Watched the Cold Light of Day trailer yesterday. I originally heard it was going to be a straight-to-DVD release, so I didn't have high hopes for it. Is there any truth to this?
All I know is that when I watched the trailer, I thought it looked like a very kickass B-movie, the kind of movie where you can turn your brain off, crack open a beer and enjoy every second. Some commenter on YouTube said it was Abduction without Taylor Lautner. Maybe, but even that movie looked mildly entertaining, so I'm sure I'd enjoy it more with Cavill in the lead role rather than some Twilight beefcake.
I'm glad to see Henry already appearing in successful genre films (Immortals) or in the company of respected veteran actors (Cold Light of Day), because it increases the chance he can build a great career for himself outside of the Superman franchise.
I just really want him to finally prove wrong the idea that any actor who plays Superman is cursed or typecast. It's 2012, superhero movies are big business - not just "kids' entertainment" as they were in the days of George Reeves - and Henry has the acting talent and the charisma to become a major star. He seems like such a genuinely nice guy, and he had his period as the "unluckiest man in Hollywood", being rejected for Edward Cullen, James Bond, Batman and Superman, so I really think he deserves his time in the sun. I want him to succeed.
I think part of the reason Christopher Reeve didn't have much success outside of Superman is because as a classically-trained actor he didn't want to play a lot of the roles that were offered to him - to paraphrase a quote from the man himself, he wanted to act, not run around onscreen with a machine gun. Now, that's respectable, but I love to see guys run around onscreen with a machine gun. Henry has proven himself more than capable of carrying an entertaining popcorn film.
