The Force Awakens General Star Wars Episode VII News/Speculation Thread - Part 7

I could give you Cosmic Book News. But trust me, you don't want it.

I love it. Unconventional looking and types of actors in big movies like this. The last thing I want is an Alex Pettyfer in this thing.

You know who'd I like to see in a SW film? Paul Dano. That guy needs more love.

I highly recommend reading The Making of ESB. There's a fantastic chapter where Kirshner is blocking the carbon freezing scene with the actors.

When you look like Ewan McGregor maturing into Alec Guiness, women will come to you.

Now that I think about it, I think the best way to get the full effect of a proper send off would be to make them center characters. I mean who knows it may have worked in Arndt's draft, but Abrams seems to have a very strong idea of what to do if he fought for it. If there's something that they really want to tell about them that's important yet fresh then go for it.

Meh. I am a bit skeptical about making the old timers leads again. I would rather see them in strong supporting roles like Guinness was in a New Hope.

Ford can handle himself, but I'm not sure about Hamill and especially Fisher. Fisher has been a hot mess for awhile now unfortunately.

Fisher has been doing well as of late, and really has lost a lot of weight, Mark has as well, and being old does not really stop Jedi as much, especially if the role is made around him more so.

After this news has cooled we do have to remember certain things. First, THR has been wrong about a lot of Episode VII stuff....so has everyone. I think people are digging their old wells from LFL hoping to get info and I think some is disinformation. Even Ali admitted so that there is disinformation out there, this is JJ after all.

The talk was that Ardnt's script had one scene with each of the big three. So I think even THR is taking completely out of context of how much JJ is enlarging their roles. Making them bigger and more of a strong character yes, but not the leads. People do seem to forget that a day earlier Plemmons and others were in talks for the "LEAD/MAIN" roles. As well as all the casting calls for the new characters in November were for the again "MAIN/LEAD" characters. It's one thing that people have really overlooked that kinda does already show that THR is playing with half-truths and spinning it out of proportion. SW is just as a franchise not as held as high as it once was, it seems that THR and these other sites know that slightly controversial news+SW7=massive hits.

I think a lot even know that a lot of this is kinda thrown out of proportion, not completely "untrue" mind you but just not near the level some think.

So many conflicting things even in the past few days of who is playing what and so forth.

I think without a doubt I knew Luke would be a "central" type character to the new generation as Obi-Wan was, but also stronger even with a relationship probably with his son and other relatives etc.

I also think people are getting news mixed up from the Spin-Off's and even Ali said this and mixing it with the news of Episode VII especially all the stuff he said with Obi-Wan, the daughter, Palpatine etc.

This whole ordeal was so similar to the Arndt being out thing that I just think so many (yes including myself) over-reacted to the whole situation. We truly still no nothing. But I'm thinking soon.

Actually Octoberist if you think about it, most of the news as of late for Episode VII ha been on a Thursday. So I think maybe something tomorrow. But by the end of the month I think we will start hearing stuff.

Just cast The Wolf Of Wall Street chick as Luke's daughter & be done with it

I'm bored so I'm going over old materials. Here's what a casting call for Episode I looked like:

March 3, 1996 - Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace / description of two roles

Casting calls are underway for two lead roles to be played by young actors. Taken from the audition requirements:

ANAKIN SKYWALKER (DARTH VADER): Caucasian, 8-9. Anakin is a handsome young boy with extraordinary charm. He has a vulnerability and earnestness that makes him totally disarming. His amazing aptitude for things mechanical together with his quick wit and physical fitness make him a natural pilot at an early age, maturing into a fighter pilot of exceptional talent. Anakin's resourceful imagination and inventive mind already set him apart from others. OBI WAN KENOBI is later to recognize his innate gifts, becoming his friend and mentorm teaching him the attributes of a Jedi Knight. Anakin is a role model of the highest order, someone every boy would like to be...LEAD.

THE QUEEN: Eurasian/Latina girl 13-14. An enchanting young girl, already showing signs of blossoming into a sensual, exotic, darkhaired beauty. By contrast she has, however, the reserve, political acumen, poise and bearing of a queen and ruler, together with a natural wisdom and sensitivity that cannot be taught. A strong, spirited and highly intelligent girl, she is quick to learn the principles of justice and honor. She is a great leader and it is apparent to all...LEAD.

This information, to a lesser format, has been reported by the media this past week. These may be the two roles producer Rick McCallum spoke about last year. No additional information, such as the name of 'The Queen' is known at this time.

Unconfirmed and speculative is the rumor that Eric Lloyd (Tim Allen's son in The Santa Clause) could be the front-runner for the Anakin role. The story goes that Lucas himself asked for a personal casting call from the young actor - however Lucasfilm remains tight-lipped about any casting operations.

With a description like that, boy, did George Lucas really miscast the role in Episode 1.lol

On that note, IF one of the new leads for the franchise is actually Luke's son, how would you guys prefer for his character to be like? Would you want him to be modeled after Luke Skywalker's behavior from the original trilogy? Or would you want him a little more rebellious like Anakin was written to be like?

