The Dark Knight Rises Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake

I was right about calling it that one of the two possible roles of his would be a cop under Gordon.

I love that I'm right. This is a great idea. My money is that he's a good idealistic cop. The fact that he's young and he's starting out wanting to do some good is a good angle. Especially if Gordon brings him in. He could either start out as a regular cop or apart of the task force to track Batman or be promoted because Gordon sees something in him.

If they go for the idealistic cop angle, he can evolve throughout the film and have a cool little arc. Gordon will either admire him for his idealistic ways or warn him (as I expect Gordon is now more careful about hiring cops, as he was more idealistic in TDK, this could have dwindled in this film) but Levitt is what Gordon sees what's good about Gotham. Even if he's naive and young and idealistic, there's hope, and this could bring Gordon around and would fit into his arc.

If he's going to be on the task force, he's assigened, eager and ready to hunt Batman with the rest. Gordon warns him of the dangers of being a cop in Gotham. Then gradually, Levitt comes around to believing in Batman and doing the right thing in the end and has to make a tough decision, but the right one. I see this resembling Fox at the end of TDK in a way.

He'll mostly share the screen with Gordon and have some great interactions with him. I love this inclusion because it means some great cop dialogue.

To me it's more interesting than him being a corrupt. It seems like a logical way to go given the end of TDK and where the themes left off with Gotham and its people and how Batman will be on the run.

This is getting me more excited. Levitt fits this role like a glove.

Good call Doc Jones :)

Though what's with the name Blake though? I read that first and ever since I can't get rid of the idea that Cat-man is involved somehow. It's a BATMAN movie featuring Selina Kyle after all :| What? I can't help it. John, Thomas, Edward, they all be the same Blake when the flying rodent's involved! Or related, or something.

John Blake is the blandest name I have ever heard

*Apologies to potential John Blake's reading this.

Yeah, it should've been more realistic... like Oswald Cobblepot or Hugo Strange. Definitely more up Nolan's alley. :cwink:

FUN FACT: Did you know that "Rachel Dawes" was originally named "Rachel Dawson", but they changed it because Katie Holmes was cast in the role, and they didn't want her name related to Dawson's Creek? Literally, they probably pulled "Dawes" right out of their asses within 5 seconds. "Dawson, Dawson... Ah hell, let's make it Dawes." :woot:

So, basically I was right saying this is like Mike Engel all over again.

Why is it so hard to believe he's playing some made up stock character in this film? I said this months ago.

Man in hindsight the Mike Engel debacle is hilarious

Back then it was infuriating. :cmad: And the funny thing was I really wanted some of the BS to be true.

Thanks man. I can actually see Levitt and Oldman have some great chemistry while interacting.

When I saw those two names I had to rack my brains to try and remember if I saw them in anything. But nope, Nolan likes to make up characters.

John Blake - Blake Lively

H...has WB taken up the shared universe idea once more?

I might be alone here, but I am kind of tired of the whole Gotham Police Department thing. I know they have to play a role, but there was way too much of it in TDK. Way too much Gordon, various Gotham police officers, crooked cops, politicians, judges, and various other Gotham City denizens getting screen time. It almost got to the point of feeling more like a police drama than a superhero flick. We already got Gordon almost on equal status as Batman and now there is another major actor playing a cop. The movie will be great, but I was hoping they would go back to a more Batman Begins feel.

I wholeheartedly disagree. It's one of the aspects I love about these films.

Same here. I loved how much screen time Gordon had. He had an importance to the overall plot and played a huge part in the fates of everyone. He's one of my favorites, so I didn't mind seeing him have a lot of screentime.

I just didn't like the fact that Batman had his thunder stolen from him in his own movie. The most memorable scenes in the movie often didn't involve Batman or if they did, he blended in the backround. This differed from Batman Begins, where Batman was the focus. Not Gordon, Scarecrow, Ras, Rachel, Falconi, or Gotham City in general.

It worked in TDK (which was great), but I hope they don't go a similar route for the sequel. The story required it. Hopefully they don't shoehorn in the GPD into a plot that should be Batman centric. You got to have Gordon but he shouldn't have the biggest holy s--t moment or the best scenes.

JGL is going to be on Conan tomorrow. Let's see if he'll say something.

If it comes up at all, I'm sure all we'll get is "I can't say anything" and "I'm really excited to work with Nolan again."

Wait wait wait..... are Blake Lively and Joseph Gordon Levitt the same person?

I am fine with it espelly cause they will be hunting him more then working with him.

As long as there is no crappy writing like during the armor car chase. I wanted to kill that cop talking to Gordan.

Conan is taping at the Warner Bros. studios in LA. There is probably a WB ninja breathing down his neck for the duration of the interview. :woot:
