The Force Awakens General Star Wars Episode VII News/Speculation Thread - Part 7

I'm an OT fan who's more or less made peace with the PT (more or less, I say).
And I hated what the prequels did to Boba. But, I'm against retconning it. I think Star Wars shouldn't be subject to such drastic and frankly, fan fictionesque changes. Realistically, they wouldn't even have to reference the fact that Boba's a clone in his spin-off anyway. I'm calling BS on this one.

All that said, I do very much support getting rid of the ridiculous NZ accent and bringing back the real voice.

I like both the OT, PT, and EU, equally. Unfortunately it seems like the EU is gone. Thank you very much Mr. Abrams and Disney.:o:cmad::csad:

After my initial shock I've come to love the Boba retcon and I realise now the main thing what shocked me was the pure balls of the idea.

Bullock FTW.

Wait, so how is that suppose to work? How can you make a person mysterious if you see that said person kill the other person and see them put on the Boba Fett armor?

I thought part of the mystery of Fett was that we didn't even see his face?

Well you could work around it, but the mysteriousness was not just "not" seeing his face, it was the whole...what is he doing here? Type of ordeal. This won't retcon the PT, it will just have someone that's got a way better voice lol. If you know nothing of his past, it makes him mysterious. Many westerns are like this.

I really like the idea. Old school western like Boba Fett story.

To counter-act the prequels, the Boba Fett spin-off movie planned for 2018 has an interesting twist pitched by Episode VII writer Lawrence Kasdan: the spin-off will start with a complete stranger killing Boba Fett and taking his armor, starting a Man-With-No-Name bounty hunter tale. So: someone kills the Boba Fett from the prequels and takes his armor and name. One this is for certain is that Kasdan didn’t like the prequel and wants no Bobba Fett Clone in the spin-off film.

Joe Johnston directing Boba Fett makes a lot of sense when you take into account that he CREATED THE CHARACTER.

Q: There's going to be a Star Wars VII...are you going to be playing Obi-Wan Kenobi again?

EM: I've been sitting next to my phone for 3 months now, nobody's called. So, I don't think I'm going to be in it. Waiting for the call. If they're out there, watching CNN, you know...I'm ready. (mouths "call me") I'd put the cloak on again.
Someone just needs to call this man and setup a solo movie, NOW! :cmad:

What. The. F**k.

Strap in, a lot of you aren’t going to like this.

Sounds a lot like a Western and it sounds like it could restore a fan-favorite character that was totally a little boy with thousands of versions of his father running around. Or it could just be a lot of stupid rib-elbowing about this stranger doomed to fall into a Sarlaac pit in the most anti-climatic franchise exit ever.
Lastly I was told by 3 sources, reps etc, etc…(so call who ever you want) that Captain American director Joe Johnston is on top of the list to direct the spin-off, which makes sort of sense since he began his career as a concept artist and effects technician on the first Star Wars film. REMEMBER NOW before you all go and say he’s directing the project, I never said he has the job, just that he’s on top of the list, lets get that perfectly clear.

If that is true, I'm done with all of this.
:funny: i dont really care for Boba or a solo movie of his, but i guess this means they can just keep killing Fett off and having someone else be him every single time. Sounds like a dream for those who love the character since it seems he will never die even if he does die. Seems a bit boring to me but hey, since i'm not a fett-head i'm not the targeted crowd for this.I dont really care what they do with him. To me he died in ROTJ and i like Jango way more than Boba :oldrazz:

This has been my worry since disney bought and they hired Abrams to direct.Pissing over prequels. So now they are going to piss over both prequels and Clone wars and special editions.

I am fan of George Lucas' Star wars.all 6 films and Clone wars film+Series.Since he sold Lucasfilm to disney and has no involvement anymore.

I don't know why disney and abrams doesn't just reboot so they can ignore prequels, and clone wars entirely and let abrams just copy original film and empire In this trilogy.

I know antiprequel cwoad on this board will praise everything Abrams does.

Star Trek Into Darkness Is exhibt 1 why I am not thrilled with him.Plus the godawful Superman script he wrote makes me nevous on his rewriting the film.