How do you think they will play the offspring in Ep. VII though? Will they be more like Luke and Leia or will they have a dark side too? not sure what star wars is without the threat of corruption and uncomfortable 'family love'. if they are too similar to luke, will there be much of a story? Will they be jedi?

Not exactly about Star Wars, but i wonder what the implications would be when it comes to Han and when they will start shooting the movie: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/harrison-ford-joins-age-adaline-671255?mobile_redirect=false

Harrison Ford has joined the cast of romantic drama The Age of Adaline. He'll star opposite Blake Lively and Ellen Burstyn, who were previously announced.

Lionsgate, Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment are teaming on the project, with Lionsgate releasing the film in the U.S. Director Lee Toland Krieger starts shooting in March.
(the lack of news has me grasping for stories :hehe:)

Fisher is a hot mess....she has a long way to go. She also has some mental health issues.

Not really. Yes she does have bi-polar syndrome but a lot of actors do. Linda Hamilton, and Mel Gibson among others. Now their personal lives may be one thing, but there are still quite a few that can do their work with no troubles. Unlike most of them Carrie seems to be getting a hold on it. I'm sure Disney would make sure she has all the help she can get. And she's been going to a lot of expos and so forth. Bi-polars can function with the right medication in society.

She's old though, it's just something that they won't be able to do much about, she's probably not going to be the "eye candy" anymore, but if the character is written with that in mind, that should be no bother. We will have new young pretty leads etc. I doubt her character will be doing any super action sequences anyways.

Ewan McGregor dishes on acting with Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, and future Star Wars projects

Q: There's going to be a Star Wars VII...are you going to be playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again?

EM: I've been sitting next to my phone for 3 months now, nobody's called. So, I don't think I'm going to be in it. Waiting for the call. If they're out there, watching CNN, you know...I'm ready. (mouths "call me") I'd put the cloak on again.

I'm betting he will be in the Obi-Wan spin-off that's been talked about.

The 4 Most Important Star Wars Stories Of The Year (So far)

ABRAMS VS. ARDNT
We’ve heard that Ardnt was much more into the story of the Solo kids, while JJ felt – and still feels – that this the story of the Skywalker line.

Since Ardnt walked almost all of his ideas have been tossed and Abrams/Kasdan are pursuing the Skywalker-centric version they wanted. Mark Hamill’s part has been beefed up so much he might end up shooting 6 months on the movie, our source estimated.

PLEMONS IS IN
Jesse Plemons of Friday Night Lights and Breaking Bad was heavily rumored to be under consideration for a lead role in Star Wars Episode VII. We heard that this is basically a locked deal, at least as locked as anyone can be at this point.

We expect Plemons’ involvement will be announced early on, but the Disney/Star Wars PR Plemons Plan, currently, is to confirm his involvement without naming his part. So we’ll get a confirmation, but not an official confirm that Plemons is playing Ben Skywalker, Luke’s son. Plemons’ character would be the main protagonist of Episode VIII. EIGHT!

BOBA FETT’S RET-CON

OBI-ONE. NOT TWO. ONE.
In response to a rumor that Obi-Wan would have some sort of offspring, we’re told that it’s absolutely not true. That being said, the Kenobi family will come into play. Could be niece nephew, no real details on that one. It could be a Force Ghost or a something else, we just know it’s not his daughter or grandkid.

Are you ****ing serious? It's a good thing we don't have any judgmental fanboys running around. Unbelievable.

I'm starting to regret checking this thread every day if this is the kind of crap that vomits forth from it.

What. The. F**k.

Strap in, a lot of you aren’t going to like this.
To counter-act the prequels, the Boba Fett spin-off movie planned for 2018 has an interesting twist pitched by Episode VII writer Lawrence Kasdan: the spin-off will start with a complete stranger killing Boba Fett and taking his armor, starting a Man-With-No-Name bounty hunter tale. So: someone kills the Boba Fett from the prequels and takes his armor and name. One this is for certain is that Kasdan didn’t like the prequel and wants no Bobba Fett Clone in the spin-off film.
Sounds a lot like a Western and it sounds like it could restore a fan-favorite character that was totally a little boy with thousands of versions of his father running around. Or it could just be a lot of stupid rib-elbowing about this stranger doomed to fall into a Sarlaac pit in the most anti-climatic franchise exit ever.
Lastly I was told by 3 sources, reps etc, etc…(so call who ever you want) that Captain American director Joe Johnston is on top of the list to direct the spin-off, which makes sort of sense since he began his career as a concept artist and effects technician on the first Star Wars film. REMEMBER NOW before you all go and say he’s directing the project, I never said he has the job, just that he’s on top of the list, lets get that perfectly clear.

If that is true, I'm done with all of this.

The best we (or at least I) can hope for is that LR and THR are being fed (or conjecturing) a load of obfuscating dog feces all around.

I bet the majority of people who would be against this are prequel fans while OT fans would lean towards supporting it. I never liked Fett as a clone personally.

The greatest thing about this potential retcon is that it [BLACKOUT]nullifies the special edition change from 2004 which replaced Boba Fett's original, awesomely menacing voice to Temeura Morrison's bland delivery.[/BLACKOUT]
