little twerp. Except Pycelle, of course. He's still got his nose firmly planted up Cersei's ass.

I was actually pretty amped up. I loved the sense of optimism in this episode, including the ending. Which we don't get very often in this series. Which I'm confident won't last of course.

Overall, I actually loved the finale. Not as eventful, but it planted seeds and got me more excited for what's to come, yet depressed that I have to wait another year. But oh well, I intend to start book three.

I was thinking about it earlier. This season had a lot of great moments. Here are my top five:

5. Jaime getting his hand chopped off - Helped set the tone that no character is safe.

4. Arya taking vengeance on the Frey soldiers with The Hound - YES! YES! YES!

3. Dany liberating the Unsullied - Of course I loved this moment. This is my favorite thing she's done so far in the books.

2. "Jaime...my name is Jaime." - The scene in the bath with Brienne and Jaime and his outstanding monologue. Give Nikolaj Coster Waldau an Emmy now. Such a great scene.

1. The Red Wedding - Now, "great" may not be the best word to use, but the scene was so emotionally powerful that I believe that years down the line, when people bring up this show, this will be the first scene people think of. It was painful to read in the book, but the show just made it that much harder to watch. After it ended, I felt like I had been punched in the gut.

I can't believe they left out [blackout]Coldhands[/blackout].

I would've loved if they had [BLACKOUT]him or even the Black Gate to spice up the supernatural, hopefully they'll appear next season.[/BLACKOUT] This is the weakest finale but I give it a pass since it's adapting half of ASOS, that and because thanks for giving Arya a BAMF scene, I was disappointed with her not killing anyone in ACOK but choosing to sparing her first kill until this season works better in my opinion.

Stoneheart was resurrected 3 days after RW, but don't know how long it's between that and her appearance in the epilogue, I think it's like the week or two later but perhaps it's even the following day after the resurrection.

Good episode. I'm not angry that I wasn't all that special, let's face it for this series the season finale is EP9 and EP10 is more of a bridge between seasons. It sets up the new one. And Mhysa did that very nicely.