Well technically we never saw OT Bobba's face, and who gives a crap about PT Bobba. Actually, this is a brilliant idea. It returns Bobba to the mysterious badass that everyone knows and loves without contradicting either the PT or OT.

it kind of contradicts the OT...unless this will be set before Jedi.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

In my case, I'm onboard because I like the original Fett and don't consider every dump Lucas took to be sacred and untouchable. It has nothing to do with Abrams but don't let that stop you from making foolish claims.

I see another who wants to bash George Lucas. If it's disney behind this move and not abrams that Is even worse.

What's worse is dealing with people like you who can't handle opinions different from your own. You're doing the exact same thing right now that you've always done in the Fantastic Four threads. If someone doesn't like the idea of Fox mangling that film then they must be a crazed Marvel fanboy and Disney slave. Now here in this thread if someone dares criticize George Lucas they must be a biased Disney and Abrams devotee.

I hate to break it to you yet again, but you seem unwilling or unable to understand - talking about someones poor artistic decisions does not constitute "bashing", except maybe in your own little fantasy world where you think everyone should agree with you 100% of the time. You're not going to drown people out and make them go away by trying to paint them as mindless drones. Get over yourself plz.

It is a really good decision.

The more I read up on the production history of the original trilogy, the more it seems that the best parts of it were from Lucas not being able to fulfill his vision because of limitations, or someone else calling the shots (Kershner, the editing team of A New Hope.) Do not get me wrong: he is an incredible businessman and ideas-man, but in terms of editing, directing, or hell, turning rough ideas into an actual screenplay, he's disappointing...although he does have the occasional flash of competency.

While I hate the first two prequel films with a hellish passion, I do not hate Revenge of the Sith as much, because of one great shot. When Palpatine gives his speech (and reveal of fathering) Anakin in the opera house, the opera bubble adjusts itself to symbolically manifest the discussion. During the discussion of creating midichlorians, the act of cells reproducing occurs; slightly afterwards, the completed "cell" turns into a skull.

Now, I know my credit might be misplaced: those were probably the results of the CGI designers who were working with vague instructions and a whole lotta tech (or what I call, Prequelspeak) that does not make any sense. However, I would like to give Lucas credit in this one case.

There is no defense of the alleged merits of said films; all there is "well, you like (insert name of director)."

I'd rather they just make films and not try to 'fix' the prequels.

I don't think that they will. They'll just mostly ignore them.

It's a very bizarre feeling, but since they announced the sale to Disney and all of the new movies and spinoff craziness started, i've come to realize it's very possible that, depending on the direction they go in, i could no longer be the crowd that they want to keep interested in this saga. And i've come to be fine with that. I have 6 movies and cartoon series i love and enjoy. I could live on those until i die, it's fine lol. I've always found the whole OT vs PT feud very silly, and if the parent starts picking sides, well... it's gonna get even messier. And this is why i was hoping for a fresh start: it was less likely they were going to attempt to 'fix' or 'erase' things. But oh well, only time will tell how this will all go down. Hopefully there wont be as many fandom casualties as one speculates (OT, PT, EU, CW, Holiday special lol).

^^^
Definitely, perhaps there could be a scene where Obi Wan wakes up and finds he was only dreaming about the midichlorians and perhaps the entire first prequel... :o

Your journey toward the confusing and unnecessary Ret Con of Boba Fett in the next SW films will be complete!

A decent amount of people actually. Besides the fact The Clone Wars managed to make him cool.

But, lets all bow down to the prequel haters, those of us who love all the films obviously shouldn't get to have an opinion for our crappy taste in movies. :o

I feel the same. I already see what they are doing. They will say that the Boba Fett in the OT and in these next films was a different Boba Fett than the continuity introduced in the prequels.

Or will they say Boba Fett survived being eaten in ROTJ?

Or is there a clone now of Boba Fett? Aiiiieeeeeeeee

Pretty much how I'm feeling. If the Fett news is true, I won't see that spin-off at all. Boba Fett IS Boba Fett, and I certainly don't want to go back to all that 80's Jaster Mereel crap. I'll see the sequels unless VII just absolutely turns me off, and then I'll be happy to be the "old SW fan", or whatever we may end up to be termed. I want to have faith Disney has some respect for the franchise, but between probably wiping out the EU, and all this other stuff, I find it easier to remember that it is Disney we're dealing with, and I shouldn't set my hopes too high.
