Henry Cavill IS Superman: - Part 8

Which are the big WB movies coming out this year besides Batman of course? I wouldn't be surprised if it were on TDKR.
Wrath Of The titans in March
Dark Shadows in May
Gangster Squad in October

TDKR seems the likely choice

The face in this pic reminded me of Cavill on the oil rig in those set pics.

Glad to see at least some of the Superman-curse has been lifted with Cavill being able to be associated with other roles than that of Superman. He was somewhat established before MOS and I imagine he'll be a regular actor post MOS.

Christopher Reeve went on to do a variety of film and stage work after the Superman movies. I would not say that he was particularly typecast.

Once he has a few hits outside of the suit post-Man of Steel, then we can say any "Superman curse" (which is silly, to begin with) has been lifted. Until then, no it hasn't been.

Reeve felt he was, he took the script for 'Street Smart' around town and no-one would produce it, as they felt he was typecast as Superman. That was the reason he agreed to do SMIV with Cannon, as it was part of the deal that they would make Street Smart, which is a pretty good movie.

Well lets see what happens after MOS with Cavill, he is still an unknown when placed against the top Hollywood stars of today. The fact is that Superman is a very iconic figure, he has his own look, and is extremely popular not only to fans, but to the world as-well.

People can say what they want about Reeve, but the fact is he was indeed typecast by the public after Superman, and the proof still shows to this day, no one looks at him as anything else but Superman.

Same with Adam West (the original Batman), he had a horrible life being typecast after Batman ended for him in 1968, it was so bad the man had to stoop down to doing circus shows dressed in his Batman suit getting shot out of a canon, giving speeches in his Batman suit, etc.

Same with George Reeves, he could never escape that stigma of being Superman, he went the same route Adam West did (much further actually).

On the other hand, mostly all of the Batman actors after Adam West were not typecast (Hollywood film actors), and the reason being is that Batman outside the mask does not need that certain look that Superman does, Batman is Batman because of the "Mask" he puts on, outside the mask it does not matter with him. Superman is a totally different beast when it comes to that "Perfect" look.

We shall see with Cavill, but chances are, the more & more money MOS makes, the further and further the distance will be for Hollywood to make him, & for the public to look at him as anything other then Superman.

And to be far, he was only doing Superman because he was Typecast.

Here's a little tid bit of knowledge I dug up on Reeves being typecast, in his own words.

"In the documentary "Look Up in the Sky The Amazing Story Of Superman", Jack Larson told how when he first met Reeves; he told him that he enjoyed his performance in "So Proudly We hail" According to Larson, Reeves said that if Mark Sandrich had not died, he would not be there in "this monkey suit". Larson said it was the only time he heard Reeves say anything negative about being Superman. In between the first and second seasons of Superman, Reeves got sporadic acting assignments in one-shot TV anthology programs and in two feature films, Forever Female (1953) and Fritz Lang's "The Blue Gardenia" (1953). But by the time the series was airing nationwide, Reeves found himself so associated with Superman and Clark Kent that it was difficult for him to find other roles"

Also, the 1 hour A&E Biography on George Reeves life made it very clear how depressed George was doing Superman, not being able to find other rolls as Hollywood producers would not except him as anything other then Superman.

Sounds like Typecasting to me.

That is far worse than "typecast". Stallone, Willis, Arnold ect... were typecast, they had almost all action roles. Did however get different roles within that type, and enough to make great careers.

Reeves was rolecast, where he only got one role. Way worse.

I don't think typecasting is quite the same as it was back then.

On the subject of typecasting I actually find it frustrating actors moan about been typecast as Superman. They could have been nobodies and never played a significant role in their lives. Its an honour and a privelege to play the Man of Steel and actors should think themself lucky to be associated with the part.

Who moaned about it? I don't recall ever reading anything from Routh/Welling/Cain/etc criticising the role they had.

Kirk Alyn did.

George Reeves definitely did

Chris Reeve is well known for not wanting to be typecast

As was Tom Welling and if you read Superman in Hollywood you'll know Cain had his grievances with the role at one time aswell.

Of course Brandon Routh as far as I know has never uttered a bad word about the Character.

Cain's struggles in Hollywood had more to do with the fact that he is a horrible actor than anything Superman-related.

Oh come on, Dean Cain's not that bad. At least he's better than say Billy Zane. :p

The weird thing is, if I was just basing it on Lois and Clark, I'd say he was a great actor. I loved his portrayal.

It's everything else he's done that is just kind of awful :p

He's a true thespian that he is...
