****in' ideal!

I literally called it in my older posts, I said people would see him at comic con and flip out saying he's tiny etc because he'd be wearing normal clothing.

When you see the guy in pants and a baggy shirt, you need to ask yourself -
Does he look like Clark? Hell yes.

The best part is, every time someone claims he's not big enough etc, that just adds weight to the idea that the characters wouldn't guess Clark could be Supes lol

Nice find, Project86. He's looking more and more like Supes everyday. I sense a new batch of manips on the way.

I'm with Showtime in thinking that Superman isn't called muscle man. He doesn't get his powers from his muscle mass anyhow so he doesn't have to look supernaturally huge.

Plus these normal clothes shots tell us nothing. Alot of people swore that Chris Evans wasn't going to look buff in Captain America and he did. He looked perfectly fine and I'm sure Cavill will look the same. Like all actors you should worry about his performance, not his body.

^he said at comic con he is 25 pounds heavier now than he was in immortals

There you have it then, I'd say for Superman he'll be between 200lbs - 215lbs. On a guy that is 6'1 that will be pretty much the sort of weight/size that an NFL player like Reggie Bush would be..

He's Superman, not Muscleman. He has super powers, he doesn't have to look like Triple H in my opinion.

I agree, I don't want him to be the same size as Triple H, Batista. John Cena etc. Those guys are essentially in body builder sort of size/shape.. which I feel is too big.

The sort of size Routh was in for Dylan Dog, Welling for Smallville post season 4 or Reeve Superman III would be as big as I'd ever want Cavill to get.

It just all depends how Cavill's body looks on screen & in the material of the suit, Dean Cain wouldn't have been as big as Reeve was in Superman: The Movie, however he was more ripped & his physique worked for him well.

Agreed. I know it doesn't always look like it but Reeve was actually quite large in Superman. Granted his weight fluctuated throughout the scenes but during the earthquake scenes he was at about 230 lbs. On a 6'4 frame thats pretty big unless you're a professional athlete. I don't think Cavill is that large but with the height difference I'd say it's similar. Considering what GYMJones does in terms of training, I'd say Cavill is going to be very solid and have not just a "movie" physique but practical muscle built too. It's not the typical do 4 sets of this or that workout routine. It was originally developed for building a well rounded body that you can actually use in an athletic lifestyle.

Reeve was actually still adding & developing his body throughout Superman: The Movie. After his first reveal to the world as Superman, there is a scene in the Fortress & it had to have been one of the first scenes shot because if I recall correctly he looks noticably smaller. I'm even quite certain that I've read or heard from somewhere that it was one of few scenes they had put something to pad out his neck at the cape tuck into the suit because he hadn't bulked up his neck enough. By the end of the movie though he still wasn't really, really massive. He was in a good solid shape though. His size took a massive leap between Superman II & III.. then back down slightly for IV.

I'm thinking Henry Cavill's physique will probably be the most similar/perhaps slightly more mass, to Dean Cain's or at most Reeve's "end" physique in Superman: The Movie.

Just really depends how it looks/works on camera, I mean Dean Cain was fairly buff & ripped, however was 'probably' the smallest(?) of all the most recent Supermen.. but his physique worked for him on screen. Routh was hardly small in Superman Returns but because of the suit, tight neckline & basically his height/size it didn't work.. with the amount of flack he has got you'd have thought he was a toothpick for the movie & in truth he was about the same weight Cavill will probably be, but Cavill is slightly shorter & will probably look more buff & compact than Routh did.

The flack Routh got for how buff he got was never fair in my opinion. Criticise his lack of acting chops till the cows come home but he damn sure looked like Superman.

If other people feel like that is how bit they want Superman to be, that is all well and good, but my opinion is in the same boat as yours. I think Cavill is going to look spot on as Superman, whether the suit will be spot on, remains to be seen.

I guess we'll see if the suit makes the man or the man makes the suit.

Evans got into monster shape, I feel like Cavill is going to be fine. You'll have complains either way, which is fine, I just think there are bigger fish to fry with this movie.

I feel look wise he will be spot on for Superman from the neck up & in terms of his general physique. Getting the suit right for both Cavill's look & the film's tone is quite crucial.

I do hope Snyder/WB have paid attention to the critque that the Superman Returns suit got & plan to try to make sure things that caused really unnecessary criticism for the film before it was even released are amended this time around. I'd have thought that at least getting a good solid, classic look for Superman would be one of the easier tasks they'd have ahead of them for the film..

Couldn't agree more, I feel Cavill will have the look for Superman down to a tee provided they don't balls it up by trying something silly.

The main thing is that he gives a good performance & that the film itself is good. Really is sink or swim for the Superman character on the big screen. I fear another Superman Returns type showing & Superman may be bound to TV for another 10 years+..

Those new pics scream Superman to me.

I'm so glad he got the role. :D

nicceee I just noticed he has a brown spot in his left iris

Just watched that clip of Cavill talking about how he met Russell Crowe and Crowe gave him some words of encouragement about going into acting. Very cool. Kinda feels like fate, doesn't it? Jor-El guiding his son along to his destiny, lol.

In all seriousness, I know from personal experience how cool that must have felt. I remember back when I was in school and considering going into acting, I met the great Sidney Portier and he told me that I looked like an actor and recommended that I go into it. Ultimately, even though I tried it for a while, I found that writing was more my thing. Nevertheless, it was still something that helped motivate me for a long time.

So who knows? Maybe if it hadn't been for Crowe, we wouldn't have our new Superman. Very cool how these things work out sometimes.

When this is more physically imposing than Superman we have a problem.

Bahaha. First off, people need to stop jumping to conclusions. Cavill is wearing a slightly baggy dress shirt in the Comic-Con pics. They aren't the best thing to compare with a fully shirtless shot of Lautner where he's probably been subtly oiled up or had makeup applied to highlight his muscle definition.

Nevertheless, there is no way in hell that Taylor Lautner is more physically imposing than Cavill in the current pictures. Lautner is a narrow pretty boy man child (like Routh). Even if he is carrying less muscle, Cavill has a barrel chest and wide shoulders and strong well-defined facial features. His structure alone adds the appearance of 10 to 20 pounds of lean muscle. I think you can see it in those pictures where Cavill is standing in traditional Superman poses. (Arms crossed or chest out with hands at hips)

By the way, did Routh (who we all know got pretty big) look any more imposing fully clothed?

Cavill looks great. But the hair... they better cut and style it well when he starts shooting his scenes. I'm not digging the curly/wavy hair.

Cavill's gonna need some camera trickery and maybe some CGI to look tall. He doesn't have the natural frame/proportions of someone like Hugh Jackman, or even Routh.

By the way, did Routh (who we all know got pretty big) look any more imposing fully clothed?
He looked taller and broader in the shoulders than Cavill...because he is.

"Would you care to step outside"

More like JC, Justin, Lance, Joey, and Chris.....

;)

Some short interview clips. He looks fine. I can't watch him without smiling :yay:

same here...even without ACTING he's got Superman written all over him. it's easy to see why he beat out the competition. he's just a very humble and classy gentleman that you can fully believe has high moral fiber. i'm SUPER excited about this movie solely because of him....

....and that's not even taking into account the REST of the stellar cast!
