Henry Cavill IS Superman: - Part 8

Turning Superman into a campy romantic comedy was weak. Undoubtedly you could draw in new fans of that type of entertainment if you do the same with any character, even Batman, but that doesn't mean it's doing justice to the character at all. It was a misstep.

Check out "Look Up in the Sky: The Amazing Story of Superman." The marriage in the comics was the direct result of DC wanting to draw in women readers. It led to a huge split at DC on the issue.

Only recently did DC come forth and admit that it was a mistake. Not surprisingly the marriage is gone in New52.

I don't think you can say they had no idea what they were doing fot all those they were just trying out things to make the character a little different. I love the marriage between Lois & Clark and at the time it was fresh and seemed the right way to go that's why they did it, it took something stale and took it to the next stage that it needed to be at.

And on Lois & Clark the TV series it was for a while a hit and the reason some people became Superman fans so you can't say it was all wrong.

Agreed; and I think it's a bit presumptuous to say that the decision to marry off Lois and Clark was a detriment to the character. Many would argue that it added a new and great layer to the character, and the evolution of their relationship drew in both female and MALE fans to it.

I remember reading to this day on how a lot of fans, both male and female alike were upset with the decision to split them up after nearly 2 decades of them having been happily married.

Contrary to what some people think, a happy marriage wouldn't be bad for some heroes. Course Rockstar wouldn't know how to view a female character correctly even if flew right in front of him.

But you can't say it was a mistake to do it just because it split opinion. Tbh maybe doing a romantic comedy was the best way to go at the time as we'd already had a few serious Superman shows. End of the day its fact that Lois & Clark and the marriage were successful for a period, like everything changes come and go to freshen up the stories whether you like something or not you can't say it wasn't a success cause it was.

*Nods in perfect unison response.:yay:

Honestly, there are times where I think that the only reason why DC separated Superman and Lois from each other was because of them believing that having a single Superman would make him more relevant and available to pair up with other female characters at their own pleasure without making him look bad.

Like some had said about Marvel's decision to split up MJ and Peter, having separated Superman and Lois the way that DC did felt like a slap/spit to the face of the numerous fans that had come to enjoy and respect the relationship for what it brought to the story and the characters.

Fair enough.

It can be looked upon with the same perspective as the Adam West Batman series. It may have been off the mark for the character, but it did give the character some exposure, albeit not necessarily in the best way.

And we didn't really have any serious Superman shows prior. We had George Reeves' AoS (a campy kids show) and Superboy, which was also quite silly.

The only properties live action properties to handle Superman with some level of dignity were the two Donner films (the first moreso than the second), and eventually Superman Returns in 2006.

Man of Steel would only be the fourth time they tried to do a serious Superman interpretation, third if you count the Donner films as one single project shot together.

I agree, I loved the marriage personally.

The thing what's bothering me about what Rockstar is saying is that he think just cause he didn't like something it was weak and a failure well any one can have their own opinion but its fact that they weren't failures.

Agreed. I mean it's one thing to have a different opinion on something, but entirely another to say that your opinion is shared by all.

Personally, I think that his relationship with Lois helps humanize him (something that I sorely miss from his new 52 interpretation). It also shows that not every hero is destined to end up alone and miserable like Batman and Spiderman.

Like they say, the courtship to marriage is one thing, but marriage itself is a journey on its own.

Totally agree, I hope it comes back someday

It made more sense for DC to "break up" the marriage of Lois and Clark as opposed to Marvel's decision to end the marriage of Peter and Mary Jane because of the time shift.

so do I... bc on the big screen this has too much potential

I have my doubts that the marriage will happen on the big screen.

I'm sure Lois will have some type of relationship with Superman, but so far we don't even know if Lois will have any form of interaction with Clark in MoS.

Plus, if we're building towards a marriage.. there would need to be a heavy relationship focus (like the Spider-Man films) and that would be a misstep. Superman has been burdened with that approach for several years.

hehe cool

I really hope if we get a trilogy that by the 3rd movie Superman and Lois are a couple

Spot on there!! Like a cheeky wink or smile when carrying a child to safety!! or a whisper in the ear 'I'm quite safe..' then when angry and facing off to the bad guy, like a tilt of the head as he turns around, bullets flying off him with determination in his eyes! But def superman should be an act as well!! Should be light hearted, but def a sense of alien.. Or foreign? Not so much american but modest eastern european? Anyways I am going off on one now

Are you people on about the manip of Amy Adams and Cavill?

It clearly looks like Cavill but its obvious he's been pasted over Rouths face or something

You make us sound so negative. :o

I think it's the hair line. Cavill's is more "mature."
