LOL, I think that was a subtle nod to Birthright. In the first half of that story, Clark's shirt strangely disappears a various points when he's saving people. And even after he puts the suit on, he gets the "S" ripped off during a battle, exposing his manly pectorals once again.

Part of the iconic imagery in the comics is Superman's costume getting shredded during battle. It would be pretty awesome to see on screen, with some of the costume torn away, it adds a very human element to his struggle and effort and you realize there is a real man underneath it all. (Death of Superman did it the best).

But because the way the suit is for the movie, we will never see it sadly.

We never saw him on screen with the wet undershirt that he's wearing in all of those set pics, either.

The sequence was cut. I think the Oil Rig scene was definitely shortened. Its a very expensive scene, very expensive special effects with **** blowing up. It was also Cavill's big shirtless scene, doing the action and being a badass and all. There were numerous set photos of him in a singlet and even production images. And in the movie we get none of that, we get instead just a 1 and 1/2 minute sequence.

And how he lost his shirt is definitely a question. I think it would have been really cool to see the shirt burn OFF him. Like so far we don't know he's Superman, so his shirt catches fire and the audience thinks that he will now have to douze it but he keeps going and the shirt simply burns off showing his physique.

Also I think Clark climbing the oil rig shirtless was a CGI shot added later. I think they originally had him board the oil rig in his singlet, which then burned off and he became shirtless. In post the shortened the sequence and cut out all the bits where he is wearing the singlet, so to maintain continuity added a CG shot of him climbing the oil rig already shirtless.

PS: The music in the oil rig sequence is the best music in the entire film.

I also don't think this kind of suit is going to be getting torn at all, it isn't made from human material.

Something like he was entirely wet but some oil spilled on his shirt, so only that burnt off. Eitherways it would have been really cool seeing him with his shirt burning off him.

Even the comics suit is not made from human material but does get torn. If kryptonians attack him, the suit could suffer atleast some damage.

I thought Cavill was excellent. I couldn't have imagined anyone better in the role. He is easily the best Superman since Reeves IMO. It is far too early to say this but I think Cavill has the potential to surpass him.

Hey the kids are going to have to be exposed to a bum eventually, why have it be Superbum. You know what Im pretty sure I wouldn't be this prevy if it wasn't Henry in the role.

Ok just saw this movie a second Time and Henry is just awesome, it doesn't even seem like he's trying, just like "yep Im Superman, give me a costume and a cape and I got this". He definitely made me believe for the first time since 1980.

Cavill will. He will be in The Man From Uncle. ( I wonder why they want to produce these kind of movies inspired by some old series that not everybody nowadays know)

People talk about Wonder Woman or Supergirl int he sequel and it seems they think every girl Henry date should be one of them.

So, if you search "kaley cuoco" you will find some pics of her in a supergirl suit and you can find Gina Carano Wonder Woman.

It's not so bad for Gina but I don't buy it...

So, some people wonder (lol) if girls in Hollywood want to be with Henry for his fame. (A reason for a breakup? )

Before I discovered Adams was married, I thought she could be a perfect match with Henry. Now I wonder if it's not just some promotion.

Calling it now: Henry Cavill will be the #1 contender for the role of James Bond after Daniel Craig calls it a day.

I really not think Cabill will get Bod now, he's Superman to the world and I think that's too big of a role to step into anther iconic role like James Bond
