In Brightest day.. The Official Hal Jordan Thread

My dream pick for this is still Jake Gyllenhaal. He did do Prince of Persia after all, maybe he's down for a franchise like this.

Hammer would be interesting but he's starred in so many flops that I doubt the studio would give him the chance. And Marsden might been as too old. And Joel McHale, simply being in contention is an honor for him.

Jake Gyllenhaal would be the perfect choice for the studio. But I doubt be would take the role considering the mess of the other starring his pal Ryan Reynolds.

They should choose some rising star. Some guy in his late 20's or early 30's.

Jake Gyllenhaal as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern

I'd prefer Marsden over Gyllenhaal. For some reason I can never buy Gyllenhaal as a leading man unless he's playing weirdos, lol.

But is Marsden really a leading man? The only times I can remember him playing a lead in anything were in some awful Catherine Heigl movie and HOP.

If they are looking for someone as charming as Pratt they need to get Andy samberg. He's the only one with a chance of making Hal's *****iness into something bareable. Plus he's the perfect age to star opposite Trevante

He's not my top pick or anything, but he has leading man qualities, imo. I enjoy him when he's playing a spoof of a leading man at least, like in Enchanted or even The D-Train. And we also know he can do "serious regular guy" just fine. If you find the right guy for John, I could imagine him being an entertaining half of a leading duo. That kind of thing just doesn't work for Gyllenhaal, imo.

I think my issue with Marsden is that casting him wouldn't excite anybody. I feel like the announcement would be met with an overwhelming, "Eh, he'll be okay, I guess."

I feel like casting Gyllenhaal would make a big splash though. And more importantly, I feel like he'd bring something extra to the role that Marsden just doesn't have.

Pratt is a great example of how casting like this can work. I like this pick :)

Yeah... and the Green Lantern movie is a great example of how casting like that can be a disaster. Now, to be fair, Ryan Reynolds can play it straight and actually tried to as Hal Jordan, but it can't be denied that casting an actor mostly known for comedy and giving the film an overall comedic tone backfired completely. There's nothing wrong with humor in these films (you NEED it; otherwise you end up with BvS), but going too far into the realm of silliness will result in another GL movie bombing.

I will forever believe they should go with an older more seasoned Hal and cast Nathan Fillion.

If they want to bring in fresh (young) blood, there's lots of newer lanterns to do that with. Follow John or Kyle or Guy or Simon or Jessica getting a ring, and Hal being their Obi-Wan.

That allows a great possibility to have Sinesto come in as a bad guy and the rookie find out he used to be Hals sector partner/mentor.

Though personally I still just love the idea of an older Hal (Fillion) and a slightly younger John in a "Lethal Weapon in Space" style movie.

Well yeah, of course casting Gyllenhaal would make a bigger splash - he's a bigger name. Still doesn't make him right for the part though, imo.

I just draw the line at Armie. I don't think he's right for Hal. His "blandly attractive and can be played for laughs" thing applies much better to Shazam than this. Hal should be a bit more rough around the edges IMO.

I just straight-up don't like Armie, so I'll agree with Sawyer there.

Hal should be someone magnetic that the audience is instantly attracted to, both in terms of personality and physical appearance. I'm not sure about Armie either, Chris Pine's Steve Trevor was the Hal we should've gotten.

If only Pine wasn't cast as Steve Trevor he would have been perfect as Hal Jordan but since he can't play Hal then yeah I would go with Jake Gyllenhaal as Hal Jordan

Joel Edgerton could be a good choice.

Joel is amazingly talented... But I just don't see it in the least.

Edgerton would've been a fine Aquaman, but yeah he does not fit Hal Jordan at all.

Well, I think Edgerton fits Jordan better than John Krasinski for instance. I never understood why he is such a fan favorite.

I don't agree at all. From what I've seen, Edgerton has never shown a knack for humor which is a big part of Hal's personality

Joel is a great actor but he's much more known as someone you tap to play somber, dramatic roles. Has he ever done something considered a big budget tent pole type film other than his small part in the Star Wars prequels?
