Cavill's height is fine, 6'1" is not small. And I don't care if Zod is taller. To me being Superman is more about the way he holds himself rather than literally how large he is.
And as for Joe Manganiello, well he's way too big. I wouldn't have wanted Superman to dwarf everyone around him.

^I'm pretty sure they're not though. I think Batman is around 6'2 while supes is 6'4. They're pretty close, but In most things i've seen Bats always seems to look up at supes just a bit.

I always liked having a superman who towered over everyone personally. Not 7 foot or anything too far out of the ordinary...but 6'4 always seemed like the perfect height. Enough to stand out..but not enough to be abnormally tall.

Superman for me is drawn that way to show how strong he is. Tom welling wasn't huge and he was quite welcomed. Supes is strong because of the sun. Not because he's a man mountain.

Tom Welling season 7, that was actually ideal. The massive chest, broad shoulders, huge biceps and abnormally raised forearms made him look better than any other superman actor ever has or will, and that's what got me thinking lately about Cavills size.
And as far as I'm concerned , he was huge, but far from bodybuilder-ish. just bigboned.

Definitely not me. I hate the idea of a bodybuilder looking actor playing Superman. Mike O'hearn comes to mind, dear Lord he looked God awful in that suit.

Tom Welling size, that I consider to be a perfect look for Superman.

Depends on what season you were watching. His size fluctuated quite a bit throughout the run of the show.

My ideal Superman build is Chris Evan's in Captain America. Big, imposing, but not bulked to a grotesque extreme.

^I stopped watching the show a while ago....but from what I understand he wasn't in the best shape that season. He didn't look obese or anything, but I don't think he was at his physical prime.

He was far from his peak in the final seasons, but even then he was still quite big...

You know what the funny part of all this is. Cavill was trying to downplay his size by wearing a loose fitting shirt. Obviously it worked. Can't wait for the first Superman pic.

Correct, he had let himself go quite a bit in the later seasons. Could hardly blame him though. Executive producer on top of 14-16 hour days of shooting, plus his own company that he had started. I guess a man can only make time for so much. The thing about Welling though is that he's big boned, and it's easy for him to look powerful. Sadly not all have that look.

I'm tired of this "too small" song and dance. Some fanboys always do this and they always look stupid after we see how big the actor really got. Plus this is a movie, not a comicbook so expecting some huge muscles like in the comics will always lead to disappointment.

I'm sure he'll look good too, I just want him to look absolutely fantastic, and that's where I tend to get a bit critical, but that's because that suit is so hard to pull off and he needs the extra muscles.

Anyway, the suit, yes, it is indeed a pain to wait for. Let's hope they haven't effed it up.

Probably doubtful, but hopefully the costume will help make him look broader in the shoulders. Evans an Hemsworth put on some serous bulk.

You'll have to wait for the sequel to see that. Because as of now, Both Hemsworth and Evans look bigger. I mean, holy God, the build on Evans is extremely impressive. That is a terrific Superman build right there.
I honestly can not say that Cavill is impressive looking. Good? Yes. Impressive? no.

The only reason I piss and moan about this is because the Superman suit is so damn hard to pull off. The actor portraying Superman HAS to be extra big in order for it to show outside the spandex. Cavill is in great shape, no one is denying that, like in any way, but to put it nicely, some extra bulk might be needed.

you guys have to remember evans and hemsworth are naturally bigger guys both are always muscular before their hero roles

Henry Cavill's just coming off shooting Immortals, his base physique for starting Superman training would easily have been as good as what Evans was going into Captain America from Fantastic Four, if not better.
