Henry Cavill IS Superman: - Part 4

This dude has as much charisma as Reeves did. Outside of RDJ we just don't see that anymore in these films.

Very curious to see that that translates into his american voice.
Chris Hemsworth was also dripping charisma.

I'm hopeful not enthusiatic.

IMO MOS will do better than SR but will not be a 500 million plus blockbuster.

Cavill has a presence which comes across in his interviews and even in still photos. Something Routh did not have.

That presence is critical for any actor playing Superman.

Is Cavill a great actor? No. I've seen the Woody Allen film you mention and he did OK but nothing special.

He was stronger in the Tudors.

I'd describe him as a generally good actor with a strong screen presence. That and being surrounded by more solid actors like Crowe, Costner, Lane and Meloni should hopefully make the difference.

Enthusiastic - no, optimistic - yes.

I'm optimistic too.
But I'm not gonna claim that he will be as good as Reeve when a frame of film is still to be shot.

But we need to see more to really judge his acting fully. That's not being down on Cavill, it's being fair to him. You shouldn't build him up as amazing only to have people tear him down.

As I've said before, I'll judge his acting based on Cold light of day, next year. Because I think that is where we will see a better range. Immortals is a bit different. You'd get as much of an idea of him as an actor as you would from Bale in Terminator: Salvation IMO.
Agree with all this.

I have identified why Henry Cavill looks more like Superman than Brandon Routh, with SCIENCE!

The proportions of Henry Cavill's face are closer to what the great Leonardo described as "the golden ratio." Part of this equation means that, on the ideal male face, the eyes should be close to the equator of the head, and the face should be almost rectangular when viewed from the front. It also has to do with the distance of the nose from the eyes, the mouth from the nose, and the jaw from the mouth. Most comic artists use the art principles set by Leonardo and other artists during the Renaissance, and thus, because Cavill is closer to Leonardo's ideal facial proportions, he looks more like Superman than Brandon Routh.

And it helps that Cavill is likely going to be allowed to look his age/older rather than younger.

golden ratio??? wow...
facially, both are great. cavill has a richer charm and shown intimidate in his eyes, while routh shows honesty and innocence.

routh shows that he's not superman, but a terminator from the future in the guise of superman.

The facial proportions are interesting and Cavill definitely has that square-jawed Superman look.

Another thing - in profile Routh's nose extends beyond the tip of his chin while Cavill's does not. This is another of the "classic" rules I guess - the nose should not extend beyond the chin.

However, the more important thing IMO is Cavill's strong, palpable presence. This along with his charm and charisma makes him a far more appropriate choice for the role than was Routh.

I personally want to wait to see Cavill in the suit to compare him to Routh in the suit, that is the only way to confirm who looks more "Supermanish", although that is still always going to be a matter of opinion, technically speaking.

Since Spidey snagged the EW cover, I'm going to assume that we'll have to wait another month for our Supes reveal, considering that's when WB typically introduces their first superhero images.

Brandon looks fine as Superman if you ask me, and a decent costume would have helped him sell it even more. However his performance in SR was lacklustre, but that could have been Singer's fault as much as Brandon's. In interviews Brandon comes over as very amiable, warm and friendly. In SR he was very wooden in some scenes, but with a different director not going the emo Supes route, he likely could have delivered a better performance.

Never thought he would be on the cover, just a tad too early.

I think Brandon was a fine looking Superman, and I didn't mind the suit as much. I think Cavill will look like a solid Superman as well. I don't think either of them are great actors, I think Cavill is better than Routh, but he's not fantastic. However, I think he'll be fine for Superman, and that is all we care about.

EW comes out every Friday. Friday July the 22nd is Comic-con, so who knows??

Totally with you on this.

All together possible

I would assume we see Cavill in the suit on some level in the next several weeks, that is, assuming they are filming in August.

well if it is next friday's issue then we'll see it earlier because of subscriptions going out earlier than it hits the news stands.

i think henry will look better just for the fact that he looks older now than routh did back in 06

I'm sure Cavill will look fine in the suit, how fine is a matter of opinion.

The photos of the new Spiderman in suit are incredible.
Suit looks stunning - maybe better than the previous Spidey suits.

Snyder has his work cut out to make Superman's suit look as good as EW's first photos of Spiderman.

maybe better than the previous Spidey suits
No.

Garfield's proportion makes the suit look better than it is. The midsection is terrible as always.
