In Brightest day.. The Official Hal Jordan Thread

Cruise is my pick, and makes the most sense the more I think about. The guy is a great actor in addition to having charm, charisma, gravitas , and is a household bankable name. The former Top Gun as Hal Jordan is an inspired idea .

You get Cruise in there, already you've intrigued the GA and get people interested in a less well known property. Surround him with younger talent and have him bring on some solid writers and you could really have a great film.

Cruise's involvement would attract a solid director, probably Doug Liman, Christopher McQuarrie, James Mangold, or Joseph Kosinski.

McQuarrie directing and rewriting Goyer's script would be a really good idea, just don't know if he would jump on GLC while finishing MI6. From what I understand, Cruise has input on action sequences but McQuarrie has said that Cruise shields him from studio interference and lets him write the script.

Yeah. WB would definitely be out of their comfort zone without having the ability to meddle and mandate in the project. I would definitely have more confidence in Mcquarrie and solid director like those you've mentioned than another shoehorned, characters filled, script and a director who's a WB yes man.

I'm personally shocked they didn't even consider Channing. I thought he would be the go to guy for this. A Star, likeable, handsome, wide range of popularity, can play arrogant and dopey.

James Marsden is interesting though.

Gambit. Also, he's not much of an actor.

I wouldn't trust that list by the way, though I'd also be cool with Marsden if it were true.

I would be very intrigued with Cruise as Hal. Jake Gyllenhaal would just be too good to be true. Cooper why not. Hammer ditto. But, if no Cruise or Gyllenhaal, my favorite is James Mardsen. The guy could do Hal in his sleep.

Agreed with all of this

More I think about it , the more I like Cruise for this. He would get this movie fasttracked

Imagine Kosinski and Cruise on this. Hell yeah

Of the rumored names, I like Jake the best, followed by Marsden, Cruise and Hammer. McHale I like for Guy and I think it's possible that could be WB's line of thinking as well. I'm not even ranking Reynolds because I think someone got some misinformation there. I can't seriously believe WB is considering him again after the mess that was the last GL film.

Another one of Umberto's clickbait nonsense. Bogus list. Moving on.

Haha, Marsden was actually my pick for Hal in 2010. Westworld might have given him the extra boost to be a serious contender.

You can't just dismiss it, man

This was reported on The Wrap. The Wrap were the ones that actually broke the news that Leto was playing Joker

Don't really believe the list, but Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds have always been my top choices for Hal. Obviously neither will happen. Cooper is with Marvel and Ryan already played Hal in a failed movie. I wouldn't be surprised if WB "wished" they could get them, seeing as both are big stars riding momentum highs but it's just not gonna happen.

Of the rest of the list, I'll take Jake Gyllenhaal, he's the best actor of the 3 remaining BY FAR and he can pull off Hal. Joel McHale is an interesting choice but as others have said, he fits the character of Guy alot better. Hammer is meh, he's an OK actor but not someone I would get excited for if he landed the role. Marsden is a high end B movie talent IMO, he has the look for the character but I just don't think he's a very good actor to be honest.

Cooper did audition for the Hal Jordan role back then. I think Hammer is close to sign and maybe someone leaked the list to scare his agents and lower their request

I think people don't realize that the article states none of the actors have been approached yet. It's just a shortlist of actors that WB is considering speaking with

I think the list is real

One thing the list didn't mention is if Reynolds has any desire to play GL again. There might be people at WB who want him back, but the interviews that I've read over the last few years suggest that he hated his experience on GL '11. He said he didn't even get to see what he looked like in costume until the first trailer came out.

I can only hope WB learned their lesson about adapting one of the most enduring comic books in history. This undertaking shouldn't be hard, but they'll need to treat their new actors with respect.

I think the list is real too. In the end, none them may end up with the part, but that doesn't mean those names haven't been thrown around by WB or that they aren't considering approaching them.

I like all the choices. Marsden and Gyllenhaal are my favorites, though.

Marsden because I feel he needs something to get back on track and Gyllenhaal because it'd be criminal if he'd go down as the guy who was almost Spider-Man, Batman and Green Lantern and I want him to have something aside from being Prince of Persia. :funny:

As much as I enjoy Cruise, it'd just be him playing himself mainly. Armie's quite young which I think is the opposite for what they want, unless we'd have an older Jon and a younger Hal..

It'd be a cool dynamic of young Hal Jordan teaching an older John Stewart

I mean, he's got Brokeback Mountain, Zodiac, Enemy, Prisoners and Nightcrawler, but yeah, I get what you're saying. I wish he'd played Harry in the Spider-Man movies. After 1, Franco was terribly disengaged.

If they go younger with Hal, how about Boyd Holbrook? Yeah I know he's in Logan but that will probably be the only X-Men related film he does and he's a bad guy there so it's not like the two characters will be very similar. He's definitely an up-and-comer whose career could really blow up if that Predator movie is good.

A lot of people have suggested Dan Stevens for the role (myself included) but Holbrook could potentially be just as good and has a very similar look (they even played brothers in A Walk Among the Tombstones).

Was thinking the same... just because Stewart would be a newcomer compared to Jordan, it doesn't necessarily mean that he has to be younger. GLC doesn't work like your regular job, anyway... besides, I always assumed that Stewart is older than Jordan.

In the old comics John was certainly younger than Hal. Not by that much but still younger. Currently Hal, John and Guy are all around the same age while Kyle, Simon and Jessica are younger.

Yeah? Could be the "JL: Animated Series" in my mind then, since Stewart seemed like he was at least in his mid-thirties to me there or it's the fact that his more stoic and serious character made that impression on me.
