Henry Cavill IS Superman: - Part 8

I hated when they attached the cape to his shoulders and how the suit looked so shiney. I also disliked the low swooping neckline...It doesn't need to be a t-shirt collar but there is a such thing as "too low"!

Dean Cain's cleavage must have helped the ratings.

Dean Cain is basically the live action representation of everything that went wrong with the characterization of Superman in the 90's.

He looked, walked, talked, acted, and was perfectly average, when he was supposed to be SUPER.

Maybe he would've been fine as a marvel character (nah, I'm kidding myself). But for Superman?

Nope.

Seriously? Come on, you gotta love the rodeo-clown boots!

HEY DEAN! Get the **** outta this thread!

That variant was only used for maybe a couple of episodes after the pilot. The cape doesn't normally attach that way and the logo wasn't nearly that big/low.

Say what you think about his Superman and L&C series but we can say that Dean Cain is a really nice person, he appeared at the premiere of SR, he was in Smallville, and still is a Superman fan, he never said anything bad about L&C either, and I think that we will see him again at the premiere of MOS.

It'd be neat if Brandon Routh was invited, and those two plus Henry would pose together for a Superman trifecta photo. That would be a cool thing to see.

Just invite Tom Welling, Brandon Routh, Dean Cain to get photos with Henry Cavill..... nah...I can't see that happening.

but, we did get to see two Lex Luthor's together at SR premiere. :wow:

Kevin Spacey with Michael Rosenbaum.

I thnk that WB will ask them (Welling, Routh) to stay away just so that they do not overshadow their main star (Cavill.)

Dean Cain is no worse, or better than both the forgettable Tom Welling or the too bland Blandon Routh. None were that interesting, or talented. Dean Cain at least had a certain charm the other two lacked

Electro blue/red Superman and........

The mullet.

Seriously, the image of Clark Kent with a ponytail is forever imprinted on my brain. :csad:

I guess I'm the only one who enjoyed the mullet. Some artists made it work just fine, it thought it looked cool :o

I have a toy of Clark with a ponytail, lol.

As a kid, I used to think that Electric Superman was cool, and also had a toy. I still think the design is cool, just not for Superman....Looking back, it really is odd how they "reinvented" the character to make him "cooler"... ?

For the record, I love Lois and Clark, and Dean Cain is still my favourite Superman. It's the show that got me into Superman in the first place

But the vast majority seem to have the same complaints, and I get bored of questioning them, cause they're not going to change their minds.

Obviously i'm in the minority that don't see what everyone's talking about. I think his Superman was very different from his Clark. I don't think he played them the same at all. I don't think he was a bad Superman or that he looked uncomfortable in costume... it's just not something I ever noticed in the whole time I was a fan of the show.

It's only since talking about it on the internet that i've even found out that this is what people think.

Really? That's a first. I've never head anyone say that Cain is their favorite Superman, but I'm glad he was your gateway to the character. I really can't comment on the Clark / Supes portrayal because I was much too young to care about the show back then, but now that I can get past the costume and all that, I will probably give it a watch.

Dean Cain definitely isn't my favorite Superman (I've never seen my ideal Superman in live-action), but he IS my favorite Clark, mainly for NOT being a caricature or angsty reluctant hero.

I never really watched the show, but I definitely dont hate Cain either. Just the show, the suit-design and that the producers were willing to ridicule the character with that suit-design. That crap didnt even look cool in the 90s.

I like Lois and Clark's other characters more than it's Superman. Lois, Perry, Jimmy, Cat, and Lex are why I enjoy it.

I guess it's just because when I watch, I couldn't give a hoot about the silly costumes or the funny poses... those are just part of the 'comedic' side of the show. It was angled to be a rom/com, so I don't even notice it anymore.

But it's the message behind all that colourful dressing. There are so many moments of exploration into what being this man would actually be like. So many times where he says something or does something that makes me think 'THAT is what Superman is about'.

When I watch Dean Cain, I believe he IS Clark Kent/Superman. I also completely believe he is in love with Lois Lane. He has me convinced 100%.

Isn't that what being a good actor is?

The fact that his Superman portrayal isn't as drastically different as Reeve's proves nothing of his acting skill. That's how he was ASKED to play it... The point is, the audience is suppose to see that Clark is acting whenever he puts on the suit. That's how the show portrayed Superman, as very much the disguise. So we see the over the top macho poses, we see Clark's attempt at standing taller, putting on more confidence etc. People complain it makes him seem like a characature of a person.... but that's kind of the point... your supposed to see Superman as something unreal, your not supposed to look at him and think for a second he could be a normal person.

Now, I don't want MOS to be the same. I don't want Cavill to take a leaf out of Dean Cain's book or anything.

I feel Dean Cain played THAT interpretation perfectly, and that Cavill will play a very different interpretation and hopefully do it very well too.

Because I think that a Superman film should have a more complicated look at who he is (Superman/Clark/), because I don't think it is just as simple as one is a disguise over the other like so many interpretations try and do. Lois and Clark made Superman a disguise, almost to the point where he became ridiculous. STM made Clark a disguise, beyond the point where he was ridiculous.

This time, I hope they show that both personas have elements of disguise and reality in there.

I've gotten so used to seeing him in Superman shape, it's kinda weird seeing him out of shape lol.
